Can I just post it here?

EDIT: Lunch already posted one. But mine's a different version (I was about to send you the same though).
Out of curiousity, does anyone listen to Elvis Presley? I used to not like his style (a little too old-fashioned) but it's growing on me.
I don't listen to Elvis as regularly as I listen to say...Bob Dylan or The Doors, but I really like his music. My grandpa gave me his Cd "40" and it's simply amazing. He really was great and deserves more recognition.

I will always remember two quotes about Elvis Presley, one by Bob Dylan and one by John Lennon (don't remember who said which quote though)

"Hearing Elvis for the first time was like breaking out of prison"

"Before Elvis there was nothing"

You can post it, I'd always like to hear different versions.

edit: and thank you lunch. :)

I think we should do the cover band thing, except we need to decide what to do and who plays what.

I think Thickasabrick, RocknotRoll, myself and MAYBE ATM play guitar.

I think out of the regulars I know, Rockandroll and Lunch play drums.

Badmoon plays the banjo.

JPJ plays the bass, but I'm not sure of who else.

ATM 05-30-2005 04:02 PM

I'd be down. What song would we do?

More recognition?!? He's probably the most popular musician in the world.

lunch998 05-30-2005 04:04 PM

From what I know, Rockandroll is much better at drums than me, and also I can't record anything yet, so get him to do it.

ATM 05-30-2005 04:05 PM

On second thought, my recording capabilities suck, so I can't really add anything.

I might be joining a jam band. :)

Lunch, you should drive up to my area and jam one day.

I'm much better at guitar than I am at banjo; I haven't even touched my banjo for a while. I wouldn't mind adding a few banjo rolls and chords though.

Plus, I know we can knock a few of them out, because they lack recording software or whatever.

We should have a chat over this.

Do you have a microphone?

You come down here, I'm the one with the drum set. :p

That's the advantage to playing drums: you can always make people jam at your house.

magicbus 05-30-2005 04:41 PM

Where do you guys all live? Because if I road trip this summer, I'll stop by to jam. Seriously.

Moon, do you have any stuff by that band on Festival Express, Mashaka or something? The one song they play is pretty cool, with the flute at the end.

I also really like the Dead's stuff, and the Flying Burrito Brothers song.

Dude, I have been looking for The Band's cover of "Slipin' and a slidin'" since I saw that movie (months ago).

I can't give you anything off of that other than assorted live versions of "Friend of the Devil" and its recorded version aswell as the recorded version of "Don't Ease Me In".

sorry :(

It'd be cool to cover "Cumberland Blues" or "Friend of the Devil" for that contest. We could work that out, but I'm sure you have your own thoughts or song choices.

Broken Arrow 05-30-2005 05:09 PM

/also doesnt have a way of recording

ATM 05-30-2005 05:12 PM

You guys aren't going to believe this.

I sit down for dinner, and my dad tells us that a group of musicians are staying with my grandparents soon, and he isn't too thrilled about it. He said that 2 of the members in the group are lesbian, and he doesn't want my grandparents to get freaked out. My dad said he told my grandparents that, and they were perfectly cool with it (they are really open-minded people).

I asked what band it was, and my dad said Calexico!

ATM 05-30-2005 05:13 PM
Do you have a microphone?
Yea, I've got a really cheap mic.

And Lunch, that might work out. When would be a good day to jam?

Broken Arrow 05-30-2005 05:15 PM

Moon has probably just died with Jelousy.

ATM 05-30-2005 05:16 PM

I might actually try and go up at the same time, since I was planning on going there anyway. :D

Badmoon 05-30-2005 05:18 PM

Go up there, tell them that Convict Pool is a perfect EP. And download Audacity. If you have a microphone, you have enough.

thickasabrick 05-30-2005 05:19 PM
More recognition?!? He's probably the most popular musician in the world.
I mean by teens who listen to rock. When talking about best/favourite/most influencial artists they always name The Beatles and The Stones and Dylan and all those guys, but seldom do you actually hear someone name Elvis...despite the fact he practically started it all.

edit- I also don't have any way to record.

ATM 05-30-2005 05:22 PM
Go up there, tell them that Convict Pool is a perfect EP. And download Audacity. If you have a microphone, you have enough.
I've already got Audacity.

If I can't get up there, I'll call the house and tell them over the phone.

Badmoon 05-30-2005 05:24 PM

ATTENTION:

If you have a microphone, download Audacity. Then you will most likely be able to record music.

God, I hope someone makes a thread that explains all the recording techniques for this upcoming contest.
Farmhouse

And I wouldn't say the chorus to "Farmhouse" sounds like "No Woman No Cry". The tempos seem completely different, but I can see how one would think they're similar; with the background vocals and such.

I just bought...

Jerry Garcia - Reflections
Johnny Cash - American Recordings
Hell yeas, Badmoon. My dad has every one of those American Recordings albums, they're awesome.

Kind of ironic you play banjo and guitar, and Garica played guitar, and banjo when he joined "Old and In the Way" and you got Jerry as your avatar.
Coincidence?

Badmoon 05-30-2005 06:56 PM

I was playing both before I ever got into the Grateful Dead. So yes. :)
Kind of ironic you play banjo and guitar, and Garica played guitar, and banjo when he joined "Old and In the Way"
He played banjo before he joined Old & In the Way, of course.

Big coincidence.

Badmoon hates Jerry Garcia and all of his side projects.

wanton 05-30-2005 07:01 PM

Were the Grateful Dead still known as the Warlocks in 1966? Because I have a concert from then and it's labeled as Grateful Dead.

Well, they changed their name to the Grateful Dead as of 1965; the same year they formed.

jpj 05-30-2005 07:28 PM

It would be awesome to do a song with you guys, but I don't have recording capabilities.

I understand most recording techniques, but havent really dealt with any others but my own.

So whats going on for this cover contest? Ill defintaly do it, since all i do is cover songs, have a guitar, drums and mic. But in all honestly...Ill do a grateful dead song, but would prefer not too.
