Has Abbey Road and So Far and is happy for you.

lunch998 08-28-2004 09:53 PM
Just got the very best of bob marley and the wailers, Grateful dead Europe '72, Abbey Road, and CSNY "so far". Does it piss any one else off that you can no longer find anything but best of's for most of these older bands. Honestly, Although they're better than nothing honestly I don't want any more god **** greatest hit's I want the album's!
Yea it pisses me off too. It's a thing about me that I like having the actual album, and listen to it the way it was ment to be. Not same collection that someone else said were that groups best songs. By the way, what CSNY CD would you recommend I get first?

Woodstock 08-28-2004 09:57 PM

So Far, then Deja Vu and then CSN s/t.

RockAndRoll 08-28-2004 10:00 PM

Although I have yet to listen to So far (due to listening to the other cd's I bought) it looks very good.

Exactly, not to mention all the good songs you miss out on. For example I had never even heard of tell all the people until I bought the soft parade, now it's one of my favourite doors songs. This happens all the time.

Woodstock 08-28-2004 10:05 PM

"Hidden gems" is what I call 'em

Spectrum 08-28-2004 10:06 PM
Does anyone here like Emerson, Lake, and Palmer?

Jimi Hendrix was rumoured to join them for a new band called H.E.L.P. but he died before anything was started.
Yes. They were pioneers in the arranging of Classical Music to the Rock genre. Great band.

I am a lover of pretty much all classic rock. I think it is absolutely great music, and defined an era and all music to follow in the "rock" genre. Why it is underappreciated is beyonf me, but the fact that it is seeming to be popular with the youth of today is a sign of great things to come in my opinion. I particularly enjoy:

The Beatles
The Eagles
The Who
The Rolling Stones
All Clapton projects: The Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes, Eric Clapton (solo career).
The Moody Blues
Boston
Aerosmith
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer
The Grateful Dead
Led Zepplin
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
CSN
Neil Young
Cat Stevens
Jimi Hendrix

Far too many more than I can remember at this time.

Yea I know exactly what you mean. The Who have so many "best of" albums that I really dont recommend any other them. You guranteed to miss out on some great songs i.e. Amazing Journey. Original Albums>Best ofs.

I'm sorry, please don't hurt me. I already ahd set in mind which cd's I wanted before I went (Ofcourse I had to settle otherwise, but close enough) Now I have a job though so next time I will have more money and will! Canned heat was quite impressive at woodstock I must say.

Seafroggys 08-28-2004 11:28 PM

Canned Heat played at the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival over the Independence weekend. I didn't see them, but they played their entire Woodstock gig.

Badmoon 08-28-2004 11:30 PM

Santana were great on the Woodstock video too. Especially the drummer.

Woodstock 08-28-2004 11:32 PM

Yeah, the version of Soul Sacrifice is amazing.

RockAndRoll 08-28-2004 11:39 PM

definitely, Country joe macdonald, and jocker cocker are another two that stand out in my mind.

Steely Dan!

Steely Dan is my favorite classical rock band now. I've been making a collection of their songs, getting such gems as 'Throw back the Little Ones' and "King of the World"

Looking for Steely Dan gems that I haven't heard of yet...most of their albums I haven't bought

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-29-2004 03:03 AM

Lets talk about Jimmy page's solo career and how much it sucked.......I bought Outrider a week ago and I am very disipointed at this attempt at a solo album....... Do not get Jimmy page solo albums......youve been warned.

I don't know. Where have you been? I've been in the Southern Maine area, mostly.

How could I forget? More that I like:
Bob Dylan
Carlos Santana
Don Henley
Don McLean
Creednece Clearwater Revival
former Beatles members solo' efforts, especially Paul McCartney with Wings and John Lennon (until he was tragically killed).
Steely Dan
The Allman Brothers

Interesting point of fact relating to Dylan... Dylan's classic "All Along the Watchtower" has been covered by anyone who can play guitar, notably DMB, SRV, myself, and Jimi Hendrix. When Dylan heard the Hendrix version he said that was how it was "meant to be played", but that he wasn't good enough to play it that way.

And Dylan was hendrix's favourite artist.

Badmoon 08-29-2004 10:43 AM

Who feels like playing or doing another list game? The album one failed, but this one can just be personal opinion, rather than adding them up.

RockAndRoll 08-29-2004 10:56 AM

Sure, I'll do it.

thelizardkingcc 08-29-2004 11:56 AM

can ya hear me major tom?

Against Miik! 08-29-2004 12:00 PM

A night full of joys and dissapointments. The night started off pretty bad. They are touring with Los Lonely Boys, who I think are great. I would go to a concert just to see them. But for some reason, they were unable to play. So they got some other crappy warm up band called the Bottle Rockets. So finally, The Allman Brothers came on. They started off with Stateboro Blues and One Way Out. I thought it was going great. Then, the next 5 or so songs were all newer. Now don't get me wrong, I thought the playing was great, everything sounded so beautiful, and all that, but I was there to hear the classics. The second half of the concert started off with Midnight Rider, so I thought we were back on track, but they just played some more newer songs. The encore was Melissa. I was slighty pissed that they didn't play Whipping Post, Jessica, Hot Lanta, or Elizabeth Reed, but I understood that they weren't just playing for me. Overall, it was an incredible experience and one of the best concerts I have ever attended, but I can only think that it could have been sooo much better.

themightyquinn23 08-29-2004 12:02 PM

Where was it? Hopefully not at Blossom, it was pouring yesterday.

Against Miik! 08-29-2004 12:03 PM
