No, but nor is it wrong to not care about looking good. :)
Personally, I think you give off a better impression coming in confident and not dressed to the nines in an interview. The clothing gives a false sense of confidence. If I saw a guy come in dressed in rags and totally confident, I'd probably give him the job over someone else because it takes that much more confidence to do that. And formality doesn't serve any purpose except to give high-end clthing retailers a job imo. Being comfortable is key to anything.
So now you're saying that I can't wear a suit because I like how I look in one? I don't see what's so ugly/uncomfortable about them, personally. Then again I am apparently the opposite of everyone on MX :-\ |
It's tough being in the minority :p
Anyways: he said that it's not a crime what you think. He just says it's not a crime to not care how one looks. |

Nope. I'm saying that I don't care what you wear as long as it makes you comfortable. I'm just more impressed by people who are comfortable in formal situations being casual. There's nothing ugly about them, they're just ungodly uncomfortable to me, so I won't wear one unless it's for someone else's benefit whom I care about making comfortable. (i.e. a prom date) |

Why wouldn't you wear one at a wedding? I'm sure your relatives would want you to but I might be wrong. let the record show that I'm not trying to press the fight forward, I'm just curious. |

let the record show that I'm not trying to press the fight forward, I'm just curious.
But I'd have to care about making them comfortable. It'd definitely depend on circumstance. Gaby was going to have me go to one of her relative's weddings, and I would for that to not make her uncomfortable, but with my own family it would depend on who was there as I don't care about most of them enough to change myself for their benefit. |

That would make sense. /has nothing else to say, really :-\ I dunno, I care enough about my family to do that. |
I would dress up if I had a suit and a tie, unfortunately, I don't. And they're so expensive. I'd love to go reservoir dogs style.

Go to the Belgian equivalent of Good Will. P.S. Happy 16k (finally :p) |
Oh, dear, I didn't even notice. And what the fuck?! How long have you had more posts than I? I've been here like a year longer.

Yeah, I would wear suits more often if I could afford more than one :-\ np: Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited |
Ironically, I'm wearing a Nile T-shirt.

Long enough dearie :-* (a few weeks if even, days I think) I guess you should just be on mx 24/7 like me... |
I'm on quite a lot, actually, but I don't visit as many forums as I used to. I used to be a pop punk regular, pit regular, R&M, other music, punk at times. I just stick around here more often nowadays.

Yeah, the multi forum thing helps a lot. I don't post more than anyone else in any one forum, just I post everywhere. |
I used to multi forum, but now I stick here mostly.

I like wearing suits/tux's. Dressing up makes you look sharp.

Exactly. You sort of get a feeling of power too, like you're some kind of head of authority, or a big businessman. Or that just might be me :-\ |

The new spotlight is up and ready. You guys voted Candlemass, so you got Candlemass. |
Exactly.

I always hate putting on a suit or anything similar. It always makes me feel like a pretensious jackass. Maybe it's just me. :(
|
I enjoy a suit every now and again. I look like I'd make a great James Bond villain.

Vital Remains are awesome, anyone into them?

Wear a suit if you want to look somewhat respectable dude. Society just runs that way. I love wearing suits though, so meh.
That's exactly what I was arguing against. Doing something just because everyone else does is so dumb, but so American. The thing is, you can't stop people judging you by your looks, but usually I avoid people in suits because I find they're the most boring and unenjoyable people around. That's one reason I prefer the internet. People can't judge you on stupid unimportant crap like looks, it's more who you are. Kinda. Basically though I can't stand that mindset of "Society does ___ so I should too." If enough people lose that mindset society will change for the better and a lot of good things will come of it. People who can't force themselves to see outside the box bring the whole of humanity down :-\ |

You'd eventually have to go with the flow though. No matter what you think, if try to go into a job interview, for a serious career, in street clothes, your boss will not hire you if you walk in there with a pair of jeans and a t shirt on. Your boss would expect a suit because he demands respect, and a suit is a respectable kind of apparel. You have to dress for success, and to impress in life. The world isn't going to look outside the box (wearing street clothes for a job interview, ect.) for a long while. It's just become custom, and a default, over time to do so. |

If it's the same as everyone else, fine, I'm not too unique myself, just don't do things because other people do. Maybe I won't try to ever get a "serious" career. I certainly have no intention of wroking at a place I'm required to wear a suit as daily attire. If I have to do it once in the interview, maybe, though I intend to avoid it if I can. "Dress for success" is one of the phrases that most bothers me. Ever. It implies you can't be successful without good clothing. It's a lie. I know they aren't, but it changes one person at a time. It used to be a custom to sacrifice people to gods, that changed. Customs change. |

Also, I've noticed that some of the most desired jobs are ones intended for suits. I don't know about you, but I want a good paying job when I'm older, and I definitely don't want a career in music, because I want a better chance at being successful in life. I want a family. I want a good house. You know, all that crap. Sure, a career as a bassist or a guitarist wouldn't be bad, but do you think I could actually support a family with that kind of job? It's a dangerous risk, being in an band, not knowing if you'll make it or not, possibly wasting years of your life and end up with nothing. That's true, but human sacrifices aren't even in the same ballpark as dressing out for a suit. Hell, it isn't even the same sport. But I think people have always been dressing in their best for their jobs. |

Absolutely. A friend told me about Dechristianize a while back - it's one of the most insane albums I've ever heard. |
