Well, they had metal songs before Sabbath.
Which of their songs were metal?

Born To Be Wild was pretty metal for the time. There are a few others I can't think the name of.

that doesn't sound heavy metal to me, although the lyrics could be one of the reasons of why this genre is called Heavy Metal. "Heavy Metal Thunder"

Aw3someman 01-04-2006 04:54 PM
wtf do you mean "duh". have you not heard Hit the Lights, The Four Horsemen, Motorbreath, Jump in the Fire, Pulling Teeth, and Metal Militia? personally i'm not a big fan of the songs i left out, but KEA is certainly not a one-hit album. stfu.
Seek and Destroy is generally noticed as the most popular single off KEA. And frankly the vocals on it pwn TFH and everything else on that album. However i do accept that you have your own opinion(damnit i hate being fucking politically correct)

No Life 'Til Leather- haven't heard anything from these.
Kill 'Em All- Seek And Destroy
Ride The Lightning- Too awesome to pick one song. (my fav album)
Master of Puppets- Leper Messiah
...And Justice For All- Harvester of Sorrow
Metallica- Of Wolf and Man
Live Sh*t: Binge and Purge- Seek and Destroy and One
Load- King Nothing
Re-Load- Fuel or The Unforgiven II
Garage Inc.- Whiskey in the Jar
S&M- Definetly Call of the Ktulu
St. Anger- Underrated album but The Unnamed Feeling

PepsiMetal 01-04-2006 04:55 PM

Born to be wild is barely a hard rock song. Even the riffs were nothing metal compared to sabbath. Their riffs were more like older rock n roll songs.

Plus they had some songs like magic carpet ride, and warewolfs in london, which were just what today would be called soft rock or pop rock.

I guess their riffs were just too soft to be considered metal. Sabbath had heavy and doomy riffs since they started though.

I think they're really bland.

PepsiMetal 01-04-2006 05:00 PM

Seek and Destroy intro is probably my favorite metal riff ever. The vocals on it are pretty bad though. I like motorbreath's vocals more, even though they're bad also.

Aw3someman 01-04-2006 05:03 PM

techincally i think James' vocal peak is The Black Album

Born To Be Wild was released a few years before Sabbaths first album. It was metal at that time. Some people agree, alot don't. This is just my opinion.

PepsiMetal 01-04-2006 05:30 PM

Yea, I definetely don't think or even consider them metal at all. Hard rock is probably the best I'd say, but even that sounds too heavy to call them. Sabbath was heavy then and it's still quite heavy today also. Especially their G-tar riffs. :p

Sph 01-04-2006 05:38 PM

Yeah, but you've really got to consider how fast music changed in the late 60's. Something that was heavy in '68 wasn't heavy in '69. Sabbath changed it all.

Anyway, what is there to talk about? This thread is getting stale, and will probably stay that way until there's some more info on the new album.

Kill em all: seek and destroy
MOP: battery
Metallica:wherevere I may roam
RTL: fade to black
Reload:fuel

That's got a few holes in it.

Britton 01-04-2006 06:06 PM
Steppenwolf are god fathers of metal?

Black Sabbath are though.

KEA - Seek and destroy
RTL - Fade to black
MOP - Battery
AJFA - To Live is to Die
Black Album - Unforgiven
Load - King Nothing (load sucks though)
Re-Load - Bad seed
Garage Inc - Whiskey in the jar
S&M - Call of Ktulu
St Anger - Dirty Window
That's a great list. My band is gonna do a cover of Whiskey (even though they don't know it yet)
My band cover that song I've always found it hard to figure the bass for that song but I do believe he plays to root notes of what Kirk plays so I just follow from that. Plus the song is down tuned which I hate doing I like to keep mine In Standard or Drop D.

MetallicaPunk 01-04-2006 08:09 PM

KEA: Seek And Destroy
RTL: For Whom The Bell Tolls
MOP: Master Of Puppets
...AJFA: One
BA: Sad But True
GDR (Garage days revisited): The Small Hours
Those are their best albums ever!

Grimm 01-04-2006 08:10 PM

Maybe we could talk about our favourite 'Tallica moments.like when James forgot the lyrics to Ride The Lightning on that show.a lot of us might find out something new and that'll lead to something.probably been done before though, this thread is pretty big.

Sph 01-04-2006 08:21 PM

What about when James stood on that pyrotechnic setup? I've always found that strangely humorous.

Joe 01-04-2006 08:35 PM
Disposable Heroes is still way too under-rated.
Yes is it, but in no sense is Fade to Black overrated.
What about when James stood on that pyrotechnic setup? I've always found that strangely humorous.
Fade to Black, about 12 years ago.

KEA - The Four Horsemen
RTL - Fade to black
MOP - Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
AJFA - Frayed Ends of Sanity
Black Album - The Struggle Within
Load - King Nothing
Re-Load - I just got it so I don't know. Prince Charming is cool, but my favorite as of now is still The Unforgiven II
Garage Inc - Astronomy
S&M - One
St Anger - Sweet Amber

I just copied the list from someone else. Why do people put S&M without other released recordings like Live Sh*t or the $5.98 Garage Days LP?
That's a great list. My band is gonna do a cover of Whiskey (even though they don't know it yet)
Mine won't do Metallica. My bassist finally agreed to do Sad But True so that's fine. I'm trying to make a medley of my band's favorite songs and we play a bit of each. It won't be amazing or anything, but I want to play at least some of Fade to Black live.

Grimm 01-04-2006 08:44 PM

people seem to like it when musicians get set on fire.well...some do...i do.thats coz they never set them selves on fire while dancing with lighters covered in beer.ONE HELLUVA PARTY!!!!!:smoke:

iluvkirkhammett 01-04-2006 10:14 PM

KEA - Whiplash
RTL - Creeping Death
MOP - Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
AJFA - Harvester of Sorrow
Black Album - My Friend of Misery
Load - Bleeding Me
Re-Load - Memory Remains
Garage Inc - Turn The Page
S&M - Devil's Dance
St Anger - Sweet Amber

Mine change a lot.

Sph 01-04-2006 10:21 PM

How can you not love a song devoted to Marshall amps. And to think Hetfield uses Mesa these days... :upset:

Britton 01-04-2006 11:43 PM

Mesa's own! When I was amp shopping this guy was like "Hey dude get a Mesa I have combos here they start at 1600" I was like "Umm i have 300 dollers..."

My favorite Tallica moment? hmm I'll have to think about that one

Zed Leppelin92 01-04-2006 11:44 PM

I know, i'd rather a Mesa than a Marshall but I prefer Hetfields Marshall sound.

I prefer the music he made with a marshall but I love his Mesa tone

Kirk still uses Marshalls right?

mick7 01-04-2006 11:55 PM

hmm this would have to be the 6th..no maybe 7th Metallica thread i've seen on this section in about 3 years. What was wrong with the other ones?
