I don't mind the Ramones. I have their movie Rock n Roll Highschool, and it's entertaining to watch. They didn't make bad music, they were almost like the punk version of AC/DC in my opinion (very simple music, yet catchy) Are they even still considered punk by people who call themselves "punks"? They almost seem to happy to be punk by todays standards, but I suppose there are a lot of punk bands that aren't always the stereotypical angry yelling type music. Although they had the three chord trick down. |

In conclusion, Ramones = good, fun, simple music. |

Yeah, The Ramones and The Clash were both early stages of punk, but didn't hate everybody. They had happy songs. :)
|
If only I'd find the acetate recording of Revolver or some other huge recording.
|

I convinced my band to play White Rabbit for the Battle of the Bands, along with a song I wrote. I really just picked White Rabbit because it's easy and sounds cool. "FEED YOUR HEAD!" ;) |
I don't like it when people call The Ramones classic rock. They aren't, they're punk which pretty much killed classic rock.
Though they have a good song or two. |
Ramones get old after about...2 months.
|

eh, Ramones. I think they only have a few good songs. I don't really like them. The voice just kills some of the songs. I'm rather partial to Garden on Serenity and I believe in miracles though.
but songs like Beat on The Brat just plain sucked |
Ramones get old after about...2 months.
The two months between the time you discover them, and actually discover some really good music ;) *keeping in mind they had a few (one, maybe two) songs that were pretty good. |
and ramones...definitely not classic rock.
|

punk helped bigtime. Killing the blues and folk based sound that I love. there were very few bands like that after punk took off. |
Hair Metal was what Grunge killed off, therefore (IMO) C.R. was killed off by Metal.
But revived by The Black Crowes and other Jam bands. |
ans teh darkness lol
or not. |
Okay... Classic Rock. Where is Stevie Ray Vaughan? He was a bit blues, but still classic rock. He was an amazing guitar player, and his style was so unique. He's definitely up there with Jimi Hendrix talent-wise.

He is considered more blues, but we don't mind discussing him in here. He was probably technically better than Jimi Hendrix, but he couldn't write many good songs that were outside the blues or blues rock genre, which was something Jimi Hendrix perfected. He was also heavily influenced by Hendrix. I'm a big fan of SRV, I'm not sure what my favourite song is...maybe Pride and Joy. He also does great versions of Hendrix songs, like Little Wing and Voodoo Chile. It's spelled Vaughan btw, it may have just been a typo but I'm not sure. |
yep... definitely a typo
|
I need suggestions for a CD to buy in a bit. Considering I doubt the store I'm going to will have Spirit's first two albums or any Donovan albums, I need to rethink my plan. Anyone got any great albums recently that aren't very common or something?
|
yep... definitely a typo
I thought so. :thumb: And Lunch, I own a couple Donovan albums, and I'll admit that his Best Of is the best. I may just not have his best albums though. I dunno what I would suggest to you. |
I can't get into Robert Johnson. I can't get into a lot of Blues (Minus a good amount of Country-Blues I hear), and I find him a bit repetitve (in some cases) and of course the old recordings do not help.
Leadbelly > Robert Johnson
howlin' wolf > leadbelly > robert johnson i shouldve quit you. long time ago. i dislike the ramones. theyre boring to me. i think punk was aimed more towards killing prog rock than classic rock in general. vaughans cover of little wing is my favorite song of his. |
more good bands... grand funk railroad and Bad company... i love bad companys self entitled song and shooting star...and ready for love is good too.
