Who is in your avatar, Jos?

EDIT: Is it a self portrait?

EDIT again: Is it a self portrait of you with your dual gats?
I'm not a fan of huge sized anything.

I'm really sick of my Pro Sonix hats, though. I'm going to upgrade for my birthday, but I haven't decided what to. I like Paiste 2002 sound edges a lot, but they're hella expensive. =/

And I'm mad at my pedals. My slave is clicking and I don't know why.
I had the same problem, you have to raise the foot board angle higher.

Ugh, I just drank rotten milk. Disgusting.

Ditto.

That or the beater is slightly loose. That would do it, too.

Nasty. My brother left a 3 week cup of milk hidden in his room and I found it yesterday. That was a big surprise.

Wow, the stronghold died. 6 hours after my post somebody else posted, then 5 hours after that one somebody else posted.
if you are a drummer that is even remotely serious DO NOT BUY THIS KICK, ive played for about a year and a half now, coming up on two pretty soon, this is the first double kick ive bought and I definitely regret it. Its a piece of crap. not smooth at all, it squeaks, the felt part of the beater is wearing off, no matter how hard I try even w/ the help of other people I can not seem 2 get the tensioning right at all and its never been right to begin with. My advice: If you ever buy a pedal anything besides this one. This is by far the biggest waste of money ive ever spent on my drum kit so far. and a pretty big disappointment
Wow.

I heard that stupid song in the Bette/Tina sex scene in the L-Word. I thought it was Melissa Etheridge, though. Maybe I'm not so gay afterall.

And wtf? Why is that song always used in NC-17 rated things?
Try it now.

Janeway 07-27-2006 03:03 PM

I like to clap and cheer when we pass crashes involving cars like that on the thruway.

My footboard is the same height as my other pedal. I adjusted it higher, and it still clicked. I also searched for an allen wrench for 20 minutes to fit my pedal so I could tighten the part thats holding the beater, and it's as tight as it will go with out stripping it.

Haha, yeah. I may drive fast at times, but never like that. Its totally not worth it.

fishbulb 07-27-2006 03:08 PM

This place slowed down a lot lately.

Jezen 07-27-2006 03:09 PM

My pedals are pretty.

Hmmm... is the hinge loose at all? I just jiggled my pedal around a bit and that's the only other thing I could come up with for why it might be clicking.

That or where the FDs fold together might be a little loose. I dunno.

:p

Really, BB? Do you like touching them in... places...?

Janeway 07-27-2006 03:11 PM

I hope my drum teacher will make me go through stick control.
I can't do it on my own. =/

Edit: It might be the hinges, but I've got to find another wrench.
I'm lazy.

And wtf are FDs?

crazyguy832 07-27-2006 03:12 PM

Are you serious?

I know it's a little hard getting started, but I just sit down at my kit and say "All right... I'm not doing anything else until I've done at least 20 minutes of Stick Control." It's worked so far.

:chug:

Janeway 07-27-2006 03:14 PM

I did 20 minutes of it last night and it was like the biggest orgasm when my mother yelled at me to go water the garden.

And I was winging it with out a metronome.

crazyguy832 07-27-2006 03:16 PM

FDs = Flying Dragons

Last I heard that's what you used. :p

And Stick Control really shouldn't be played without a metronome (imo). Same with any technique book, imho.

I usually go through at quarter note equals 100. Fast enough to not get boring but slow enough for me to jump to new patterns without taking a break or trying to figure out what's going on.

Jezen 07-27-2006 03:19 PM

I stroke my Big Dogs all over, thoroughly and intimately. All three of them. <3

Janeway 07-27-2006 03:20 PM

Agh. That was a weird context to use it in so I didn't get it.

I was doing them like I practice rudiments. Starting out slow, speeding up to as fast as possible, and then slowing it down to the starting point. That's the only way I don't get bored out of my mind.

crazyguy832 07-27-2006 03:21 PM

mmm... sounds like a good ol' fashioned orgy.

Hmmm... I don't really like that speeding up thing. I know other people do but I've never gotten it. Seems to me like all it is is promoting a bad habit.

:p

shablul 07-27-2006 03:53 PM

uh, i tried to play an hour of one stroke roll today at 100 bpm, after 10 minutes i got bored so i got to 110, and then after 15 minutes of 110 bpm i realllllyy got bored so i went to 160 and had fun for the rest of the hour that remained. :)
when i got tired i always thought of josiah saying that relaxation is important so i really practiced relaxation, wow you can just play really fast for a long time if your completly relaxed, it's so fun!

Jezen 07-27-2006 04:30 PM

Trying to get these to work..

Anybody listen to Dimmu Borgir?

Drum Phil 07-27-2006 04:31 PM

I have one of their albums

Berk 07-27-2006 04:32 PM

You like'em?

Drum Phil 07-27-2006 04:33 PM

They're ok. Nothing special

Jezen 07-27-2006 04:35 PM

Gavin Harrison is godly.

I fell off one of those once when I was 4. I've never bled so much in my life.

I was JUST watching that

Vannaroth 07-27-2006 05:32 PM
Anybody listen to Dimmu Borgir?
I used to, but I pretty much despise them now. Once in a blue moon, I'll listen to Stormblast or For All Tid, their only good recordings IMO.

fishbulb 07-27-2006 06:33 PM

I. Just. Solved. My. ƒucking. rubik's. cube.

Janeway 07-27-2006 06:51 PM

This is great.

I was outside with my pad, stick control, an alarm clock, a metronome, and a big cup of mint tea, all set to practice, and who comes over? My sisters fat friends.
And they sit on the deck and eat chicken wings.
The deck is maybe 30 feet away from where I was, in perfect view.

How the hell am I supposed to practice like that?
Damn it.

Does anybody here actually practice around other people?

crazyguy832 07-27-2006 06:52 PM

Well, my little brother's often right outside my room, but it's not like I can see him...

Actually, yeah. If I'm watching TV with my mom, I'll do rudiments on a pillow on my legs in the commercials.

:chug:

Do you like Botch or Despised Icon?
Do you like Botch or Despised Icon?
Don't really like Despised Icon, wayy too much "core" in their sound, just like constant breakdowns. I've never heard Botch.

MeaninglessPhoto 07-27-2006 07:31 PM
I do but not on purpose. People think im one hell of a drummer around here so whenever I practice they think they have to come see me practice when it ****s me up. Its retarded actually.

Berk 07-27-2006 07:35 PM

It's true ALL there stuff sounds exactly the same.
Botch is a great band. Download O Fortuna and Rock Lobster for great listens..

Yeah, they seem to be representive of a trend in modern death metal that I don't really like. I'll check out Botch though. I'm more into the older stuff, and some of the tech stuff. My favorite death metal band is probably Suffocation.
