magnolia, wtf? You know The Who are a hard band to pin. They have had such a long and storied career. Built there rep as a live band, and Pete wrote songs not with studio recording in mind, but live performance.

To get started I have to recommend Live At Leeds. It's raw, loud, and a completely physical live recording. Stilll considered the greatest live rock album ever, get the one WITHOUT Tommy. The deluxe edition is fine. But make sure it doesn't include Tommy (the rock opera). For a studio album I recommend Quadrophenia. It's a great double album that tells a good story. For early Who or a great overview of them in the studio and onstage from '65 to '78, The Kids Are Alright SOUNDTRACK. That's how I got started. The Who are not for everyone, perhaps. Or at least not everyone will think they are great. But if you give them a fair chance and don't mind a little eccentricity they can be very rewarding.

Lastly I would upload some of this stuff for you but all my Who stuff is on vinyl or poor quality mp3. But I will be getting there full library soon. Should have it by October. If you can wait I'd be more then happy to share as much as I can with you. I'm always happy to expose someone to music I love and I think is worthwhile. So yeah, I'll check back with you and you do the same if you don't here from me...

Until then the original 6 song Live At Leeds is what I recommend. Or the "Tommy-less" Deluxe Edition...

ok cool, thanks john, ill check those out

BridgeToSolace 08-09-2006 12:48 AM

My friend made me listen to The Who once, so that I could hear the "greating ****ing musicians of all time" (his words).

I was kinda bored.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Queen is the only decent classic rock band.

TheBigMachine 08-09-2006 01:34 AM

I dont like Queen that much, not really my style. Zeppelin and Purple ftw.

Chilly-Bean-Bop 08-09-2006 06:17 AM

omg its 7:15. while I'm gone, discuss how much waking up early sucks.

The Who were not even close to the greatest musicians. Moon and Entwistle were exceptional musicians. Yes, great. But that is not what The Who were about at all. And still aren't. So looking at them that way, yeah I can see where you might be bored.

I feel awesome today. Tomorrow I go to Montreal and start my sweet weekend there, this morning I finally figured out the automated system for my station and got it running, and then later tonight I'm going out to dinner with my girl and then heading to a pool hall with her for the rest of the night.

:)

I have one I may take, but I'm not too sure yet. I don't know whether I can be arsed carrying it.

And I'm listening to Gatsby's American Dream - Volcano for the first time in a while, and it's a lot better than I remembered. I may have to get their new album as well.

I'm wicked pissed! I went to HMV and bought Sopranos season 1 and Nip/Tuck season 2, both are 18s, and they didn't even ID me! I wanted to be all "Oh, here is is *superman pose*".

I also got Chromehounds for 360 after trading in 2 games, and The Mechanic, The Mother, And The Path, which is quickly becoming one of my favourite albums of the year. Tomorrow I'm going to trade in my Zoom pedal for a new Boss pedal, although not sure what to get at the moment.

Happy birthday for if it's today.

And the new TE11 is great, I love listening to The Path while in bed with decent headphones.
Which zoom pedal do you have? I have a 606i or something, and it's crap for playing loud, but sounds alright quiet. I don't like it though, because all guitars sound the same through it, so you can't tell if it's a nice guitar you're playing or not.

Hahaha. When I turned 18, I went to Montreal and there I went to the casino, strip clubs and bars and didn't get carded once.

Happy B-day man.

bottlerocket 08-09-2006 11:39 AM

I need an opinion for those of you who know the Gav/Liz story:

Is it creepy if I write a song for her on acoustic guitar and plan on playing it for her when we go to the beach sometime the week before we go away to college?

-Gav

ZaaR 08-09-2006 11:39 AM

so nofx are on the soundtrack for nhl 07. they're one of the main songs too.

bottlerocket 08-09-2006 11:39 AM

Greg, cut the crap. Frankly, I'm getting really tired of the stuff you pull. Cut it out.

-Gav

nobodyforeverblossoms 08-09-2006 11:40 AM

If that's the case then IP Ban my ass. Everyone hates me so just go on and do it.

bottlerocket 08-09-2006 11:43 AM

I can't IP ban you. Plus, IP bans do nothing, you know that.

Just don't post like an idiot; that's all. It's not too difficult.

-Gav

nobodyforeverblossoms 08-09-2006 11:45 AM

bottlerocket 08-09-2006 11:49 AM

I'm going to work. If Greg decides to mass spam the forum, report it ASAP in the site forum in the report problem users/threads thread:
