Can you play good, and can you record?
I spend most of my time playing Nightwish stuff - that and old Dio. I am by no means the greatest drummer, (even if I were I would never say so) but I can hold down a beat, do some double bass pedalling and have a pretty good repertoire of fills. When you say record, we have an old analogue 8 track that we use - I intend to go digital very soon. :)

So there's no way you could get it onto your computer?

Sorry about the delay in replying - I had to go off and fix a bed! Yes, really. And almost ended my drumming career in double-quick time too - nearly had my index finger torn from the knuckle by the chuck key. I am now sporting a large plaster over a deep gash in a painfully swollen 1st knuckle. Such is life. :upset:
It doesn't sound like it at pres - unless anyone knows how to convert stuff on analogue tape to something digital that a computer can upload. Makes me wish I'd done something about a soundcard and Cubase quicker.

Brew 06-05-2005 09:19 AM

Cubase is pwnage, if anyone has it it'd be a real help for programming the drums, I can do it easily.

Depending on how long we have to do this cover project, I'm back at school on the 20th of this month so I can spend my free lessons in the music tech room programming the drums providing I can get a tab/score. I could even record the bass at school.

I have Cubase but due to a certain sound card exploding I have not got around to using it yet :upset:

Brew 06-05-2005 09:42 AM

We have SX3 at school

I only really figured out how to use everything in it towards the end of the AS course, so next year should be a piece of cake.

Brew 06-05-2005 04:38 PM

So I've had an idea for our cover...

Instead of do The Warning...why not do Heaven and Hell, the version thats on Live Evil?

We could do it how they do it, play a chunk of H&H, then part of Sign of the Southern Cross, then back into H&H. If we really wanted we could finish it with Paranoid.

That'd clock in at easily 25mins, if we pull it off well we'd win for sure amirite?

Or

We could do the Sign of the Southern Cross/Heaven and Hell/Paranoid medley as found on Live Evil, that'd be good.

Brew 06-06-2005 02:17 AM

bump so the regs see the thread.

rippa32 06-06-2005 06:21 AM

If youre going to finish with a well known ozzy era song, why not go with NIB? with bass solo included.

Brew 06-06-2005 11:41 AM

Could do, its one of my fav. Sabbath songs to play.

AA-12 06-06-2005 11:48 AM

Idea for NIB:

Maybe you (Andy) Could do the solo in the intro, but improv a bit after just for the sake of making it a bit different? Just an idea.

Brew 06-06-2005 01:52 PM

I improv it anyways, I've never actually learnt the real solo that Geezer plays.

Black Sabbath

Black Sabbath is one of the most amazing Classic Rock bands ever. War Pigs is the greatest song ever made by them IMO.

Brew 06-06-2005 03:03 PM

Thank god you didn't say Paranoid.
Black Sabbath is one of the most amazing Classic Rock bands ever. War Pigs is the greatest song ever made by them IMO.
I personally don't like Sabbath being categorised as classic rock - it makes them sound a bit, well, limp! Classic Metal sounds better to me! :thumb:

rippa32 06-06-2005 10:39 PM

I never use the term classic to describe any type of music. And I never use metal to describe Black Sabbath. Its hard rock, not metal.

Brew 06-07-2005 06:35 AM

As I've always said - Sabbath are Hard Rock n Roll.

Right guys...we really need to get our cover sorted.

Seeing as other threads (eg: Iron Maiden) are doing a setlist of around 5 songs, I think we should do something similar.

Something like...

Neon Knights
NIB
Children of the Grave
Heaven and Hell/Paranoid
Black Sabbath?

Discuss that list.

Kronos 06-07-2005 02:21 PM
I never use the term classic to describe any type of music. And I never use metal to describe Black Sabbath. Its hard rock, not metal.
Why is it not metal? Hard Rock to me says AC/DC and Motorhead GnR etc. What is not metal about Sabbath?

BassMasterMike88 06-07-2005 03:00 PM

If you want to get technical Sabbeth is more acid rock, but its the fact they are key figure heads in the evolution of metal that make them so important.

You spelled Sabbath wrong.

Brew 06-07-2005 05:48 PM

You used the wrong form of Spell.

Should've been Spelt.

You Spelt Sabbath wrong.

:)

I'm close to making a size 7 post about our cover. So far all I know is this...

Me - Bass
IAJP - Guitar
RumBoy - Drums?
Josh - Vocals?

:(

Brew 06-08-2005 02:00 AM

Hey guys, I know it sounds annoying but we need to get our arses in gear for this cover project.

Size 7 makes things look important :)

AA-12 06-08-2005 02:08 AM

Relevant: Yes we do. I wish we could find someone who could match Ozzy's vocals because i've realized that this is like a strict cover competition, and not just us putting our own spin on it. I'm pretty far from having Sabbath like vocals. :-|

Irrelevant: I got a 100 watt bass amp yesterday, an Ibanez.

Brew 06-08-2005 02:13 AM

Relevant: I think we should do some Ozzy and Dio songs, I can't really find tabs for any others.

Irrelevant: Big phat bass amps are great, mines only a 60watt but its alot louder than yer average 60watt.

AA-12 06-08-2005 02:29 AM

Also, I found a semi good Geezer tone, like the really thumpy one on War Pigs. I'll post the settings a bit later once I can go back into my music room. People sleeping there now.

I<3Ollievu! 06-08-2005 02:38 AM

I think you should play tv crimes

Brew 06-08-2005 02:53 AM

Josh: Sweet, I can kinda get a Geezer tone but its not exact yet.

Dude above me: TV Crimes is one of my fav. Sabbath songs.

Josh 06-08-2005 03:01 AM

TV crimes is my favourite Dio-era Sabbath song.

I found out one thing that helps a lot is to pluck the strings in an almost slapping way, but not like real slap. Yes, I realize how that made no sense.

Brew 06-08-2005 04:33 AM

I do that to my strings anyway when playing a few Sabs songs.

AA-12 06-08-2005 04:48 AM

I was watching a Sabbath video yesterday, and I noticed that he has a crazy technique for his right hand. It seems like he would never be accurate.

Brew 06-08-2005 04:54 AM

His right hand is pretty fast, it does seem a little different but he always seems to hit the right notes.

I'm wearing my Kiss shorts

AA-12 06-08-2005 05:10 AM

I've got on Mr. Potato Head boxers and an Opeth shirt.

Brew 06-08-2005 05:27 AM

These shorts are tighter than what I remember them being when I'm sat down.

rippa32 06-08-2005 05:34 AM

lol nice and random. Another piece of randomness, I dreamt about being at a sabbath conert last night and I also met Iommi, he seemed to be the main point of the dream.

AA-12 06-08-2005 05:49 AM
These shorts are tighter than what I remember them being when I'm sat down.
That's one thing I hate, tight shorts.

Brew 06-08-2005 06:31 AM

They're fine when I'm standing, just a lil tight when sitting.

Ah well.
