A Tribe Called Quest, Trevo.
Ok, thanks, I'll search it up. Any others you know of?

TimJim 03-17-2007 10:48 AM

i know something u dont know.......

Spaceman Spiff 03-17-2007 10:48 AM

The Pogues are an Irish folk/punk band. They've been around since the early 1980s. Their singer, Shane MacGowan, was a huge alcoholic for a long time, thus ending The Pogues, but also screwing up several tours; it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for him to be too drunk to go on stage and perform.

Anyway, I guess he's cleaned up, as they are performing tonight in New York. They are an incredible band, a real classic.

TimJim 03-17-2007 10:49 AM

i need to look them up

Thonk 03-17-2007 10:50 AM

Hmm, nothing that really sticks out in my mind.

Some Dead Prez has nice bass, though.

PaulSimonon 03-17-2007 10:51 AM

ATCQ has badass basslines, but when you've got Ron Carter playing it's hard not to... Outkast, Jurassic 5, and The Roots all can have some good lines too.

Jody LeCompte 03-17-2007 10:52 AM

ANDREW! <3

I thought you died.

PaulSimonon 03-17-2007 10:54 AM

Where have you been all my life Jody?!

Spaceman Spiff 03-17-2007 10:54 AM

Andrew! Love me, not Jody!

Jody LeCompte 03-17-2007 10:55 AM

Ive been in my room forging my path as an acoustic guitar player with the touch of a black man that played bass his whole life.

AKA, I just got done doing a "pseduo-pedal steel" rendition of Come Together and Im working on this John Renbourn influenced fingerstyle peice in open Gm(which is the best tuning in the world)

Trevo 03-17-2007 10:56 AM

And Thonk, what are some good A Tribe Called Quest songs?

PaulSimonon 03-17-2007 10:57 AM

Ahhhh! Can't I have both?!

I've just been playing my acoustic, and trying every now and then to bring back my bass chops. Mainly hanging out with people though, been having a hectic couple of weeks.

Jody LeCompte 03-17-2007 10:58 AM

I seldomly ever play bass anymore. Playing bass by myself is boring. When another musician worth anything moves to my town Ill pick up bass again.

Spaceman Spiff 03-17-2007 10:58 AM

Is no one as jealous as I am that my brother is seeing The Pogues tonight? I know I'm not the only one on this forum that loves that band.

Jody LeCompte 03-17-2007 11:00 AM

You said punk and my ears tuned off.

PaulSimonon 03-17-2007 11:00 AM
And Thonk, what are some good A Tribe Called Quest songs?
Pretty much anything offa Midnight Mauraders or People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rythm.

I Left My Wallet in El Segundo is my favorite track of ATCQ.

PaulSimonon 03-17-2007 11:01 AM

*shrugs* Never been a big Pogues fan.

Is it mostly good basslines?

Thonk 03-17-2007 11:02 AM

Anything by them, haha.

Check out stuff from The Low End Theory.

edit: Listen to Andrew. I only have Midnight Marauders and The Low End Theory so I can't really say much about them.

Spaceman Spiff 03-17-2007 11:02 AM

Whatever... you people suck, then.

The Killers

Jody LeCompte 03-17-2007 11:07 AM

Andrew, Youll appreciate this.

Ive got a bluegrass tribute to Hot Fuss by the Killers.

Spaceman Spiff 03-17-2007 11:08 AM

You know, The Killers aren't actually good...

Jody LeCompte 03-17-2007 11:08 AM

But a band of 90 year olds playing all their songs bluegrass style is....

Trevo 03-17-2007 11:10 AM

I just got a sweet idea for next matchday.
