I lent it to a friend and never got it back.

Bartender 11-19-2005 06:10 PM

Ah, for the want of a good non-chain store anywhere near anywhere I've ever lived.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-19-2005 06:14 PM

I hate when that happens. I let a friend borrow my copy of Make Yourself by Incubus, and he lost it. He told me "Well, you have it ripped on your computer, so who cares?"

WTF!?

It's just not the same if you don't have a hard true copy of an album. :upset:

So I started compiling a list of albums that I want for Christmas, and here's what I've got so far.

Porcupine Tree- Signify, Up the Downstair, Sky Moves Sideways
Arcturus- La Masquerade Infernale
Ulver- Blood Inside, Perdition City
Dredg- El Cielo

Any reccomendations would be awesome. :)

Bart- I can empathize. :upset:
The last time I went into a CD store I was looking for Check Your Head by the Beastie Boys and wound up getting Peace & Love by The Pogues, Beck-Ola by Jeff Beck, and Tonight's The Night by Neil Young. Whoops.
Get it next time you're out. Next best BB album, behind you know what.

You definitely want "Blood Inside," that's a great album. If you haven't gotten any Agalloch yet do so. I just got "Spirals in Hyperspace" by the Ozric Tentacles and it's fantastic.

Jeff Beck: Who Else! is great too.

Oh yeah, and:

Scott Stapp: The Great Divide. Trust me, it's like getting Christ for Christmas.

:p

What is this, your fourth show of theirs? Jebus, I haven't seen them once yet!

How was it?

EDIT: Japanese guitarists are always so ridiculously good. Check for another thing that Asian people are always better at than white people.

jpj: Do you have that list compiled by genre?

Ha, yeh it was good. Not as good as the Manchester show though, but they totally kicked the crap out of AC/DC's version of Whole Lotta Rosie, mainly because Tremonti is good.

And you are right, check out Ark Storm for a Japanese guitarist better than Yngwie.

Thankfully, white people are still more stylish than Asians. :p That silver haired dude has got it going on, though.

BTW, I just saw "Goodnight and Good Luck," and it was great. Anybody else see it?

jpj 11-19-2005 06:42 PM
jpj: Do you have that list compiled by genre?
Nope, all the power metal is together because I added it all at the same time, copy/pasted from Steerpike's (I think) thread on power metal.
jpj: are you rich?!
No, but it's not like I'll be getting all of those. However, last year I got 35 CD's for Christmas because I made it perfectly clear I wanted absolutely nothing else.

Arucard 11-19-2005 06:42 PM

I discovered that only people in bands can dress really stupidly and get away with it. I wore a pirate costume to my last gig and it was all good. It was like a waist coat and white shirt, with these funny boots and a skull bandana, and when we played our pirate song i gave some people some swords.

Munky : No, i don't have enough money to get Total Guitar till tommorow.

A (small) live Silverginger 5 video.

Only interesting fact I know about that video: the guy stage-diving at the start is Damo, Australia's most famous Wildhearts fan. The Listees all chipped in to fly him over to England to see SG5.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-19-2005 07:02 PM

Damo the drum mod?

Bartender 11-19-2005 07:10 PM

Nope, an entirely different Damo, though I asked him the same thing.

TojesDolan 11-19-2005 07:15 PM

I thought it was the Damo.

meh, I'll download it anyways.

Many thanks, it's fantastic. Now I just need to get my hands on the magazine so I can learn it.

Jake: I know you had Blood Inside on your list, I was just reinforcing your decision to place it on your list. :)

EDIT: Jeez-us, this Tremonti track is friggin' great. If he ever comes out with a solo album I'm getting it. It sounds like Satriani filtered through a George-Lynch-like freneticism, with a sort of "Nevermore light" feel to the riffs.

Arucard 11-19-2005 07:48 PM

Yah, the riffs are pretty thrashy. Drumming isn't metal enough though, they should got Michael Van Dyne to death it up a bit.

Jom 11-19-2005 08:19 PM

Best freakin' game show ever amirite (imrite).

Scott Phillips is getting better at that sort of thing though, you have to admit that he didn't get much chance to be a drum virtuoso in Creed. I'm sure that with Mark Tremonti pushing the envelope more in that direction, the rhythms will fall into place accordingly.

And then maybe on a good day he'll tickle Beelzebub's armpits.

Speaking of which, I just started up a new d20 Modern Shadow Chasers campaign on-campus. I can finally use all of my useless knowledge about the occult in something that people will actually appreciate!
