Now, I know I'm changing the subject here a little, but I just want to know who has watched the S&M concert? I know it was about 6+ years ago, but I only recently brought it on DVD. I just wanted to know what everyone else thought about it. Quite honestly, I think it is up there with some of the greatest concerts of all time, if not, the greatest. It brings together two of the most far apart genres of music and unites them briliantly. Songs like 'Master of Puppets', 'The Call of Ktulu', 'One', 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' and 'Nothing Else Matters' are just a few of the greats, and with the San Fransicso Symphony Orchestra in the background, conducted by Michael Kaymen makes all of these songs complete.

Pure Genius.:chug:
I just got that dvd for christmas, I love it.

That was great. I loved how he did the bends and stuff in the beginning. Damn, cliff was such a badass musician. Would be interesting to see if he lived what he would have came up with today.

seriously, I wonder what Metallica would be like today if Cliff never died.

PepsiMetal 12-31-2005 04:46 PM

I remember seeing a vid of him talking about not giving a crap about people calling them sellouts when they signed with elektra. I'm pretty sure his attitute would still be the same today.

john myung > cliff burton ;)

yea S&M is great, i love the orchestration. but sometimes, it doesn't seem to fit. like on one, when the guitars/double bass drum play really fast sextuplets...the string melody over that is totally unnecessary and it takes attention away from the whole headbanging moment.

great DVD tho,if you don't have it, pick it up.

i love the part on for whom the bell tolls when james yells "take a look to the sky just before you die / it's the last time you WILL!" and house lights go out :]

PepsiMetal 12-31-2005 05:10 PM

There are better bassists than myung also. :)

And I agree, the orchastra doesn't always fit with heavy metal, but it is a nice addition to it once in a while. Adds a little diversity and stuff.

NP: Call of Ktulu S&M

Yeah that is awsome! For whom the bell tolls is one of the songs we cover in our band.

FluorescentArmy 12-31-2005 06:22 PM

Hey guys, I'm new!

Well I like to listen to Metallica. My first album I got was ...And Justice for All. My favorite song on there was Blackened. I just enjoyed its solo. My other favorite songs are: One, Sanitarium, Blackened, The Four Horsemen, Orion, Ride the Lightning, Harvester of Sorrow, and ...and justice for all.

Thank you for saying that. Anyone who thinks Burton or Myung are the best bassists ever are stupid.

What's your band called? Cos I saw a local band play in kent and they covered for whom the bell tolls, enter sandman, and maiden's fear of the dark.

Hey welcome to the Forums and the Metallica Thread. You just named pretty much everyone's favorite albums and songs btw:chug:

BLS_Infernus 12-31-2005 07:07 PM

yeah...Harvester of Sorrow is my personal all time favorite

Aw3someman 12-31-2005 07:10 PM

I love that rhythmn just after the intro. It is a true classic. James's vocals come together really nicely on that song.

BLS_Infernus 12-31-2005 07:25 PM

this is where Dave Mustaine wish he was in time:

Khaos 12-31-2005 08:21 PM

Harvestor of Sorrow is your favourite song? Its ok, I love the riff and chorus but personally by far my favourite Metallica song has to be either Jump In The Fire or One. Jump in the Fire is just such a great song because of the riff and speed and One makes me cream my pants everytime I hear it. Its just something about the whole story and feel about it.

RR_legend 12-31-2005 08:24 PM

i remember the first song i ever heard from them was Creeping Death. 2 days later i downloaded all of their songs. 3 months later i bought my first guitar.
been playing ever since. i was just looking for a tab on "Seek & Destroy"-s solo, when i found this forum. if anyone knows where i can find it let me know.

Sph 12-31-2005 08:57 PM

Welcome to the forums. 911tabs is still up and running, good luck finding many other sites though.

On topic, Disposable Heroes would have to be my fave 'Tallica song. The solo is amazing. Certainly under-rated.

BLS_Infernus 12-31-2005 10:09 PM

Pulling Teeth is probabley my favorite bass and drums part from Metallica

mr black 12-31-2005 10:53 PM

KingJay your avatar kicks so much balls its not funny. Yeah i've always had a soft spot for pulling teeth, it doesn't sound to difficult to me personally from what i've heard other bassist's do. But mabye im just a naive guitarist :smash:

BLS_Infernus 12-31-2005 11:01 PM

I've tried playing that on guitar and it makes a pretty sweet solo sound...the one thing I don't like about Cliff is how sloppy he was but that could be a plus as well

Britton 12-31-2005 11:15 PM

I can play Pulling Teeth. It's actually really easy...it gets a little hard to learn towards the end...but other then that it's really a piece of cake

Sph 12-31-2005 11:21 PM

I've used to have a few vids of Burtons live solos. That man was incredible.

iluvkirkhammett 01-01-2006 12:21 AM

He was pretty awesome.

My favourite songs are Creeping Death and Whiplash.

Lol. I am that transparent?

Nah, Cliff was different. Jason was an awesome back up vocalist, Cliff was the better soloist. Jason uses a pick, Cliff never did. You know how it goes.

Yeah, to each his own. Out of the 2 I like cliff better. He had more style and feel.

Khaos 01-01-2006 01:06 AM

Cliff was tons better than Jason! I never really cared for Jason, his lines were kinda ****ty.
