 There's a Metallica vs Megadeth thread in the guitar forum!
|
i prefer megadeth over metallica :]
to me, metallica's "greatness" lies in their influence and mass appeal, rather than their playing ability/songwriting. however, i'll be honest and admit it was because of kirk hammett i first wanted to pick up a guitar, as i'm sure he has influenced many of us on here. although ironically...it was the solo to "nothing else matters" played by hetfield that was the thing i wanted to learn badly. so props to 'tallica~ |

^ definitely haven't touched "one" in months.
i should get back to it. after getting eruption down, i think i can tackle the tapping bit :] |

I my personal favorite part is Kirk's wankfest on the first CD and DVD when they are in Mexico |

I hate that old school Thrash sound on Kill 'Em all other then Seek and Destory...and why is St. Anger ahead of that? have you ever seen the rehersal DVD or Metallica play it live? it freakin' pwns. people need to get past the "OMG NO SOLOS" phase because you are missing out on a good album. sure I would love to have solo on that album but there isn't any so just face it. one thing I do like is Metallica is back in the studio and I heard from word of Lars, Hetfield,Rob and Hammett that solos are back on for the new album

Though I agree that it isn't that bad. I don't mind that it has no solos but this argument has gone on for the past few years. I have seen them play tracks from St. Anger live and James can hit a lot of the notes, it was also too repetitive and their wasn't enough changes and fills to fill in the 9 minute songs. I don't mind listening to St. Anger but I can't help feel that it was really boring. |
hey that you...I found to be a little entertaining and different then the normal which is a good thing. the sound has a more mature sound then Metallica's listen normally are but I liked it

I thought The Black Album was more mature than St. Anger. :smoke: |

*shakes head* St. Anger sucked for me for many reasons. The general reasons are that Lars forgot to sort out his kit, although is was probably his best drumming performance in Metallica. Also that the songs were long without warranting them to be long. What the hell happened? they made the songs 8 minutes to prove to fans they still have it? it ain't working when it's the same riff over and over again. Yes, no solo's did suck, but the the whole album sucked without that factor included. |

Metallica also never really had short songs so qhy start making them 25 years later? |

I'm not debating that. I'm just saying they're crap riffs. It's my opinion, but generally you can't use the same crap riff over and over again. Frantic pissed me off the most. |
James regrets making the songs that long. He said he made the same mistake with AJFA.

Check out this video of Cliff in For Whom the Bell Tolls (rippin' bass solo in the beginning)
edit- damn link didn't parse. |
Now, I know I'm changing the subject here a little, but I just want to know who has watched the S&M concert? I know it was about 6+ years ago, but I only recently brought it on DVD. I just wanted to know what everyone else thought about it. Quite honestly, I think it is up there with some of the greatest concerts of all time, if not, the greatest. It brings together two of the most far apart genres of music and unites them briliantly. Songs like 'Master of Puppets', 'The Call of Ktulu', 'One', 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' and 'Nothing Else Matters' are just a few of the greats, and with the San Fransicso Symphony Orchestra in the background, conducted by Michael Kaymen makes all of these songs complete.
Pure Genius.:chug: |

NEM on S&M was AMAZING. It's great live normally also, much better than a recorded one.
Call of Ktulu was also amazing. And so was fuel. Most songs were great with orchestra. [QUOTE=ThrashMaster27]*shakes head* St. Anger sucked for me for many reasons. All the fans wanted raw and thrash album, not hard rock like load and reload, so they delivered. It was different, but quite heavy and raw sounding. Riffs are amazing on st. anger, except they use same riff too much. But if kirk just added like a 40 second solo, it wouldn't seem so repetitive. The drumming probably isn't lars' best. Most beats were pretty simplistic just like always. His best drumming is probably on AJFA. |
