ATM 02-25-2005 08:19 PM

Annnd I'm back.

Illmatic 02-25-2005 08:20 PM
I'm not.

And what about Oedipus and Elektra conflicts?
My father passed before I could make a bond with him.

But I am a bit of a mama's boy (c'mon, what black guy isn't? Even if my mom IS white).

lunch998 02-25-2005 08:20 PM
I know what you're saying. Kids tend to have different bonds with each parent. And historically, yeah, moms are more lenient than dads.

OMGWTF, lucky.
I know my dad is more lenient on what I do than my mom is. I may be closer with my mom though. That's what I'm trying to say.

Bartender 02-25-2005 08:21 PM
Maybe closer wasn't the right word. It seems like a guy's dad will allow the kid to do more than his mom will, and vice versa for girls.
Oh right. Well yeah, maybe. That doesn't necessarily make for a closer relationship, though.

In fact, you could make an argument for the idea that it indicates a less close relationship - i.e. a father may be more permissive of his son's actions (than the mother) because he is not as close to him, and feels like they have to make up for it somehow ("buying their love", however bad that phrase is).

Thanks man! awesome
Fair enough. I do though.
What band?

Bartender 02-25-2005 08:22 PM
Nor am I, to be honest. I mean, I get equal love from both parents, it's just that my mom is just more similiar to me than my dad. I look like her more, and I have her temprament.
Yeah, same here. And my sister seems to share a lot more in common with my dad (though that's a huge generalisation, and there's mixes and exceptions to this all over the place).

ATM 02-25-2005 08:22 PM

AH, you should try and draw me.

Illmatic 02-25-2005 08:23 PM
Ray, what happened to your dad?
He died when I was 6. Hit-and-run late at night. My mom (and all my relatives) say I'm just like him, though.

Dancin' Man 02-25-2005 08:24 PM
What band?
Skindred
Reggae Metal

My dad and I are much more alike than me and my mother. He and I are both very similar in appearance and temprament. We have similar attitudes towars most things. We butt heads on many things too but mostly because we are so alike. I am much closer to him than my mom. She and I don't see eye to eye at all although we argue less. I don't want to waste my time arguing with her because she is stubborn and generally stupid about things.

/not emo moment. Loves both parents.

Bartender 02-25-2005 08:24 PM
Oedipus is cool.
Heh, well that depends on your views of things. I wish I knew who Elektra was though; Freud uses her name for the mirror image conflict that takes place in young girls (as opposed to boys) but no one I've been taught by ever seemed to know who the hell she was.

With a car or a gun?

/has to ask because of obvious circumstances

BoboTheRagingHobo 02-25-2005 08:25 PM

Work sucks.

that is all I need to say.

Dancin' Man 02-25-2005 08:26 PM

AH - at least you got my state correct.

Rep if I have it.
With a car or a gun?

Car. He died in the North Side (the business part). He was crossing the street to get to a parking garage and he just got hit by a car.

ATM 02-25-2005 08:26 PM
Alright, give me a general idea of what you would like.
Ok, well I am a college student, a huge Radiohead fan, and I spend far too much time on the computer.

Illmatic 02-25-2005 08:27 PM
That's really shitty man, I'm sorry to read that. Was this in Chicago or Boston or did you live elsewhere before this happened?
It was in Chicago (clearly, as you can see by my previous post).

What do you think is more essential:

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
or
Metallica - Master of Puppets

Well yeah, it is a good story. Good stories and tidbits of information are always a good thing though. Japan's good for them, I find.

I'd say Sabbath, but I've the feeling that's just because I like them more than I do Metallica.
