Conclusion: Ginger Baker plays with big sticks.

No, he plays with small sticks! :p |
And Bruce sings great on ToBU, since you keep bringing up vocals.
Listen to Live Cream Vol. 2's Tales of Brave Ulysses and tell me what you think about Bruce's vocals. They are literally to die for... and I'm not saying that in a good way. |
I never brought up anything about his live vocals. On the Farewell Concert I think they are fine, but I never really cared about them. That's not what Cream live is about.

Well, his vocal part is why I think that Bruce shine's more on the studio rather than live. As the vocalist of the group one would've expected more of him. Oh, and I didn't say that to pick an argument with you. I just talked about his live vocals earlier, and liked to point it out. Not saying it to just contradict you or anything. |
OH HO! I see how it is.
Leave me and Gumboot to be the last Bluegrass players. :p
Don't worry, I still play tons of bluegrass. I just call myself a blues guitarist because no matter what type of song I try to write, it always turns into a blues song. Blues just comes naturally. Bluegrass I gotta work at a bit more. |
Conclusion: Ginger Baker plays with big sticks.
yeah, he gets a huge sound, which is odd because bruce has said that baker is one of the softest hitters hes ever seen. which is cool too. his smaller bass drum depths give him that punchy bass sound. conclusion 2: toad is amazing |
Bluegrass I gotta work at a bit more.
And work you will! The uprising is coming, and the Bluegrass bretheren must be ready! |
I remember a couple weeks ago we played Sunshine of Your Love for some audition thing...
My drummer (who mainly plays punk type music) was like "the drum part is all messed up, he always just keeps hitting random notes after he plays the normal beat" I then had to explain the concept of a drum fill. (and contemplated getting a new drummer) |

Yeah we "passed" or whatever the term is. The actual thing is on June 8th. I've gotta write two songs by then apparently, and then we gotta practice them. I have a feeling it's gonna be mostly improvised. |
Could anyone list all the instruments Ian Anderson plays? Please.

There's nothing quite like winging a song. |

Oh Good God! I posted them a while back in a Jethro Tull thread, but there are about 20 different instruments. I went through all my Tull albums and wrote down all the instruments he played, he's probably played much more since then though, because I only have their vinyl albums. Vocals (obviously) Flute Acoustic Guitar Mandolin Whistles (Songs from the Wood) Drums (Under Wraps) Hammond Organ Piano Harmonica Balalaika (WTF is that?...from Stand Up) Violin (Thick as a Brick) Saxophone (Thick as a Brick) Trumpet (Thick as a Brick) That's what I gathered from about five or six albums. I know Tull released about 30 albums, so there are probably much more. |

I did a search found it:
Alright, let me prove how amazing Ian Anderson is... Not only did he write 95 percent of the lyrics and most of the music, he also played: Vocals (obviously) Flute Acoustic Guitar Mandolin Whistles (Songs from the Wood) Drums (Under Wraps) Hammond Organ Piano Harmonica Balalaika (WTF is that?...from Stand Up) Violin (Thick as a Brick) Saxophone (Thick as a Brick) Trumpet (Thick as a Brick) And that's just what he played on the few albums I own...they had over forty albums between 1968 and 1999.
I knew he played a lot but I didn't know what he played. Thanks Thickasabrick. |
I beat you. But good effort nonetheless. How come you need this info so desperately?
And may I be the nerd to point out we were just on page 1337. |

I don't think there are drum fills in punk music...isn't it just bashing everything mindlessly?
pardon my ignorance. |
No, unfortunately. My friends saw someone (I forget who) there a couple weeks ago and it was great.
I just saw Porcupine Tree there, and it was incredible. |

What's that supposed to mean? Either way my comment was half-tongue-in-cheek. |

Happy 63rd Bob Dylan! :smoke: :chug:
/bump |
Horray!!
Because of this, I will now listen to some of the Byrds' better renditions of Bob Dylan originals. |
You were going to do that anyway.

Moon, after listening to Anthem of the Sun, and watching Festival Express (I liked both very much), I think I'll give American Beauty another shot. You might have converted me with that Anthem of the Sun upload.

Well, their performance of "Ease Me In" is no surprise; it is fantastic. But you getting into them through Anthem of the Sun is. You are one of the few. If you ever need a Dead album, just ask and I'll send you it. |
You were going to do that anyway.
That's cause I'm ahead of the game. |
I'm a pretty big Dead fan I guess, but I still don't see the huge deal about American Beauty. I like it and all, but I don't think of it as their crowning acheivment and one of the best records ever. Workingman's Dead is much better, in my opinion.
