My parents bitched me out today for like half an hour, it was no good. Oh, and I just got banned on top of it :-\
Why'd your parents yell at you? Aren't you in Arizona while they're in Colorado?
What's happening with all of you?
High school is going much, much smoother than I expected. I'm only four days in though :-\

Vince: how'd you get banned?
Why'd your parents yell at you? Aren't you in Arizona while they're in Colorado?
Ehm they basically went on about how I need to get a job and how I need a social life. My dad is apparently trying to get me into a frat because he thinks I need a social life that bad and in addition he wants me to start interning for engineering professors and "getting my foot in the door" in that whole area. I said I tried to get a job at the CD shop and he was like "Well that would be fun, but you need to be doing [what I tell you to do]" so it basically sucked. Apparently I'm almost 20, but I'm not old enough to run my own life yet. It was all over the phone though, I am in AZ and they in CO.

I got banned for a pit thread I posted in.

Bit Torrent for FF7 : Advent Children DVD

It should be out in America very shortly...this better be worth the 2 + year wait.

Is this the whole movie?

Cain 09-12-2005 11:02 PM

You've gotta take in in stride, though. The best way to really **** all over your parents' demands is to actually make progress on your own with the stuff they're telling you to do.

Take this from a multi-tour reluctant-productivity veteran. I NEVER want to get off my *** and do stuff like finding a job myself. But I despise my parents telling me to do it and deciding what it is I will do for me, and how. But in the end it's only 'cause I didn't do it myself in the first place.

As far as social life is concerned, a frat isn't the best way to do it. But I don't understand how interaction with others is a thing to resist.

Pretty sure of it, also the file size is the size of an average movie as well.

I guess at E3 they said sept. 13th would be the release date for it worldwide, but I guess in America it might be delayed another month...

Haha, well I was thinking dropping out might do a better job of it :p (I'm not going to, but it would work better)

See, the thing is I've done a lot to seek out this job they want me to get, the prof's just a graduate professor who's reluctant to hire a sophomore, and I can understand that, but my parents assume I just need to push harder. They're suggesting I find another engineering job, but to be honest, I'm getting this degree because it's free, not because I'm enamored with the topic. Frankly none of the other jobs interest me, and since I don't need a job, I'm not going to go out of my way to get one I don't want.

I know it isn't, but this is him being desperate I think. I'm fine with my social life, my parents are the ones with the issue on it.

munky_magik 09-13-2005 04:49 AM

Oh dear. I can't ake all of my CDs with me in one go so I need to sort out a preliminary lot I can take down with me :(

Bartender 09-13-2005 05:02 AM

That's where an mp3 player or a PC (or both) come in handy. Good luck with that, though :-/ It'll be a difficult task.

munky_magik 09-13-2005 05:05 AM

I have an MP3 player and a laptop. But I don't want to leave my CDs behind...We've become quite close over the years :(

Oh, I see. I thought along those lines for a short while, but it was really impractical to move three hundred CDs down there, so I resolved to just take them in digital form.

munky_magik 09-13-2005 05:14 AM
Can't you get one of those CD book things to put your CDs in without the cases?
Yes, I can. I may well have to resort to that.

That's what my parents have been trying to explain to me for quite some time now.

Argh...I have too many DVDs to take as well :-/

Bartender 09-13-2005 05:19 AM

Hehe, that was a problem too, DVDs. I took down one DVD at first (well, on DVD box, four DVDs; Blackadder series 1-4)..and promptly had no internet and nothing to do except watch Blackadder for six weeks. I watched it far too much, and used the case as a mousepad for a while :-/

After that I transferred the majority of my DVDs down with me, in a couple of black bags. where they took up most of the desk in my room. They were a bastard to take back at the end, though.

That's my main advice to you, in moving in: try and make it so that you take enough to satisfy you, and to fill whoever's car is taking you down there only once. Shuttling back and forth when you have to clear out at the end of the year (or whenever) is greatly annoying.

It seems obvious, but I kept bringing back a couple of extra books or DVDs or something with me back to Leeds whenever I went home for a while, and it made moving back out at the end of the year all the more difficult.

EDIT: Not to mention the stuff you'll actually buy when you're down there :-/

Shadows 09-13-2005 05:25 AM
And you have yet to hear his vocals for Borknagar as well correct?

And that song he did on La Masquerade Infernale was not of his normal vocal styles. The whole song is supposed to give off a crazy feeling, as comparable to The Trial by Pink Floyd in the same sense.

He also did a bunch of backing vocals on the album with Garm, and they are more of a normal style by him. And his vocals in Dimmu Borgir are more operatic then usual and his works in Borknagar are harsh and operatic clean vocals as well.
Nope, never heard Borknagar. Actually, the onlt time I've actually heard him seriously sing was on a leak of Demon Painter live, but that had terrible quality. Maybe I should this stuff out - I may just end up liking the new Arcturus.

Yeah, It makes sense I guess. But there's things like Red Dwarf Series I - VI which is just indispensable. Though I suppose if I took Part Troll it could probably keep me entertained for at least a year. My Brother is only an hour away in Newcastle so I can just dump stuff on him when I move back.
Whether or not I can ever get it back is a different matter. I'll have to appeal to his better nature/girlfriend.

Buying CDs could be a major probem, if I find a decent store.

I'm glad I live at home while going to Uni. :p

You probably will (if not, eBay!).

I (eventually) got into the habit, every time I went back home for a visit (for a birthday, or Christmas, or whatever), of taking whatever CDs I had bought in the time since my last visit and leaving them at home, to avoid having to try and shove them all in the car at the end of the year. This sometimes meant carrying fifty or so CDs around with me in a bag (which was tiring), but was worth it in the end, since the car barely held everything as it was :)

Anyway, good luck with all the moving in. When are you actually going down?

I imagine I'll be able to find CDs from somewhere. I'm going down Saturday. I should probably have started packing before this.

superpeer 09-13-2005 05:43 AM

Home is not so bad, enjoy the chance of being served, later on you'll have to do everything yourself.

I know this, but I'll have to do it sooner or later anyway so I may as well learn now. And I think it's a fair price to pay for living on my own.
And and it'll make coming home really rather pleasant.

EDIT: Wtf? my windowsill has flooded again.

blueyxd 09-13-2005 06:10 AM

Why not just rip all your cd's and make good quality mp3s and burn them as data onto cd-r's or dvd-r's? Theres a lame vbr preset that encodes mp3s that sound as good as cd's to most people.

It's a good backup option just incase something happens to your hard drive, and you can store them in a cd-r spindle which is pretty easy to carry/store/hode. Also, your original cds will be safe at home, hopefully not being used as frisbees by younger brothers and/or visiting cousins.

Whilst being a good idea it has flaws:
1)It would take me forever to do becuase I would probably get bored in the middle of it :-/

2)I prefer to listen to CDs on my CD player as my laptop speakers are awful so having them as data CDs would'nt be great for that.

I am the youngest brother so I'm ahead of the game there.

Maplin's had a 320 CD wallet thing for £9.99 which I got. I was going to get a 256 one, but that was £19.99.

Driving home there was some guy who was tailgating me in front of a Police Car. I think he got rather annoyed as after the Police car left I stuck at 28 mph.

i am the robots 09-13-2005 07:01 AM

Haha, good work on the tailgater.

Also, I am dissapointed, the new Korn song was a major letdown, I wasn't expecting something amazing or anything, but still... wow.

I've downloaded it but have yet to listen to it.

I'm not sure whether I should just randomly put my CDs in the wallet thing or organise the somehow :-/

munky_magik 09-13-2005 08:02 AM
If you're bringing 320 CDs, you might want to organise them a little.
Hmm...you're probably rigt. I think I shall do very loose Genre groupings.

blueyxd 09-13-2005 08:23 AM

Alphabetical - you'll know exactly where each one will be found
Alphabetical - you'll know exactly where each one will be found
That'd probably make more sense, though I don't imagine that it'd stay alphabetical for long. It also makes it easier to deal with bands who've released different genre Albums.

I also just burned my finger on a waffle. This has been an interesting day

Also, does anyone know a good free program for ripping DVD soundtracks?

Taste_My_Scythe 09-13-2005 08:44 AM

On a waffle?
Good morning everyone.
Today is also going to be interesting. Apparently my parents feel the need to have me see a therapist and a psychiatrist. Today I'm going to see the therapist and I must say, I'm not thrilled. I really don't want to go. Maybe I do have some problems, as they say, but nothing I would enjoy talking to people about.

EDIT: What do you mean by DVD Soundtracks?

blueyxd 09-13-2005 08:48 AM

one of these might be good
