Ya, Anyone got a cheap Electric set, or Module, Or Pad to sell? I just wanna have some electrics on the Kit NOw lol.

maniac0796 07-17-2006 01:19 PM

Big dog harware sucks

Josiah 07-17-2006 01:24 PM

So many people on here are always buying or "upgrading" gear. Makes me wonder if they ever actually play or practice.

Gear ain't nothin but marketing. I can't touch Buddy, Tony, or any of those guys. And they had gear that pales in comparison to even low end stuff now.

maniac0796 07-17-2006 01:30 PM

I have £210 to spend.

What shall i buy?

Haha, true dat.

Question about stick breakage I didn't really wanna make a new thread for: I've been told that sticks are "meant" to break at the middle, due to rimshots. I'm fairly sure my technique is steady on the cymbals. Yet, my sticks always break away/split at the top, and I never have any chips in my sticks where I play rimshots. Am I going wrong somewhere or is everything ok?

~~
EDIT (to Maniac0796):How many cowbells do you have on your kit?:thumb:

trysthedrummer 07-17-2006 02:13 PM

You mean like a crack from near the top going down until about half way?

I get chips and whatnot from doing rimshots. Just like that picture Josiah put up ages ago.

Corkofski 07-17-2006 02:22 PM

those splits come from playing tip-on on the hihat. i get them all the time cause i love tip-on.

trysthedrummer 07-17-2006 02:24 PM

That's what happens to me.

Corkofski 07-17-2006 02:28 PM

this vid needs to be shown to ALL n00bs who say "how can i play faster??"

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5246869794001101487&q=Derek+Roddy

LiquidTensionTheatre 07-17-2006 02:41 PM

Yeah my sticks just chip and eventually split near the top. I guess it's due to playing hi-hats with the shoulder of the stick. But I still play a lot of pretty hard rimshots and no damage to the middle of the stick.

Hmm. I think thats the Roddy video I was just watching from another thread. It's basically stating the obvious; if you play repeated strokes on a limb for an extended period of time, that limb is going to strengthen.

Genius.

~~

Corkofski 07-17-2006 03:13 PM

its a different one, where he emphasizes the point, FAST ISNT EVERYTHING!!

LiquidTensionTheatre 07-17-2006 03:21 PM

 it isn't???

Well jee-zus. There goes my philosophy on drums.

Seriously though thats cool, I'll have to watch it when my PC recovers from the Thomas Lang vids it's currently running!

One of my college friends said Roddy has recently really begun to focus on jazz as opposed to his normal styles, don't know how much truth there is in that though.

Got RHCP's new album today. I like a lot. Especially how the whole thing kicks off with a bar of that good ol' hard CS groove :smoke:

Janeway 07-17-2006 06:52 PM

I watched Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2 today.

I didn't like the second one that much. Actually, I didn't like Bellatrix or Bill at all.
They should have just made the movie about the O-Ren/Gogo/Sofie love triangle with Elle as the side fuck for O-Ren, because I think through all of that holier than thou exterior, O-Ren likes to be sexually dominated. Sofie is totally submissive, especially to O-Ren, but I think that Sofie and Gogo would make the cutest couple.
=/

I think I would make good lesbian movies.

If you are using rimshots for backbeats (you should be shouldn't you?) then yes. The stick should be wearing from the middle area out..

If you aren't playing that many rimshots, the stick will most likely break from the shoulder down in some sort of split.

Sunshine 07-17-2006 08:12 PM

I hate American clothes.

They're all ugly =/

Janeway 07-17-2006 09:42 PM

Walk around in lingerie. Most of it's pretty.

Man I hate slash.
There is so much of it it's not even funny. For every 100 slash stories, there is 1 femslash story, and it's written buy a fat geeky guy who hasn't left the computer chair in weeks. How can something that is so totally fricken' icky be so damned popular? =/

Sunshine 07-17-2006 09:46 PM

Haha, I should. It's hot as hell here anyway.

I almost wish I lived in London, just because it seems like all the good rave clothes are over there =/

Janeway 07-17-2006 09:52 PM

Just attatch bungee cords your pants and wear ski goggles a lot.
Extra points for neon sex braclets up to the elbow.

Three cheers for the spammer posting disgusting pictures of himself. Good thing my internet is running slowly and I had time to close the page before the images completely loaded.

Corkofski 07-18-2006 03:29 AM

woo!!

im at my mums school, helping her. she told me to go chuck some stuff in the DT cupboard, so i went and did that. at the back, i saw a kinda familiar shape of a round piece of metal, and went over and pulled it out

imagine my suprise when i found a UFiP 18" crash!!

i went and asked, and noone knows anything about it, so i'm keeping it!

free cymbals ftw!!

EDIT: i have no idea on model, it looks old, feels unusually curved, and has a red logo on top, 18" crash, but on the back has "solid ride" in black??

help on ID, photos when i get home on weds
I want a Dobro. Is it a squareneck?
I don't know exactly what that means, but the back of the neck is rounded. So no?

I'm don't rimshot ALL my backbeats, sometimes it just doesn't feel right. I suppose if I used them all the time, then my sticks would break from the middle.

Hmm Kill Bill. I've only seen one of them. I think the first one. The one which ends with some chinese lady having part of her head cut off or something similar?

PandaDrummer 07-18-2006 10:54 AM

yesterday it was 111 degrees with the humidity.

LiquidTensionTheatre 07-18-2006 10:56 AM

It's rediculously hot here in Wales. I'm working all this week, if we didn't have air con I would kill and eat all my fellow staff members...

fishbulb 07-18-2006 10:57 AM

I know, i had to help my brother move to his new house in san luis obispo, CA. I drove for 3 hours to get there. My dad thought i needed the freeway experience before i got my license.

LiquidTensionTheatre 07-18-2006 11:18 AM

Dude, you drove for 3 hours without a license?

If you tried anything like that around here you'd get jumped on and probably sexually abused by the police. DAMN them. Can't believe the police who shot that brazilian guy 7 times in the head aren't getting charged at all. I think we here in the UK have one of the worst justice systems in the world.

Janeway 07-18-2006 11:26 AM

I was bored, so I decided to make lunch completely one handed.
The sandwich went well, but putting twist ties back in the lettuce and bread bags was hell. I ended up boiling my noodles dry, and they got burned to the bottom of the pan. =/

Now everything stinks.

Futuro 07-18-2006 11:30 AM

How does porcupine tree release 20+ albums and still remain unknown in america?

Janeway 07-18-2006 11:37 AM

http://www.chuckivy.com/LiveMusic/PorcupineTree.jpg

Because Nazi's aren't cool.

LiquidTensionTheatre 07-18-2006 11:45 AM

Because they're called Porcupine Tree?

I quite like them =)

~~

trysthedrummer 07-18-2006 11:51 AM

Mm Porcy Tree are very popular over here in Europe, there is a band over in the US that are very similar to PT, I can't remember their name. Maybe that puts 'em off. :) No, I wouldn't have a clue tbh, not enough air time.

Their most well-known albums are In Absentia onwards, and they've released loads of remastered ones such as "Stupid Dream." An absolute classic. Porcupine Tree's best to date I think.

They're recording their next album for early next year, and their side project "Blackfield" later this year.

edit: Sorry to go off point

yuh, but if you were a police officer who was given the resposibility of stopping any suspicious people, when another terrorist attack could happen anytime soon, i think you'd be a bit trigger happy.

Also, the fact that he didn't stop for the police gave them the right to shoot him. . But what if he was a terrorist with a bomb? Then you wouldn't be bitching about the police and our justice system.

If you want slack law, come down west country. We've got more road than luxembourge in devon, and the police force is like, the smallest in the country.

I agree, I think that policeman acted in the right way- he was forced to do it.
