I believe this was in your other thread, but it's fairy simple - match up the resistances (8ohm amp = 8ohm cab), match wattage on the amp to the power handling on the cabinet.

The only thing you'll have to know about resistances is when you're combining cabinets. For example, two 8ohm cabinets connected together (aka "bridging") have the same resistance as one 4ohm cabinet. Physics dictates that, in this fashion, resistance adds reciprically:

(1/Total Resistance = 1/R1 + 1/R2)

There's a chart of the most common resistances and combinations in your other thread.

I can't tell from your description what the power handling and impedance of your cab needs to be. Your story makes it sound like the cab was under powered or your head was trying to run at 4ohms and it isn't 4 ohm stable.

Can you take a picture of the back of the head so that I can see what you're looking at?

fishbulb 07-20-2009 05:42 PM
SPEAKER OUTPUTS
There are two speaker output jack sockets provided, allowing two speaker cabinets to be
connected to the amplifier. The combined impedance of these speaker cabinets must not be less
than 4 Ohms. Two 8 Ohm cabinets is the ideal load for these amplifiers.
If you are using one 4 Ohm cabinet, then no further speakers can be connected to the
amplifier or the combined impedance will fall below 4 Ohms. If this occurs you will just be
wasting power in heat generated by the output stage and no more volume will be available than
with the single 4 Ohm cabinet.
That says that a single 4 ohm cabinet will run fine although the optimal setup would be two 8 ohm cabinets.

Is the cap/resistor blown up to the point where any numbering/lettering on it is illegible? You might be able to decode the value based on some other numbers, or even the colour, depending on what shape its in/what kind of cap it is.

Mercy me, I quite like the look of this new Ibanez. Spalted maple, ritzy.

FunkMetalBass 07-21-2009 11:07 AM

I never used to be a big fan of spalted or burl maple, but it's really growing on me.

fatbandit 07-21-2009 02:35 PM

I'm becoming a fan of Red Mallee. Jon Shuker's building me a bass with some for the top wood. But I've never seen it used on a bass before. Only for like... ornamental bowls, hah. It is pretty great looking though.

FunkMetalBass 07-21-2009 02:45 PM

Got any pics of the wood?

Also, my new life motto:

Oooh, these are pretty sexy

fatbandit 07-21-2009 03:03 PM

Yeah, they're blanks for making pens from. The piece of wood Jon has is pretty much bass shaped. Its like it was meant to be ;p Hoping I can get some of that lighter coloured wood from round the edge onto it as well :)

FunkMetalBass 07-21-2009 03:16 PM

That's pretty cool. It doesn't look like large sizes with nice grains are easy to come by.

Hahaha. Jeremy Clarkson.

funkyhoney 07-21-2009 04:44 PM

He's all man, baby.

And I'm off to work.

FunkMetalBass 07-21-2009 04:47 PM

PeaCe Out!

Spaceman Spiff 07-21-2009 04:50 PM

I was over an hour late for work today. I guess my unblemished record in the last 6 months, and my fantastic performance, saved my ass.

FunkMetalBass 07-21-2009 04:53 PM

An hour? What happened?

Spaceman Spiff 07-21-2009 04:58 PM
An hour? What happened?
My alarm didn't go off this morning. I have no clue why. I didn't forget to set it... I just don't know what happened.

So I woke up at 9:20 (shift starts at 8:30) to a call from my company saying, "Aren't you supposed to be at work?"

I freaked out, luckily was able to get a drive, and got there at 9:45.

Trevo 07-21-2009 08:39 PM

I showed up 29 minutes late to work this morning, but no one really noticed.

funkyhoney 07-21-2009 08:50 PM

When I rock up late no one really cares, my managers least of all.

"Rock up [to work]" is Aussie slang?

Fair shake of the sauce bottle, mate!

funkyhoney 07-21-2009 09:26 PM

Jack, you're as silly as an arse full of smarties. Stop being such a munted, stroppy brasco ****er and go down like a Thai hooker. Don't get snotty with me because you've got more bullshit terms than you can poke a burnt stick at; I'm sure you're busier than a blue-arse fly watching that porn though. I'll leave you to it, I feel like shitting out a rocking chair.

gaslight 07-21-2009 11:28 PM

I didn't know "rock up" was Aussie slang either. Strewth me warrigal, that's gotta be a furphy.

Efrim 07-21-2009 11:43 PM

I almost vomited when i read this page.
Get yer australia out of my internet.

Also, is it pathetic that I amuse myself by playing Risk II in the evenings because my friends are all gone away?

gaslight 07-21-2009 11:57 PM

Pathetic Scoring

Playing Risk II by yourself = 0 points.
Playing Risk II by yourself, against several versions of yourself = 1 point.
All the versions of you have names = 2 points.
You have laid out snacks for all the versions of yourself = 3 points.
You only eat the ones laid out for the "real" you = 4 points.

Efrim 07-22-2009 12:17 AM

...I didn't eat all day. I played Risk instead. No showering, and wearing a pair of shorts with the crotch on its way to the grave.

I just want some more reassurance. This wouldn't be worrying if it wasn't turning into a habit, what with the exciting possibilities of Tournament mode.

FunkMetalBass 07-22-2009 09:05 AM

"Rock Up" = Aussie. I have no idea what it means in English.

gaslight 07-22-2009 09:16 AM

Oh it's pretty easy, it means "to arrive" but can be loosely interpreted.

"I rocked up late to work and the boss had a spaz."
"Don't rock up to me with that kinda crap."
"What time is Davo rocking up with beers?"

FunkMetalBass 07-22-2009 10:49 AM

"Today I rocked up with a rock-hard erection while rocking out to rock-n-roll."

?

gaslight 07-22-2009 11:01 AM

Yep just missing the FML on the end.

BenJammin 07-22-2009 11:17 AM

Crazy slang.

gaslight 07-22-2009 11:26 AM

I've honestly never thought of "rock up" as Aussie slang but I suppose it must be, unless you're all trying to pull the wool.

Catfish BROnes 07-22-2009 11:27 AM

I've never met an aussie I didn't like.

Granted I've met like 3 of them so...

Go hang out in Steamboat Springs, Colorado during the American winter months (Aussie summer). They're everywhere. I guess the big thing in Australia is to get a summer job in America on the ski slopes.
