Thats what I figured, I changed the strings myself for the first time a couple days ago. I didn't want to try anything new so I just bought 10's.

I'm a horrible player right now anyway (as my tab on the previous page displays) so I'm just trying to keep practicing.
Thats cool, we all start from the bottom...

What are you practicing at the moment?

Dancin' Man 11-17-2004 09:57 PM

Slap is only cool on guitar if it's acoustic (Justin King!!!)

I prefer heavier gauge strings. Anything less than .10 makes it feel like playing cooked spaghetti.

Riva 11-17-2004 09:57 PM
You should hear it on his DVD :thumb:
Gilmour Fanboy ++

Can't believe you, always putting down Delicate Sound Of Thunder.

Slap is fun... but yeah... the tuning gets tedious

i am the robots 11-17-2004 10:00 PM

my tuner doesn't pick up my e string.... so I try not to mess with that one's tuning.

I plan on not sucking soon.

Onto the new topic, Pink Floyd.... who is better Floyd or Yes? me and my friends argue about this every day... it's an even split 2 for yes 2 for pf.

GO YES!

Tune using harmonics. Not always perfect but at least you're in tune with yourself. You could use a tuner for low E then go from there with harmonics.

i am the robots 11-17-2004 10:05 PM

good idea... i guess. ty.

I agree with Eleventeen, Yes owns Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd is awesome.

Yes, Pink Floyd is awesome.

Soooo umm, how 'bout that whether?

Permanent Solution 11-17-2004 10:28 PM

Pink Floyd is better, but Yes is still a superior band.
Thats cool, we all start from the bottom...

I generally never learn other songs. I just kind of look at tabs to understand the way things work (I know, I'm stupid).

I'm going to start with some Velvet Underground stuff though, to work on chord changes. They're relatively simple, and one of my favorite bands so it should be fun.

In terms of technical skill?

Riva 11-17-2004 10:32 PM

She is usually very overcast when she does the weather. If she ever was completely clear, well, I might be in for some showers. :p
In terms of technical skill?
No, I meant in realtion to other bands (as in we are comparing to great bands, and though Pink Floyd is better imo, Yes is still superior to the majority of bands). I think the only aspect Yes might be more technically talented than Pink Floyd is bass.

Indeed? Impressive, though she is Aussie, so I guess probably not :p

Paranoidd 11-17-2004 10:35 PM

Yeah, Chris Squire > Roger Waters for sure.

I think Pink Floyd is a superior band though.

Ah, I didn't put it that way though because I love Water's songwriting, but inasfar as bass skill goes that is true.

Yes...I just wish Yes was more recognized...or maybe not, since recognition=lame fanboys nowadays...

I prefer Waters' songwriting too, but as far as bass playing goes, Squire is far better.

Well, Waters never really considered himself a bassist, I think. He was more of a singer who added the bass lines.

Gilmour v. Howe is a tougher call though, since they are so distinctly different, but I am still a fan of Gilmour's emotional channeling in his playing.

Badmoon 11-17-2004 10:56 PM

Technically, I think Howe easily beats Gilmour.

Paranoidd 11-17-2004 10:56 PM

I'd take gilmour over howe any day.
Technically, I think Howe easily beats Gilmour.
I think technically it may be true, but Yngwie is technically talented too, so that shows what technical talent means...

I think Howe is a great player, especially live, but I still prefer Gilmour's style.

Paranoidd 11-17-2004 11:08 PM

I'd take Gilmour over most, and that includes modern guys.

What he does with a guitar and his ability to write songs never ceases to amaze me.

Bartender 11-18-2004 12:05 AM

I think Pink Floyd just supplanted pizza as the longest running topic on discussion in here.

Permanent Solution 11-18-2004 12:06 AM

Pinapple is good on Pizza.
