This "dirtwreck" character just doesn't get it does he?

munky_magik 03-01-2005 02:31 PM

I can't remember if he's an actual legit poster, but if he signed up to advertise he won't really care.

same guy again. Time to reach for the ban stick?

Can something be done about This guy please?

If nothing else his constant ownage by the swear filter is starting to get annoying.
We are dealing with someone who has roughly the same intellectual level as a male orangutang with dubious personal hygiene.

3074326 03-01-2005 02:54 PM

I banned him.

munky_magik 03-01-2005 02:56 PM

Much appreciated :)

3074326 03-01-2005 03:16 PM

Yeah, that user was an idiot..

SonorKen 03-01-2005 03:54 PM

The forum is heading back to crap again. Everyone PLEASE go re-read the rules, Im tired of the spam in threads, Im gonna start banning people for goofy spam posts.

Kingofdudes 03-01-2005 03:56 PM
The forum is heading back to crap again.
I am actually starting to enjoy things around here more.

SonorKen 03-01-2005 03:58 PM

^^^ hahaha well, the thing that gets me is when I look into a thread and see 30 spam posts, smilies, 123, all that crap.

Josh 03-01-2005 04:10 PM

ken, i dont know if this has been said lately but your avatar is still distorted. :thumb:

Steerpike 03-01-2005 06:10 PM

Okay, I've never done this before, but there's a first time for everything. Would it be possible to contact MX and have him IP ban DroneMaster?

The little flame war with this guy started out amusing, but Bartender called for a ceasefire so I put him on my ignore list. Now he's on a ten-day ban and keeps coming back with new accounts to spam the thread and continue trash-talking me. I feel like I'm being stalked and I'm getting sick of clicking the ignore button.

Normally, I'd just continue ignoring him, but no matter how many times he gets banned, he comes back with a new account to continue aggravating me or whoever else told him he's being a troll. It's obvious this guy has absolutely no interest in doing anything constructive around here, he's just an immature brat who harasses anyone who talks back to him.

Again, I wouldn't normally do this, but please can we IP ban him? You can see all of his various dummy accounts and personal attacks in the metal genres thread started by LegionsofMarduk.

Bartender 03-01-2005 06:15 PM

I upped his two week ban (for carrying on with the argument) to permanent after his third re-signing up.

Steerpike 03-01-2005 06:19 PM

So I guess for now I should just keep sticking his new accounts on ignore until he gets bored.

He is by far the worst troll I've ever seen. What he lacks in wit and inflamatory vocabulary, he makes up for in dogged determination.

Addicted2MyGuitar 03-01-2005 06:34 PM

The links to these forums from MX tabs don't work.

Here's an example: the link for "Well Educated Musicians" is "http://www.musicianforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=308714&styleid=17", but it should be "http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=308714&styleid=17"

All the links lack "forums/" so whenever I click them Internet Explorer flips out.

I know this forum is generally about problems and suggestions for R&M forums, but I did not know where else to report this.

Thanks.

Bartender 03-01-2005 06:43 PM

The Site forum, is where things like that should go. Give me a second, I'll experiment.

EDIT: never mind, thread's too big to split. You'll have to just go and repost it there :)

SonorKen 03-01-2005 09:15 PM

Just to bring some of you up to date on something that might be happening soon, it looks like REP is going to be taken out of the forum soon. Im all for getting rid of it, just wanted some of your opinions on it.

Riva 03-01-2005 09:24 PM

It really is more of a circle jerk than anything. Although it is kinda neat to have 4 stars, almost every regular has them by now, so it is next to useless in identifying good users.

SonorKen 03-01-2005 09:33 PM

yea, the initial idea was to reward good users, now it is a popularity contest. I would have liked to have seen the rep be mod assigned or something maybe.

SonorKen 03-01-2005 09:34 PM
ken, i dont know if this has been said lately but your avatar is still distorted. :thumb:
Is it straightened out now?

3074326 03-01-2005 09:53 PM

Avatar looks good Ken. :)

I think the removal of rep will inprove the general quality of the forum. Postcount will matter more like it used to, but it was better that way.

Permanent Solution 03-01-2005 10:19 PM

I still have a high postcount, so sounds good ;)

I think mods-only rep would have been a better system, but no system is perfect, it got abused here so, it's pretty meaningless.

BoboTheRagingHobo 03-01-2005 10:19 PM
It really is more of a circle jerk than anything. Although it is kinda neat to have 4 stars, almost every regular has them by now, so it is next to useless in identifying good users.
Jason here said all my thoughts.

Pretty pointless if every member has stars, is it not?

SonorKen 03-01-2005 10:26 PM

yea, I agree. I think if only moderators could assign rep it may have worked. That way only people who actually DO good things are the ones rewarded.

Permanent Solution 03-01-2005 10:49 PM

Of course the problem there being mods aren't omniscient and so some good users would be overlooked, but, like I said, there's no perfect way.

Bartender 03-01-2005 10:56 PM

Alternatively, do the opposite, and make it even less serious. It'll never be taken seriously, just because no system ever will, and I think most people just think of it as a bit of fun anyway.

SonorKen 03-01-2005 11:07 PM
Of course the problem there being mods aren't omniscient and so some good users would be overlooked, but, like I said, there's no perfect way.
well, I agree with that. But, the mods would have to step up and really try to notice all the good users, not just the ones who post up problem links and users. A good example would be someone like PIGS. I don't remember him reporting any bad users or posters, that doesnt make him a bad user, his posts are informative, he helps out by starting the music sharing program, and all in all is a good guy. I would positvely rep him as well as the majority of you guys.

munky_magik 03-02-2005 03:21 AM

The only thing rep is useful for is as a kind of PM service, so I wouldn't mind seeing it stay for that. Other than that it's pretty useless.

Kingofdudes 03-02-2005 06:49 AM

There goes Anti-Hero's gimmick

Josh 03-02-2005 06:56 AM

the thing about rep is that if someone says something in a thread a lot of people dont like, they derep simply because they can, and that person gets negged badly because of their own opinion. but please keep rep for a while.....until i have 1000 posts, then i get stars :thumb: lol
EDIT:
and due to all the threads being needlessly created, could it not be sorted that you can't create threads until you have a certain post count, rather than just having to wait 24 hours after registering to be able to post? i would have said this in HeavyRiva's thread about making threads, but i wanted to make sure mods would see it.

munky_magik 03-02-2005 07:37 AM

The thing is, if you have requirments before you can post a thread then you're just going to get an awful lot of spam posts from people who just want to post threads.
Even then, you'll still get people who post bad threads.

I think that's an awseome idea - I haven't been posting long, but I've been reading this forum for a while, and I soon got sick of the idots signing up just to post one useless thread, which this would certainly cut down on. The only problem is that people might just spam up the boards to bump up their post count, then we'd be stuck with spam and rubbish threads.

Edit: Munky got there first....

Atreyu are metalcore, though.

:-/

He asked again?

munky_magik 03-02-2005 11:22 AM

Yep
Also, since you seem to be on a roll you could update the Favourite Album section in the rules thread with the results :)
