That pisses me off so much!

Darkness 08-30-2005 11:30 PM

Yes, big waste of talent. Watch them start to display their talent, and blow Dream Theater away.

Blizzink 08-30-2005 11:34 PM

I bought Ghost Reveries today and I'm really enjoying it. The vocal ranges and instrumental ones are both great.

Whoa... that's going a bit far, lol.

I got the new Opeth album today and I've been listening to it all day long. It is so friggin' good.

Deth 08-31-2005 06:28 AM

I listened to it 4 times last night. That's a long time.

cos you know that i can 08-31-2005 07:38 AM

If all goes well and I convince my parents to let me use their credit card and go on a schoolnight, I should be seeing Opeth in November :)

I only have Still Life though, and was wondering whether I should go for the new Ghost Reveries, or one of their older albums for my next purchase. Any ideas?

bball_1523 08-31-2005 07:49 AM

I basically took a month off from reading this opeth thread and other opeth related forums/discussions because "Ghost Reveries" was leaked and I did not want to be spoiled period, other than what Roadrunner had officially released (2 tracks). And it has PAID OFF big time.

So I went around my town for 4 different stores looking for the lowest price and got it for $14.99. Oh man, the first listen to Ghost Reveries, and I AM ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY! Every song has something good about it.

So far my favorite is "The Baying Of The Hounds," It has very nice progressions and melodies, and the ending asbolutely RULES.

When I first heard The Grand Conjuration, I was a bit disappointed because of the repetitive riffs and basically the same mood throughout the entire 10 min, but after listening to "Ghost Of Perdition," I had a lot of hope for this album and it has come true! Thank you Opeth for making amazing music! I look forward to listening to this album a billion times in the coming weeks. I highly suggest you guys purchase this if you haven't.

I do it quite often actually :thumb:

They make some great music to fall asleep to, as does Porcupine Tree if you're into them.

Prince of Darkness 08-31-2005 09:26 AM

Opeth really cater to falling asleep music. Try Pink Floyd for that aswell. My PC is next to my bed(with the speaker next to my head at night). I put on Pink Floyd. The whole discography.twice. But When I woke up. It still had a while to go.

In absentina is a GREAT album to fall alseep to.

Prince of Darkness 08-31-2005 09:52 AM

I haven't really heard any Porcupine Tree. Am I missing out? I've heard one song. It was quite pop-ish

repcak 08-31-2005 10:04 AM

is it only a hype that the now opeth album is so amazing or is it true? cause when it's true i think i'm gonna buy it
is there any booklet in the cd or only the cd?

Special Brew 08-31-2005 10:11 AM

It's true. It is a bit different than their odler stuff though. There is the standard CD cover booklet with the lyrics and such printed, but that's it.
I haven't really heard any Porcupine Tree. Am I missing out? I've heard one song. It was quite pop-ish
They range from pooppish to almost metal. They never sound the same twice. If you don't like poppy stuff, you may not like very much by them. They tend to add a bit of poppiness into most tracks.

They are definetly worth getting into.

The Brad 08-31-2005 11:37 AM

The band's website says that they are planning on releasing a deluxe edition of this album with some extra tracks, so those of you who haven't bought it may want to hold off- but it could take 6-months to a year like it did with Blackwater Park

What was that? Some of it could be said to be pop-ish, but others very trippy. I recemmend the In Absentia album. Deffinatly check it out.

The Flabbit Rides High 08-31-2005 11:44 AM

Strange though...this Dredg is growing on me!

Mr Benners 08-31-2005 01:27 PM

So.... after having listened to Ghost Reveries at least 6 times now, I can safely say WOW THIS ALBUM IS GREAT!

The first few listens I thought, yeah this is good, but I wasn't entirely convinced. However, partway through my third listen something just clicked. Everything is just so right, and this album also seems very progressive.

Akerfeldt's voice, both clean and growled, is superb on this album.

Whether this stands up to Blackwater Park (my personal favourite) only time will tell, but it definitely has a chance.

[the more i'm sitting in front of my computer on this forum, the more i discover great bands]

Iron Man 08-31-2005 03:05 PM

I puchased t3h Ghost Reveries like an hour ago. Just finishing my first time through it, it's great stuff but like all the others I have to give it time to click.

It was on the endcaps and on sale for less than $15, so I guess Roadrunner does some good.

Deth 08-31-2005 03:08 PM

I got it for $12, so my bargain beats your bargain.

Iron Man 08-31-2005 03:11 PM
I got it for $12, so my bargain beats your bargain.
It's the only CD store around my place with a decent selection of metal. Most CDs I buy from the place are $18 (wallet rape), so $14-something is a nice deal for me.

Darkness 08-31-2005 03:13 PM

I got mine for $4.95 (Canadain). How? I got one of those stamp guards and got 10 bucks off. :D

Wow, probably would have been $4 flat US, I woulda killed for that deal...although these guys are definitely worth my moneys
