For BGs drummer, do you mean Stauch?
Hell, I'll download it anyway... |
For BGs drummer, do you mean Stauch?
Hell, I'll download it anyway...
Yep, he is no longer in BG... The other guys are still in their bands.. I think it is actually guitarist from Persuader playing bass in Savage Circus... |
How does the new Galloglas album compare to the old one? I really like Legends from now and nevermore but since my buget has shrunk to near zero latey I haven't been able to get it yet.
The new one is heavier, but I feel it is less flowing. Both excellent efforts though. |
Savage Circus sound exactly like early Blind Guardian. Damn, even the vocalist sounds exactly like Hansi. Excuse me but I really dont see the point in this band. :(
|
It's so frustrating for me to hear Savage Circus.
On one hand, if I'd never heard Blind Guardian at all, I'd be absolutely soiling my shorts over them - I'm not a massive fan of the new direction BG has taken, to be honest, and I absolutely love their older stuff, so any band who plays that kind of music is gonna make me jump up and down and smile... On the other hand, since I HAVE heard BG before, I can hear entire sections on the SC album which are directly taken from BG albums, so much so that I've found that I'll sit there trying to match up the part it was stolen from rather than enjoying it for what it is. I reallly hope the next album has more of their own identity rather than BG's identity from 1992... |
The Lord has spoken \m/
|
I like the new direction :(.
Anyway, I was wondering what the first power metal album was. My guess is Manowar's Battle Hymns, but if a more knowledgable person here could tell me, I would appreciate it. |
I like the new direction :(.
Me too. I want to know what the ressemblance between old BG and that band is...i'll look into 1 or 2 songs. Eventualy... |
If the new direction means A Night At The Opera, then I don't like it. :)
|
I dunno... BG to me was always Tales.. and Somewhere Far Beyond - when I heard Journey Through The Dark for the first time, I nearly fell off my chair. ****ing. Awesome.
I admire what they're trying to do and it's certainly impressive, no doubt, but it just hasn't got the fire and power of old BG for me. Each to their own, though! :) |
Hey Tim, I remember seeing something about this on the Dungeon/Lord forums...
Around here, regardless of whether the support band is good or bad, people just stand there with their arms crossed, if they even did show up for their set. It must be SO awkward to play in conditions like that :/
Whats your view on it? I remember when I saw Dungeon (there was about 60-80 people there) but most people were standing around, drinking untill you came on. This was at screamers with Anarion and P: DD |
HAHA!
We haven't had a set of people doing that since we first started to play in Sydney and yeah, it sucks. You have to work 3 times as hard to win them over... and sometimes, there's nothing you can do. Oh, actually... I forgot about our gig immediately after we left the Megadeth tour in Europe. Instead of continuing on with 'Deth to Thesoloniki in Greece, we returned to Germany to repay a favour to a band called Gun Barrell who lent us some gear when we played one of the German dates with Megadeth. What we DIDN'T know was that it was being held in a junior school hall and there was a crowd of about 20 people all up... and we had all of 6 people standing there watching us (who had no idea who we were) with their arms crossed waiting for Gun Barrell to come on - turns out they were friends and relatives of the band and we were just holding up the night for them! *sigh* (Before anyone gets the wrong idea, Gun Barrell are AWESOME guys and they do some pretty cool stuff, so I'm definitely not ragging on them!) Yeah, so after a week of playing to 15,000+ people, playing to 6 bored people the very next night sucked a very big unwashed ***! HAHA! I do feel bad for some of the supports Dungeon's had over the last few years. Some of the crowds we got were often pretty biased towards us and didn't want to give the openers a go. Some bands deserved it, though (some bands were pretty terrible on some bills), but others I felt really bad for. Thankfully that was more the exception than the rule... |
^haha, heavy metal stories! :D
To be honest I expected you to say that Dungeon were not treated good enough in Greece as well since people here were pissed because of christian Mustaine demanding the cancellation of Rotting Christ's appearance. I dont know why but I thought Dungeon were some sort of christian metal band
I dunno... I'M ON MY JOURNEY THROUGH THE DAAARK I'M ON MY JOURNEY THROUGH THE DAAARK!!!!! \m/ |
I think the only song from Somewhere Far Beyond that I heard is Ashes to Ashes. I pretty much only remember the chorus though.
But in an HMV, last time I went it was there, and I realy wanted to get it...I was short a lil on money :( NP Blind Guardian - Into the Storm |
Journey Through The Dark is the best song on SFB, I think...
I dunno, though, I love BG's new direction. ANATO is seriously one of the best cds I've ever heard...it's full of what makes Blind Guardian great, and adds so much more. Then again, I'm a sucker for orchestrated metal music. |

Then again, I'm a sucker for orchestrated metal music.
This for me depends. In some cases, the orchestra adds so much more and makes it better, and in others the orchestra is cheesy sounding and I dont realy like it. Example of cheesy sounding orchestra: In Stratovarious' Elements Part 1. The orchestra is very cheey IMO. As for ANATO, the lyrics may be cheesy, I have never realy looked at the lyrcis so I dont know, but the orchestra is not cheesy IMO. Maybe a tiny bit but its definatly not overboard. It adds to the music in a good way. NP Blind Guardian - Blood Tears |

I miss the orchestral effects, though they were still used in Heavenseeker they pushed it into the background rather than having it upfront like it was in songs like 'Ancient times' and 'A Wintertale' NP - Dawn of a new age (got to be one of the best tracks from heavenseeker) |

HAHA! No, we weren't! :p And quite the opposite, Dave was awesome to everyone (us, his band, his crew and above all, the fans) for the entire time we were with them. Don't believe the media hype, he's actually a fairly down to earth guy when he's not being "Dave" (which is expected of him to a certain degree). And his beliefs never came into anything at all on the tour at all. He did his thing and provided you kept your thing away from him if it wasn't what he was into, everyone was cool (and we were the same - we didn't like anyone smoking in our band rooms 'cos it screwed with my voice. No one cared if they did, just do it elsewhere). But yeah, in Greece we were treated awesome (like everywhere on the tour with Megadeth, in fact). We got picked up by a comfy air conditioned bus and shuttled to Megadeth's 5-star hotel, shuttled to the Olympic Volleyball Stadium where the gig was, had massive catering... The crowd was awesome (at least 3000 there, I believe the count was) and we talked to lots of people after the show too... the only crap thing was that we had such a short time there, we couldn't go sight seeing and we were so close to all of the cool stuff we wanted to see in Athens too. :( |
So tim would you say that Air conditioned bus was better than the van that Dungeon got shipped about in when you guys toured japan?
|
Van? Try Matchbox car! :(
Yes. Just a tad...! :amaze: |
Yes I am excited. We might get to end up playing Rhaposody's Dawn of Victory of school. See I am the only one at school who really likes metal other than the greats and I have this mate at school who is possible the funniest guy you could meet. And he has an awesome voice not just singing but at imatating voices. He was into a little bit of thrash etc (just the greats and some Morbid Angel and Vader etc) back in the day and really likes alot of metal and rock etc. He is often really good to give music because he will really like anything good in metal that I show him because in his words as long as the tunes are kicking he is happy. Well I showed him Rhapsody as a joke and he pissed pants laughing at how cheesy they were but true to his spirit just enjoyed the cheese (unlike other fag*ots) and said the tunes were rocking. I didn't think I had made a power convert but surley guy who enjoyed for a laugh and a good time pretending to fight dragons. Then he turned to me last night and let out the best Rhapsody impression I have ever heard! He was power metal in that moment \m/ He said we should play some for some good fun. We will dress up and rock out hahaha. (sorry if this story was pointless I was just excited that we might play some great metal!)
|
Haha, that would be really cool to play a rhapsody song :p
If only I could sing :/ |
well done dommie \m/ :D

People in the BG forum seem to be loving it : http://www.blind-guardian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26375 |
Not only people in the BG forum. Still, it's their opinion. I'm with what Timmy said.
|

While I'm thinking of it, anybody seen the video to Edguy's Superheroes yet? It makes no sense, but that just makes it even better.
|
I'll watch that video now and edit my thoughts in soon.
OMG, that video totally owns. I really don't have any other thoughts about it except it's freaking awesome. |
Power metal trading, anyone? :)

I'm terribly sorry -I dont mean to offend you Alex- but this is an awful poppy video and song. Such a shame because Tobias's voice is at its best. :(
|
Can't please everybody.
|
I do have to say though, I was disappointed with the song.
