good lad haz 3rd annual report and heathen earth are soooo good. you enjoyin em?

Meatplow 08-25-2010 09:55 AM

haven't listened yet on average it takes me about 3 months to get to albums people have recommended me or that I actually want to listen to :p

I want to work through the discographies of all the industrial records artists though

IAJP 08-25-2010 09:57 AM

also tubular bells is an album by mike oldfield. it's odd because it's blatantly prog as fuck but doesn't seem pretentious or wanky at all, it's just really good. he is annoyingly talented tbh. i also dont know if this is the TB in question, if it is not and i've just embarrassed myself by stating the absolute obvious - i apologise :upset:

IAJP 08-25-2010 09:58 AM

you'll go insane if you listen to all of the industrial records..something about that shit that's so evil for some reason, i do love it but i gotta lotta rep for cab voltaire and the more synthy industrial dudes..TG are the root of evil though haha. destroyers of civilisation.

so absolutely nothing like the minimal techno I asked for amirite (i'll probably still listen to it though)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaUuCXuBtTUp

I find this sort of stuff rather pretty, early Aphex Twin was a bit like this if I remember correctly

yeah it's pretty deviant stuff

synth pop industrial is cool

IAJP 08-25-2010 10:03 AM

yeah it's not hugely minimal techno. one of the parts of it is the theme from the excorcist so that's some view as to what it's like..

if you're looking for nice kinda electronic music like that check out early autechre, that fuse track is great though.

Meatplow 08-25-2010 10:05 AM

yeah i've heard just about every Autechre release (haven't listened to the new one), i'll always have a soft spot for Incunabula, Amber and Tri Repeatae

just brilliant stuff

should probably listen to the rest of these

Mardy 08-27-2010 11:07 AM

One of my friend's having his birthday soon, and when his girlfriend asked me for what she should give him, I first told her Woob "1194", but since I reckon he's into the more darker side of ambient, I changed my mind and told her to get Aphex Twin "Selected Ambient Works Vol. II". It's really expensive on vinyl, so I didn't expect her to buy it, but she did! She even bought the rare black vinyl edition. He's gonna love it, and I can't wait to hear it on LP. It's funny though, that IMO the most beautiful track only exists on the vinyl (the 'Stone in Focus' one) and no where else, except on the N3tz.

Txus 08-27-2010 11:08 AM
the rare black vinyl edition
holy shit, how much was that? i have the normal one :(

Mardy 08-27-2010 11:15 AM

I think she paid 79,5£ with delivery, about 123$ I guess. What does the normal one cost?

Txus 08-27-2010 11:21 AM

Yeah, that's pretty damn expensive. I guess it's worth it considering its Aphex best album to date (imo)

I have the brown vinyl issue and that was hmmm about 50-60$? I don't remember but i didn't pay more than 100 for it.

Mardy 08-27-2010 11:25 AM

It's fun to own rare stuff, but is the sound quality really that different between the brown and the black edition?

Txus 08-27-2010 11:32 AM

i haven't heard the black edition but i doubt it changes that much

Mardy 08-27-2010 11:36 AM
i haven't heard the black edition but i doubt it changes that much
I doubt it too, but he he, but that's what they say on the internet :) but nevermind, it's RARE!

Txus 08-27-2010 11:44 AM

hah, yeah.

you seem to have a neat taste (so far :p), you should come back more often, haha

Mardy 08-27-2010 11:51 AM

lol thanks. I'm really into ambient for the moment. I got a hold on some Brian Eno stuff, which I havent dwelled into yet (Ambient 2 & 4) and some compilation stuff, w/dark ambient. I really like Lustmord too, I think his song "Black Star" represents evil as it is, was and will be. And of course, that Woob album, 1194.

One of my friends suggested me this, maybe you'll like it. Really minimalistic: http://typerecords.com/releases/permafrost-2-2

Txus 08-27-2010 11:55 AM

I'm a big Thomas Köner fan :)

Permafrost is a good album but I prefer La Barca (that's his masterpiece imo)

But I haven't heard that Lustmord song you mentioned, in which album does it appear?

Mardy 08-27-2010 12:04 PM

I'll try La Barca then :)

The song appears on the compilation "Purifying Fire". That album is a sort of a remix/mashups of some other songs he has released before. 'Black Star' is a favourite, but the whole album is worth a listen. I think that song is a remix of Heresy, or so to speak.

Txus 08-27-2010 12:09 PM

I'm going to get that, thanks. I used to have a bunch of Lustmord albums but my old HD got completely ruined and I lost everything and since that incident I haven't re-downloaded his stuff. I just have his collab album with Melvins which is fantastic.

Mardy 08-27-2010 12:30 PM

Oh yeah, what is that album called? I've just started to get into Melvins. My friend (the one with Aphex Twin) transferred "Stag", "Nude with Boots", "Houdini" (and that live edition) and "Stoner Witch" to my ipod a week ago, and I've just bought Houdini on cd.
They kick ass.

Here's Black Star, if you want to hear it: http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Black+Star/2VPbZg

Txus 08-27-2010 12:42 PM

Thanks dude, much appreciated.

and the album is called pigs of the roman empire
