Can you guys rec me some "epic" sounding heavy/power metal with an 80's kind of sound and vocals that aren't super gay?
Manilla Road. Vocals can be a bit peculiar but they're far from super gay, I'd say.

illmitch 06-18-2012 12:38 PM

fuck yeah manilla road

also try Brocas Helm, Omen, Attacker, old Jag Panzer

you could also look into NWOBHM like Satan, Atomkraft, Jaguar, Tank, etc

Morumbar 06-18-2012 12:48 PM

Cheers, dudes. I've heard a song or two from Manilla Road on Youtube before, but never looked into them. Same goes for Jag Panzer, I suppose.

Will check these out.

illmitch 06-18-2012 12:49 PM

Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction is elite as fuck

Morumbar 06-18-2012 01:21 PM

Sounds good.

Just realised I'd come across most of these and more in the same vein in this article a month or so ago:

Think I'm just gonna go delve into USPM for a while.

illmitch 06-18-2012 01:45 PM

yeah that list is excellent

christsimpson 06-19-2012 05:42 AM

only slightly on topic but Manilla Road are amazing, especially Crystal Logic.

joeker19lc 07-28-2012 01:34 PM

Give Us Your Bones is a really new band with a free EP on bandcamp. They're all nice dudes too. It's kind of like At The Drive-In mixed with post-rock and some pop-punk, i know that makes no sense.

kitsch 07-28-2012 08:50 PM
I'm looking for more ambient/dark noise stuff similar to Tim Hecker and SoiSong.
dante augustus scarlatti

you wont be disappoint

HighandDriving 07-28-2012 09:14 PM

Kitsch, fuck you and think of a good american post-punk revival band to rec me, please.

kitsch 08-16-2012 05:46 PM

Shit dude i keep forgetting to go thru my stuff

Anyone got recs for old skool stuff that sounds like absolute body control

all local group around my towns 1track off debut album

ava1enzue1a 09-19-2012 11:06 AM

Needing recs for some good post-rock albums. I like dreamy, emotional stuff with ambient and shoegaze elements akin to Hammock's "Chasing After Shadows...Living With The Ghosts" or port-royal's "Flares". Anyone know of any others like these? Thanks.

new band 'wings of pegasus'

Just discovered these guys on youtube, just released their first single. They're an underground band from London, probably hard rock/metal? Hard to define!?

Tyler 09-21-2012 07:52 AM

you're bad at this. if you're going to spam at least include a link.

The Best Guitar Riff Ever made

I would recommend that everyone check out this song, if only for the amazing guitar riff that the guitarist plays. The intro and outro are pretty sweet as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtOfytgMRqY

The song is called 'The Jester' and the band is called 'Ghost Playground'.

Temple - On The Steps Of The Temple (Instrumental Death, Black and Doom Metal band from Arizona)

"Temple's brooding debut instrumental release "On The Steps Of The Temple" is 53 minutes of towering riffs, crushing drums and compositions that explore many different territories while keeping it's roots deep in heaviness."

Active Child (Ancient Eye, Shield & Sword, Wilderness)
Katatonia (Stuff off of Night is the New Day)
Anathema (Stuff off of Natural Disaster)
Bon Iver, kind of, especially For emma, forever ago

Sans definite song structure, check out How To Dress Well

Hopefully that helps
Kind of an open-ended request, but can anyone recommend me really dark sounding music, does not have to be metal-based. Looking for stuff with identifiable song structures, meaning traditional frameworks. Maybe something with folk, pop or electronic touches.
I've been really enjoying Foxygen, The Black Angels, and Tame Impala lately, and I'd like to hear some more bands that bring psychedelic rock into this generation. Any suggestions?

paulmenley 10-15-2012 06:32 AM

Great list!

Ghosts Of Jupiter. Very much a retro, 70's type vibe with some modern elements thrown in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jfcpRUYND4

facupm 12-15-2012 05:27 PM

i'll take your list into account

Conorman11 12-30-2012 09:11 PM

We Hunt Buffalo. They're synthy-stoner rock/metal.
http://wehuntbuffalo.bandcamp.com/album/we-hunt-buffalo
I like them, specially the first 3 songs off their album.

Eh probably my only suggestion.

Mobious1 01-11-2013 07:16 AM

Some new comers out of Boston: Autocatalytica. Definitely worth a listen.
