Ive heard that neurosis sounds like cult of luna. Ive seen cult of luna and tv and didnt like em, so do you think i would like pelican, isis, otr nuerosis. Also what derek trucks, zz top and muddy waters cds. and albums to get into Sonata Arctica and blind gaurdian. sorry for spelling errors. Thanks
For sonata go with Silence and for Blind Guardian go for Imaginations from the Other Side.....and for the cult of luna question...well it's all a matter of trying each band....pelican are like cult of luna without vocals.....isis are like cult of luna with less hardcore vocals and more growled style one's....the same for neurosis.

Can someone recommend some good songs by Mayhem?

Thanks

Danger Bird 11-22-2005 11:28 PM

Can somebody recommend a song that sounds like The End by The Doors? You know that kind of spacey, lost in the desert kind of sound.

Pure Fucking Armageddon
Freezing Moon
Funeral Fog
Pagan Fears
Buried By Time And Dust
Necrolust

You should probably just buy either Live In Leipzig or De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.

Ok, here's a toughy. Bands/songs with lyrics in swedish that are not pop stuff. I already know about Finntroll.

Also, my earlier question: I have "The Dreadful Hours" by My Dying Bride and really enjoy it; what are some suggestions of other albums I would like. (from MBD or other bands)

Bartender 11-23-2005 09:15 AM

I think The Angel and the Dark River and Turn Loose the Swans are favoured MDB albums. As for stuff from other bands, you might like Forest of Shadows' Where Dreams Turn To Dust EP.

what Bartender said.
you can also check out the new Forest Of shadows full length called Departure, it's good stuff.

Bartender 11-23-2005 09:47 AM

!

I didn't know they had a full-length. Might have to buy that.

it's pretty good stuff.
the dude continued as a one-man's band.
good melodies often loops, making for a nice hypnotic sound.
the only downside is, in the soft parts you can really hear it's a drum machine :(

I can hook you up with a song if you want.

Can the lyrics be in finnish? Finntroll isn't Swedish, the first four letters of their name are the first four letters of their country.

Finnish bands with vocals in finnish:

Arkona
Hollenthon
Ulver (Not metal, just folk, but great stuff nonetheless.)

Yeah, if you get the time, that'd be good. I'm not in a hurry, though.

not metal?
early Ulver was very metal, after that folk, and now electronica.
but Ulver was certainly metal at one phase.

great band though :)

bartender: I'm uplaoding a FoS song now, I hope YSI won't screw up..

Hollenthon are from Austria and have English lyrics dude.

And I believe that Finntroll does have Swedish lyrics because Katla is part of the Swedish speaking minority in Finnland. Absurd eh?

BryanJ 11-26-2005 02:13 PM

bump.
Any luck with the bands with Swedish lyrics?

Yeah, Finntroll has Swedish lyrics; Finnish and Swedish are very different. I guess I could take Norwegian but that would probably just be Black Metal.

early Dimmu Borgir has Norsk lyrics
Husfa by Arcturus has Norsk lyrics too

that's all I can think of now, and none of them are really black metal either

Can someone recommend me a band similar to Spiral Architect?

Bartender 11-26-2005 05:00 PM

Watchtower. Similar from the incredible technicality all the way down to the terrible vocals.

If you want an album then go with Painkiller.

penelope_weird_hands 11-27-2005 10:05 AM

can anyone recommend some acoustic bands or artists?

don't have to be primarily acoustic.. mainly melodic stuff relative to that of soft opeth, ben harper, nick drake, jose gonzalez, damien rice, the john butler trio, joe pass..etc.

thanking y'all.
nice thread.

Iron Bars 11-27-2005 10:20 AM

Kveldssanger from Ulver. Just one guy with a guitar and some background symphony.

Not Hollenthon's Doomus Mundi album.

And I didn't know that Ulver had any other albums out. But I got some of their earlier stuff and they are most certainly black metal! (were)

Jacaranda 11-27-2005 01:07 PM
Iron & Wine
Tom McRae
Jeff Buckley
Ryan Adams
Bruce Springsteen (Nebraska style)
Gemma Hayes
Elliott Smith
Just to add to that list John Frusciantes solo work, more so Curtians.
