because he's intelligent and thought provoking? or a great writer? or because he makes catchy music? i mean they are all pretty terrible offenses...
18 year old tom gabel would hate the 24 year old tome gabel
I think the same could be said for me, or most people involved in the punk scene.

obese_breasts 12-15-2007 09:53 PM

15 year old me would seriously question my music tastes currently

Flagjacket 12-16-2007 09:09 AM

Yeah and five years from now the five years older you will probably think lowly of the you now. It's called growing up and changing.

Anarcho Poser 12-16-2007 09:44 AM

who cares, honestly.

my friend is a big foo fighters fan, so we're going. it will be good times with good people.
i hope you hit this stage some day.
lol I hope you reach the stage where everyone stops thinking you're a fag.

And you dedicate yourself to ska, which is a genre of music that's found it's most long term impact in the format of theme music for children's TV shows. What growing up have you done?
Liking Sage Francis really should be a punishable offense.
lol i agree. he may be a good song writer (i dont see it), but come on a fat white rapper out from the ghettos of rhode island is laughable thing.

Flagjacket 12-16-2007 06:52 PM

Sage Francis has about as much to do with hip-hop or listenable music in general as rolling pins have to do with spaceships.

i've beat down some pretty big spaceships with my rolling pin...

what kids tv shows have a ska theme? i'm intrigued...
thanks though, i love when people respond with 'yea well your a fag' and the like because it means i win.

Keep telling yourself all this, I didn't call you a fag I echoed popular sentiment.

I don't like Sage Frances, but what does his background have to do with not thinking he's legit? If he were presenting himself as a gangsta it'd be one thing, but he doesn't. I think rap stopped being an artform restricted to Blacks or people from the ghetto a long time ago.

I back what you said hip-hop is for people of all races and backgrounds but if you'll take a look at Sage Francis and the people he runs with all of them suck. And the thing they have in common is that they're either white or from like, Minneapolis.

AndreTheHyena 12-16-2007 09:46 PM

Yeah, I agree that Sage Frances sucks, but it's not just because he's white or from Rhode Island, as that dude was insinuating.

asdf 12-16-2007 09:58 PM

I've heard worse than Sage Francis. But he's nothing I would go out of my way to listen to.

Flagjacket 12-17-2007 06:44 AM
white or from Rhode Island
Well that's not exactly a recipe for success in any facet of life.

What's wrong with mpls?

Flagjacket 12-17-2007 11:42 AM

Well Minneapolis has never produced a good rapper. Plus the Timberwolves and Twins are going to be pretty ass for the next like 2 years.

Brewing Up With 12-17-2007 12:41 PM

The Timberwolves will suck, yes. But the Twins? Oh no they wont... (Liriano)

Flagjacket 12-17-2007 12:45 PM

Yeah but good luck next season in the AL Central... (Detroit Tigers)

SkaRobotArmy 12-17-2007 02:57 PM

and the success of their sports teams has ...what bearing on its relevance to producing musicians?

AndreTheHyena 12-17-2007 03:54 PM

Minneapolis has produced Prince, the Replacements, and Hüsker Dü, though, so it has some merit.
But then again, it's not like major record labels are short on money (usually), so what does it matter to them?

And the label would probably make more money from the band than the band would from the label.
This argument (that supporting a major label either by buying their product or being a band on their roster is a punishable offense) is fine, unless you shop at any chain "box store" (Wal-Mart, etc), ever buy gasoline, eat industrialized meat, etc etc etc, in which case the argument is nullified. We forget how many huge, immensely evil corporate powers there are, and how much we really contribute to them simply by living a normal, consumer-driven life. The "Music Industry" is horrible, definitely, and they really don't deserve any more money, but there are a lot more bigger, meaner bullies in the world that I'm worried about.

It's called a joke, dick.

radtaste 01-03-2008 09:00 PM

So, do people generally like Against Me! with band and all, rather than the solo acoustic stuff?

Flagjacket 01-03-2008 09:20 PM

I like ATEC the best, but the Acoustic EP is also awesome.

I'm going to quote myself, because I think I made a pretty valid point that no one addressed.

Flagjacket 01-03-2008 09:32 PM

I see your words but all I can read is "pay attention to me listen to my opinions dammit!'

Don't you have a vegan basement tour to be booking?

AndreTheHyena 01-03-2008 09:35 PM

Don't you have some irrelevant to be complaining about? What's a vegan basement?

Scuba_Steve 01-03-2008 10:24 PM

I just dont support major label stuff because there is often very little that I tihnk is good enough to support. :-/

plus, I only buy vinyl now and very few huge major releases come out on vinyl.

This post makes me seem worse than I really am.

Sure there are worse things out there, but that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about the music industry and major labels, which makes the other things you mentioned irrelevant.

Also, there's only so much in the corporate world that one can avoid. Obviously you can choose not to shop at Wal-Mart but there's really no getting around buying gas from a corporate bully.
