It's aight, Roy.

One of a Kind 04-29-2007 01:20 PM

Mael Mórdha anyone? haha They're excellent Celtic Doom Metal from Ireland. I suggest you check out any of their ****, as all of it is good.

pixiesfanyo 04-29-2007 11:41 PM
You aren't the internet police. Piss off yourself.
No I'm not but I have experienced being in a band and trying to get the money together to record and release music. For example, the first MCD I did with one band sold well and the money we made from that allowed us to go to Academy Studios with Mags and record another one. The second MCD got much better reviews, more people came to the gigs, more people were talking about us and raving about the CD but yet somehow we sold less. What happened? Three years and Soulseek.

I know many people who run small labels (you know, the labels that we rely to release the music we love - not Nuclear Blast etc) and they've all told me how much sales have gone down and how much they're struggling to make enough money to release records now.

This stuff really gets to me - to me its the equivalent of seeing some pretty flowers in a garden, ripping them out of the ground to take home - yes now you may have some pretty flowers but next time you go back there won't be any flowers. Crap analogy maybe, but if you love the music then you really have to support it.

I picked on Txus then partly as a joke because if you don't buy "Drawing down the Sun" I don't get any royalties!

Roy: I apologise if I misunderstood you. I wholeheartedly agree that Myspace is gayer than Elton John's favourite vase and wish bands would go back to having proper websites. I reckon you can take a risk with The Gates of Slumber though - if you like proper heavy metal with doomy elements, cues from Manowar and Cirith Ungol then I promise you will like them.

Royd Rage 05-01-2007 04:39 AM

i understand. my interest though is not to steal music. i just wanted to hear something before i buy it and it is hard when they only have one place for clips and that place doesn't work for me.

i'm not one of these people that just downloads all and puts it on their Ipod. i have dial-up and no mp3 player. so most of my stuff comes from actual albums.

rippa32 05-01-2007 07:40 AM

I totally understand what you mean. I often download the odd song to get a feel and if I was a recording artist that would never bother me. But I have seen people download entire albums and discographies at a time (even dial-up for one of them) and it really pisses me off, and they reason that they have enough money already. But doom metal bands and other bands that arn't so mainstream are vary rarely "rich".

Jondur 05-01-2007 07:49 AM

But then again there artists who happily offer up their music for free download and in those cases you should go for your life. And here's a great example:

Argus are the new band of ex-Penance vocalist Butch Ballich. Not wholly doom but all heavy metal with doomy elements and massive vocals. Enjoy!!

Sounds cool, thanks.

Yeah, I like them, very good stuff.
I enjoy the fact that it's not just celtic stuff, but also some straight up metal.
A lot of bands that wander off into a certain style (like Celtic, Gothic etc) seem to put the fact that they're metal in second place and just play with stylistic elements for the sake of it and not because it fits the music.

ATM 05-01-2007 07:59 AM

Hey man, how's Norway?

the2stranger 05-01-2007 08:10 AM

Great. :D
I've been traveling quite alot already, been to Bergen, Stavanger and next week going to Oslo and in June to Trondheim.
But it's really great. I'm having the time of my life.
And then to think, one third of my time here is already done. :(

How are you doing? :)

ATM 05-01-2007 08:13 AM

Ah, I'm jealous of you.

Lillehammer is great, I went snowboarding there and had a blast.
Bergen is really cool how the village is right on the side of the mountains and the fjords are beautiful. I played in a basketball tournament there.
Oslo is where I lived! Let me know when you go I'll tell you the best places to go.

Iron Bars 05-04-2007 02:44 AM

Just picked up my copy of the new Warning album. Pretty expensive import, but worth it.

NP: Swallow the sun - Too cold for tears

Shattered_Future 05-04-2007 08:43 PM

That's the one song I don't like off of that album...

Iron Bars 05-05-2007 03:51 AM

It's not my favorite but I don't think it's a bad song either. Doomed to walk the earth is my favorite at the moment.

:(
I read your message too late, I went to Oslo yesterday.
But I had a pretty good time.
Went to the Hardrock cafe, to Elm Street (another rock/metal bar), Vigelandsparken, some CD stores (bought Ulver - The Marriage Of Heaven And Hell, and Perdition City) and just walkedaround this nice city, since it was beautiful weather.
Bergenis indeed awesome and I'm stil having great time in Lillehammer.

Anyone like the Funeral Orchstra?
A Swedish, you guessed, funeral doom band.
Pretty good.
:)

Poofy 666 05-05-2007 09:38 AM

I've been listening to Officium Triste's Reason lately. Very My Dying Bride-ish sounding, but they manage to not be a carbon copy. I'm liking it so far.

The Funeral Orchestra rules. Love them.

the2stranger 05-06-2007 03:49 AM

Good. \m/

Apocalyptic Trance Ritual has one of the most addictive FDriffs I've ever heard.
Not realy a huge fan of the ocals, but it's quality fd still.
Do you have the full length?

RetiredAt21 05-06-2007 08:22 AM

Someone sent me like 4 songs and I don't know the names of any of them.

Does anyone else besides me like March Into The Sea?

Txus 05-06-2007 10:32 AM

Love them, I love everything with SEA at the end :p

RetiredAt21 05-06-2007 06:07 PM

Awesome. You're the only other person I know that likes that band.

Shattered_Future 05-06-2007 06:09 PM

I do like them, I just wish they had fuller production.

RetiredAt21 05-06-2007 06:14 PM

I love the rawness of the production. I love raw production.

Shattered_Future 05-06-2007 06:15 PM

I think the raw production complements them much better than other bands, but I just wish it had a fuller sound. Everything sounds distant and tinny...not crushing enough.

RetiredAt21 05-06-2007 06:16 PM

Ah, I see what you mean, and I agree completely. If they sounded as crushing and claustrophobic as Moss, then they'd be one of my favorite bands.

Shattered_Future 05-06-2007 06:18 PM

Moss...

Care to provide some linkage?

RetiredAt21 05-06-2007 06:19 PM

I highly recommend the first song. It's incredible.

New March Into The Sea song up. It's pretty good, I like it.
