Im looking at getting a B.S. in Civil Engineering. I'm about half way there right now.

Whats your major?

:):upset:

JoeDaddio 08-14-2004 12:24 AM

Hey, Kandyman....

When you become a civil engineer, make sure that you put the entrences to freeways on the convinent side. Like, ya know... if the west traffic is heading left, and the east heading right, put the **** entrance for the west on left side, and the east on the right side. Okay? I hate that ****. Getting all turned around in a city that I've never been to before.

The Idiots I have to Deal with on a Daily Basis

Alright... so get this. I got my stuff back for my financial aid for school. When I filled out the FAFSA (that's the federal student aid form) online, it told me that I was going to be considered an independent (not dependent on my parents for any money). So I'm like, rad, more money! But then when I go to check on the status and find out how much I'm getting,and it's quite a bit, so I'm stoked. Then I go to see how long it's going to take for me to get the paperwork, and there is a hold on it. The hold is there because the school is requesting my parents tax info. So I'm like "Fuck, they're going to rip me off here." Because them asking me for my parents tax info is like them saying "Haha... we're going to cut your loan to shreads!" SO I write them this letter:

Hello,

My name is Joe Barrett, and my ID number is *********

I went to check my award summary, and it told me that I need to submit
my parents taxes.

When I filled out the FAFSA, I was told that I was an indipendent. I have been admitted to CSUF for my masters degree in American Studies, and I am not living at home. I do not understand whymy parents tax information is needed.

Please let me know, as I'm sure that submiting my parents tax information will only ensure that I will be offered less money in my loan.

Thank you,

Joe Barrett

So I wait two days, and then they send this back to me:

Being considered an independent student is not merely a matter of being
responsible for your own educational expenses. You must meet at least
one of the following seven criteria to be declared an independent
student for the purposes of the FAFSA:

Be 24 years of age or older by December 31 of the award year;
Be an orphan or ward of the court or was a ward of the court until the
individual reached the age of 18;
Be a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States;
Be a graduate or professional student;
Be a married individual;
Have legal dependents other than a spouse;

Therefore your parent's tax information is required.

Thank you.

Now, after reading the letter that I sent them, and then the response that they sent me back, can anyone find something in the seven things listed that might qualify me as an indipendent? There are rad points involved ;)

Serious. You could be an 18 year old veteran who got discharged because he was flat footed and you'd have more rights than me. Bastards.
