amazing album, probably one of the most influential records in Southern rap if not in rap in general.

interview with Houston rapper Bun B about the influence of the album

exredhouseresident 11-04-2009 01:59 AM

Props. I got new respect for Bun B after looking over that.

yeah, he's one of my favorites of all time. i recommend the album UGK - Ridin' Dirty if you haven't listened to it already.

kingsoby1 11-04-2009 06:40 PM

new Wale is awesome. will be the AotW once i get up to it.

Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remix

illmitch 11-05-2009 02:08 AM

downloaded paul wall - the peoples champ recently, good stuff. especially the screwed and chopped side.
new Wale is awesome. will be the AotW once i get up to it.
This album could be huge, I think it's going to get really good reviews.

Personally, I think its good, but not sure exactly what I think of it yet. It's weird that it's pretty much a straight up pop record, with huge name guest spots and production from the likes of Mark Ronson etc. There could be any number of singles from it, it's difficult to figure out my highlights. The Sitek tracks are great, though.

/incoherent post.

illmitch 11-05-2009 03:11 PM

i'll probably give it a listen i guess. not that big of a wale fan though.

some of the guest spots look interesting though, particularly Bun B, Gucci Mane, and Lady Gaga. plus there's a neptunes-produced track.

ATM 11-05-2009 03:59 PM

If you guys like DMV hip hop, check out Phil Ade. Dude is nasty as hell.

Apocalyptic Raids 11-07-2009 03:04 AM

Jedi Mind Tricks - Violent by Design

definitely one of my favourite rap albums production-wise. vinne paz and jus allah aren't that great but i could probably listen to anyone over these beats.

niobium 11-10-2009 12:07 PM

Onra - Chinoiseries

some of the samples aren't as knock em out the park as they could be but thematically it stands upright and the drums are pretty solid if not that spectacular. chinese instrumental hip-hop

Apocalyptic Raids 11-13-2009 01:30 AM

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III

never really liked this much besides a couple of tracks but it's bene growing lately.

I second this.

illmitch 11-13-2009 03:18 AM

violent by design and tha carter iii both rule

probably about the same quality album imo

kingsoby1 11-13-2009 03:28 AM

JMT, immortal tech, and the roots got me into hiphop... funny cause i only really like the roots anymore.

Apocalyptic Raids 11-13-2009 04:07 AM

yeah jmt were one of my early hip hop loves

then i hated them

now i kinda like them again

ATM 11-13-2009 03:54 PM

Same, except I don't really like them now. How many times can you hear Vinnie Pazz rhyme about hating fags?

kingsoby1 11-14-2009 02:11 AM

Felt 3 is really good. will be aotw next probably... aesop rock is an interesting producer obviously influenced by blockhead/ el-p

Kyle 11-14-2009 06:10 AM

Love the beat on She Sonnet.

yeah i still don't like vinnie paz

jedi mind is all about the beats for me. the rapping is competent enough but i wouldn't listen to it for solely for that.

Kyle 11-16-2009 07:52 AM

New Doomtree track is a banger.

Skyler 11-16-2009 11:52 PM

Those Felt albums always felt pretty underwhelming to me.

Slug and Ant are capable of so much more than that, e.g., The Dynospectrum.

Kyle 11-19-2009 08:27 AM

New Edan is fantastic.

Ant doesn't produce felt 3... Aes Rock does. Dynospectrum was definitely better than every Atmosphere joint.

kingsoby1 11-19-2009 02:22 PM

i listen to, appreciate, and enjoy hip-hop from every region, era, and subgenre. TI's Paper Trail, Guilty Simp's Ode to the Ghetto, and Black Milk's Tronic were three of my favorite 08 records for example. don't make this another gay amit argument.

i don't even like aesop rock that much.

niobium 11-19-2009 02:38 PM

man i aint got no time for silly ****
put the record on pack a bowl take a hit

Jawaharal 11-19-2009 02:52 PM

that's pretty hot, i was just messing with you any way

i actually might try out some quasimoto and immortal technique on the side when all this chopper city boys gets boring

trae - losing composure. excellent album from one of houston's finest.

kingsoby1 12-01-2009 04:23 AM

way more interesting than the clipse record:

Souls of Mischief - Montezuma's Revenge (2cd)

Produced entirely by prince paul... and pretty solid.

ATM 12-01-2009 08:29 AM

Will check that.

I am digging:

Dagha - The Divorce
Curren$y - The Jet Files
G-Side - Huntsville International
Phil Ade - Starting on JV
