meh imo ibanez's can be VERY hit and miss

BenJammin 10-16-2006 01:54 PM

The SR506 has a pretty weak sounding B string, and the tonal difference when moving between your D to your G and C strings is huge.

No bass is without its problems. People overrated the SR506. I'm happy with mine, but I know that it's not the end-all be-all of basses.

Hardinge 10-16-2006 02:06 PM

i played on the SR506 once before, its a nice bass

lemoley 10-16-2006 02:06 PM

well im outter here

see ya guys

Hardinge 10-16-2006 02:07 PM

cya lemoley

BenJammin 10-16-2006 02:18 PM

The only hard part is trying to figure out what kind of a bass I want next. I'd really like a nice four for playing in bands and for slapping, but a 7 string is just what I need for my solo music... hmmm...

Spaceman Spiff 10-16-2006 02:20 PM

You can play in bands and slap on a 7.

BenJammin 10-16-2006 02:22 PM
You can play in bands and slap on a 7.
In a band setting, I'm not too likely to use those higher strings. And I don't know if I want to punish my back by playing with a seven for that long.

Spaceman Spiff 10-16-2006 02:23 PM

You still have a 6, too. Because I have one, I know that it's not a very heavy bass.

Also, do you have a band right now that you want the 4 for?

BenJammin 10-16-2006 02:27 PM

No, I'm in in a band. I'm just hypothesising. And you know as well as I do that when it comes down to it, I'll just go for the 7. :p

Spaceman Spiff 10-16-2006 02:31 PM

Because the 7 is way more awesome. 4 is useless when you have 7.

It's not like anyone gets a 7 and tunes it ADGCFBbEb.

 Yeah, truly so.

As long as the string spacing isn't any tigther than it is on the Ibanez, I can hack slapping.

And I'd love to see the look on a guitarists face when I show up to audition for a band and whip out a 7.

One Groovin Clown 10-16-2006 02:37 PM

My ibanez sr505 has been very good to me until recently.
Lately, when i hit the open strings the note will distort and almost sound like i threw on a pedal. It doesn't happen whenever i fret a note wich I'm finding werid.
Any one have any ideas about what could be wrong?

Could be that your battery is dying, or could be that you have the bass knob turned up too high and are causing it to distort.

One Groovin Clown 10-16-2006 02:41 PM

i do beleive mine is passive, especially since theres no battery opening on the back.

And the bass knob on my amp and bass are turned slightly. Not all the way.

Aerodyne 10-16-2006 02:42 PM

Spiff, what's the status on the Zorn albums?

/Is a music bum

Spaceman Spiff 10-16-2006 02:44 PM

I need to get my bass fixed up.

-solder wire on input jack
-adjust action (it's not all the bad, but needs adjusting for how I want it, not totally sure how to do it on my own, especially with two truss rods)
-new strings (don't fully need them yet... after over a year and a half, but why not?)
-clean pots
-reattach volume knob

Ugh... it's not even that much, but it's stuff that I need to do or get done.

Garry Goodman is so amazing!

His tone is riduculous, and he really puts a lot of fun emotion into this version.

I think I've found one I like more than Jean's.

They're uploaded, I was just waiting for Jesse to get on.

I guess there's no harm in posting the link now...

All of them Ben, all of them. Bwahahahaha!

Actually I've got IV, V, VI, and VII: The Piano Collections and the VIII and Advent Children OST. I've also got S Generation somewhere, I just need to find it. Want me to start compressing them?

I would make sweet love beyond all compare. I have the VI and VII piano collections, but the rest of those would be sooooooo appreciated.

Do you have FFVI: Grand Finale? I'll up that for you.

Thonk 10-16-2006 03:09 PM

Ohshi.

VII Piano Collections is great.

Aerodyne 10-16-2006 03:16 PM

No I don't, Ben, but I'll sure as hell take it! :thumb:

 Do you like Yasunori Mitsuda, too? If so, I've got the Brink of Time soundtrack (Chrono Trigger) that's wicked awesome.

Spaceman Spiff 10-16-2006 03:17 PM

I'll give that FFVII Piano Collections thing a listen, I guess.

2muchket! 10-16-2006 03:18 PM

Gonna get some FF OST sent tomorrow.

Aerodyne 10-16-2006 03:24 PM

Oh sure. All of those game franchises have excellent soundtracks, and they sound even better when they arrange them for orchestras. Send it this way! :thumb:

Brink of Time is less orchestral and more trippy jazz. It's still good, though. I've got that first album (Grand Finale) uploading and I'll put up Brink of Time after that.

Polyamarous 10-16-2006 03:30 PM

This Spy Driver song thing is so cool/

I've got to go to class right now, so I'll upload when I get back in about 2 hours.

Uhm, it was exams, and then summer, and now University.

I dunno, when MX started logging you out everytime you use it, I got lazy and I haven't been back.

BassVirtuoso 10-16-2006 03:44 PM

Quick, the V in a ii-V-I progression is a dominant/7 chord right? And the ii is a min 7 while the I is a maj7? I know they could be a lot of things but these work right?
