Dr. Jake Destructo 10-31-2006 12:32 AM

What kind of stuff does Aerogramme write on their own?

Kage 10-31-2006 12:34 AM

Shit.

ATM 10-31-2006 12:36 AM

Have any of you heard of The Samuel Jackson Five?

bucket 10-31-2006 12:43 AM

of course we have. what kind of person would post in a post-rock thread if they hadn't heard of them.

Pretty good band, nothing too special though. I can really hear their King Crimson influence in some of their bass parts.

ATM 10-31-2006 12:45 AM

I really like them. I just love their melodies.

That means basically nothing without referring to which era you're talking about.

Me.

Kage on Aerogramme - orly? That's a shame, hmph. I was hoping a band with such a badass name would be of quality.

the2stranger 10-31-2006 05:15 AM

Anyone familair with Transmission0 ?
Post-metalish/ sludgey like very much influened by Isis.
I saw them opening for Ephel Duath a few months ago.

I didn't enjoy their vocalist, but the music wasn't bad at all.

Txus 10-31-2006 05:21 PM

Never heard of them, Petey.

Jake: Aerogramme are great. Kage is just being a little faggy...I really like them and the split is great. It's not really a split though, it's more of a colaboration.

That's true, I've actually never heard them.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-31-2006 08:20 PM

Someone make me a list of quintessential post rock bands I'm missing out on. I've heard Isis, Sigur Ros, Rosetta, GS!YBE, Pelican, and a few others that I'm blanking out on at the mo'. Kthx

Kage 10-31-2006 08:21 PM

Oh, man, there are a lot.

Mono
Bark Psychosis
Tortoise
A Silver Mount Zion
Explosions in the Sky
Mogwai
Red Sparowes
Magyar Posse

To name a few.

Daven 10-31-2006 08:25 PM

MAgyar Posse is very good.

I'm assuming you forgot to mention Explosions in the Sky.

Magyar Posse
Saxon Shore
Red Sparowes
God is an Astronaut

Those are all pretty far away from each other stylistically, but post-rock at heart.

Yeah, because Explosions in the Sky are the most amaammamazzznignginzingizing band ever.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-05-2006 04:59 PM

I got Isis's In the Absence of Truth a few days ago.

Firduous E Bareen is one of the most amazing songs I have ever listened to. It's mindblowing. The exotic percussion is panned a little much for my liking, but it eventually ends up creating the most perfect atmosphere. That track and Dulcinea and are the standouts after four listens through.

bwnstl 11-05-2006 05:14 PM

Really? I'm actually not so much a fan of Firduous e Bareen. On first listen, the stand out tracks were Wrists of Kings, Not in Rivers But in Drops, and Dulcinea. Now I decided the strongest tracks are Wrists of Kings, Dulcinea, and Garden of Light. I think Garden of Light is actually one of Isis' best songs, period.

Txus 11-05-2006 05:24 PM

My favorite Isis song at the moment is Not in Rivers But in Drops, it's perfect.

blueyxd 11-05-2006 05:27 PM

So didn't anyone listen to The Evpatoria Report that I sent for the daily upload the other day?

niobium 11-05-2006 05:29 PM

I will listen soon. I've only become familiar with Wrists of Kings, and it's very good.

I paid a good $15 for it, I should listen to it already.

Txus 11-05-2006 05:29 PM

I've never liked them that much, I already had that album...sorry bro :(

bwnstl 11-05-2006 05:49 PM

The link has been taken down, so I can't download it. :(

blueyxd 11-05-2006 05:57 PM

danmn oh well
I had to replace The Album Leaf with that since Txus uploaded it the day before mine was going out :p

I think Garden of Light sounds entirely too much like Dulcinea. I'll keep listening though, heh.
I think Garden of Light sounds entirely too much like Dulcinea. I'll keep listening though, heh.
Hmm, they have approximately the same formula, so I can understand where you're coming from. I guess that also explains why they're my two favorite tracks on the album. :)

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-05-2006 07:30 PM

The first chord is the same, so instantly I'm like "shoot, this isn't as cool as Dulcinea."

After that it does deviate as much as Isis tends to deviate, but since the first few seconds are nearly identical I can't get the similarities out of my head. :p

I think the thing that I like so much about Firdous E Bareen is that there are elements in that song that I've never heard from Isis. Using the tabla that way, some of the textural guitar-work, they sound one-off to me. This is something I can appreciate.

Kage 11-05-2006 08:01 PM

I guess I'm the only post rocker around here who hasn't given Isis' new one a proper listen yet. I've got it, I just need to sit down with it.

You're not alone, man. It's been wasting away in my library for a while now.

I really should listen to it, but I'm on something of a Kyuss binge.

niobium 11-05-2006 08:24 PM

Just finishing up Wrists of Kings. It's pretty solid.

Nepenthe 11-08-2006 09:25 PM

Fools, it's their greatest yet.

BurningSky 11-08-2006 10:09 PM

I'm not a fan of Isis. I've listened to a couple of albums, and it just isn't my cup of tea. Godspeed has REALLY grown on me, though. I didn't like them much at first, but now Raise Your Antennaes to Heaven is one of my favorite albums...

Spiritofmosa 11-09-2006 07:01 AM

anyone heard ZIDANE: A 21ST CENTURY PORTRAIT soundtrack yet?

ATM 11-09-2006 08:52 AM

I thought about downloading it, is it any good?

Txus 11-09-2006 08:53 AM

I've never heard of it :(

ATM 11-09-2006 08:57 AM

Mogwai's slow-shifting, meteoric post-rock might have never earnt them a place on the back-of-the-nets montage on Match Of The Day, but their soundtrack to Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait suggests that for this band, football boasts a deeper emotional palette than the Lightning Seeds could ever hope to evoke. Truthfully, it beggars belief it's taken Mogwai so long to reach the rarefied sphere of movie soundtracker; their gleaming, glittering instrumentals are big and beautiful, like a glacier or a blue whale. But supplying the score to Turner Prize artist Douglas Gordon's match-long portrait of French footballer Zinédine Zidane, is probably a subject somewhat closer to their hearts. Lilting and ponderous, it boasts little of the fireworks that this band have been known for: far from the anger its name suggests, "Wake Up and Go Berserk" is a neat excursion into serene ambience, all finger-picked semi-acoustic guitars and padded sticks, while "It Would Have Happened Anyway" adds that crucial tension, perhaps a product of the pre-penalty kick. Mogwai's spirit has soften in recent years, but with Zidane, the boys done good: call it a "Nessun Dorma" for the experimental rock set. --Louis Pattison

Txus 11-09-2006 09:07 AM

Oh I see. I think I won't like it that much, I don't like Mogwai (I know, OMGF what's wrong with you?) and I don't like Zidane :p

ATM 11-09-2006 09:09 AM

Haha fair enough. My girlfriend and I named her bong Zinédine Zibong :-D

Txus 11-09-2006 09:13 AM

 That sounds like a cool thing. God, I hate the whole french team...and Mogwai really bore me.
