?

I'm looking for something similar to groups like Godspeed You! Black Emperor (A Silver mt Zion, Do Say Make Think, Explosions in the Sky) but with slightly less abstract song structure. Sigur Ros is the closest I've found on my own.

CaptainWaits 01-28-2005 11:45 AM

I'm gonna go Cd shopping here in about an hour or two, so what should I buy??

Just give me some of your favorite albums of all time, I don't care what style it is

Distant Echoes 01-28-2005 11:49 AM

Rush-Moving Pictures
LedZep IV
The Who-Quadrophenia (you will love this album)
Deep Purple-Machine Head
anything Floyd!

I've already got em all except for "Quadrophenia", so I'll add that to my lsit

Any other suggestions??

Has anyone heard of a sick band called Twelve Tribes? I saw them last week supporting Killswitch Engage and they were ****in awesome, I bought their album The Rebirth Of Tragedy (once again, ****in awesome) and I'm gonna see em again when they support 36 Crazyfists in April.

Distant Echoes 01-28-2005 12:02 PM

Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (got me into the beatles before i thought they sucked)

-Yes - The Yes Album. Im listening to it now and its pretty good
-Whos Next
-Rolling Stones: Jump Back (very cheap too)
-Queens Classic/Greatest Hits
-Lynyrd Skynyrd - any greatest hits album (Thirty:greatest hits is great if your willing to frop alot of money)
-Doors Legacy

most are greatest hits albums...but i know all the bands i named you cant go wrong with any of their orignal albums.

12 Tribes is a fucking awesome band.

Invicta_Veritas 01-28-2005 12:11 PM

By the way, you people's definition of metalcore is quite interesting but false.

Any Borknagar album, any Arcturus album. That is my suggestion.
By the way, you people's definition of metalcore is quite interesting but false.
We didn't define it. I recommended bands I thought he would like, clearly stating that they were not metalcore.

Permanent Solution 01-28-2005 12:50 PM

Plus, it need not be metalcore, I am just stating that I like those bands but I know they aren't metal. Thanks for all the suggestions, anymore?

ToRidTheDisease 01-30-2005 02:27 PM

Can someone tell me some good death metal? More on the technical side too.

Bartender 01-30-2005 02:34 PM

Band (recommended album)

Cynic (Focus)
Atheist (Unquestionable Presence)
Necrophagist (Onset of Putrefaction)
Theory in Practice (Colonising the Sun)
Suffocation (Pierced From Within)
Sceptic (Pathetic Being)
Cryptopsy (None So Vile)
Lykathea Aflame (Elvenefris)
Death (Human)
Quo Vadis (Day Into Night)

Not necessarily ultra-technical, but not simple.

could anyone recommend me some forest of shadows?

Reloaded 01-30-2005 02:59 PM

Black Album-metallica

kr3wRIDER 01-30-2005 04:17 PM

im looking for really heavy fast stuff, with no stupid slow parts, songs like "white worms" by cryptopsy, "angel of death" and "necrophobic" by slayer, and "fight fire with fire" by metallica. recommond artists and/or songs. i also like a good fast guitar solo. what i dont want is heavy stuff with a slow tempo. i dont want stuff like "i cum blood" by cannibal corpse because it has too many slow parts. recommend?

munky_magik 01-30-2005 04:18 PM

I imagine Exodus would be good for you.

Moon Flavor 01-30-2005 04:21 PM

I posted this in another thread without much avail. I'm trying to find some more extreme (death or black) metal, here's what I have so far:

Immortal (very good)
Emperor (just now starting to be able to stand it)
Cryptopsy (too **** repetitive, don't like it much)
Arcturus (good stuff)
Mayhem (....yup)
Atheist (my favorite death metal so far)
Carcass (also very good)

And that's about it. What should I go for next?

From Emperor, Immortal, and Mayhem:
Dimmu Borgir
Borknagar
Diabolical Masquerade
1349
Dissection

From Cryptopsy and Atheist:
Cynic
Necrophagist
Deeds of Flesh
Lykathea Aflame

From Carcass(I'm assuming earlier carcass, pre-Heartwork):
Napalm Death
Pig Destroyer

Arcturus:
None that I know of, they're pretty one of a kind.

Thanks, I actually only have Heartwork from Carcass.

In that case you'd want more melodic death bands.

Arsis
In Flames(Pre RtR)
At the Gates
Dark Tranquillity
Arch Enemy
Nonexist

Bartender 01-30-2005 05:45 PM

^Arghoslent too are more than worth checking out for melodic death metal. Incorrigible Bigotry is more or less perfect, in my opinion.
could anyone recommend me some forest of shadows?
I only have their Where Dreams Turn to Dust EP, but it's very good. It's just three songs;

Eternal Autumn
Wish
Of Sorrow Blue

but it comes to about half an hour of music.

In fact, I'll upload Wish for you to check out. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

Current blues-rock bands of the same lineage as say Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath without pretending to be them

I knew I was forgetting something. That's one of the best albums I've heard in a long time.

jimiandangus12 01-30-2005 07:59 PM

Can anyone recommend me what to get for my first Opeth album, thanks.

 actually I'm fully stocked with melodic death, thank you very much. I didn't think to put that, because it's really not that extreme...

Moon Flavor 01-30-2005 08:05 PM

Definitely Blackwater Park

jimiandangus12 01-30-2005 08:36 PM

Also, does anyone have a suggestion for my first In Flames cd, thanks.

The Jester's Race

And not should that be your first In Flames Cd, but it should be your last, cuz that IMO is the only good release of In Flames (as it is a great release)

ytsedrummer 01-30-2005 09:07 PM

Clayman or Soudtrack To Escsape.
