i wouldn't exactly call it garbage, just say the quality went down. both the bass and guitar riffs are still pretty good, the drums aren't that bad, you understand most of what sings davey the first time you hear him either in the old albums or new albums. look at the brightside, theyre not like any other band that have their video constantly playing either on fuse or mtv.
the quality didn't go down, the style just changed. They started out as a generic punk band, then did some post-hardcore, then Misfits-style horror punk, and now they're in between the Misfits and the Cure. From a technical viewpoint, the music is at its best. The complexity and diversity is at its highest point thus far. Really, it's not that it's bad music, because the music is very good, but it's just not your style, which is understandable if you're into old punk and not the Cure or other 80s pop stuff and EBM and industrial and synthpop and all that other fun stuff. |
Mohawk didn't have a video, but He Who Laughs Last did.
A video for key lime pie would've ruled. |
A video for key lime pie would've ruled.
haha that would've been really odd...i think i might make a mock-vid thing if i can figure out how... |

Film key lime pie,but have the old original batman style things pop up and say stuff. |
i was gonna take a pic of one and have it be like dancing around and having a mouth
|
but they had music videos even when they werent big.
i think they had one for third season and i wanna get a mowhawk.
Third Season is a awful video, But a really good song. |
what was with the ice cream truck mutiny?
|
I have no idea, Thats what i didnt like about it. It didnt make any sense at all.
|
haha that would've been really odd...i think i might make a mock-vid thing if i can figure out how...
it could just be 2 minutes of staring at a key lime pie. that would be so artsy.
what was with the ice cream truck mutiny?
the guy was charging kids too much money for ice cream because he was a jerk and had some sort of effective monopoly on the ice cream. |
but what does that have to do with the song at all? I mean, it's a song about autumn....
|
but what does that have to do with the song at all? I mean, it's a song about autumn....
it's more about the transition into autumn. the changing of seasons could just as easily be a revolution, speaking figuratively. |
i suppose so

I HAD KEY LIME PIE TONIGHT(for thee first time) THANKS TO AFI. It ruled of course.
|
I'v yet to here any old afi so I won't comment, but probably the thing that makes me loathe them now is their singer. I like my punk lyrics to be be more shouted then sung. They seem to be good musicians but the singer just kills it for me. If their older stuff is sung similar to their new stuff then I'll probably dislike that too.

they're heading toward Cure and away from punk. They used to do screaming punk. They even did HC for a while |

What?!?!? I don't get how everyone says they did post-hardcore in the pre-STS days. And I don't get the "horror punk" thing either. The way I see it, they have been close to hardcore their entire career. Their earlier sound was similar to hardcore in the vein of 7 Seconds. Then they transitioned into a heavier hardcore sound. Then to melodic hardcore as I see it. And now post-hardcore. They may have sung about demons in some of their songs, but I think that in songs such as "The Nephilim" they are actually more symbolic of other things than actual monsters. And certainly they didn't base their lyrics off of horror material which doesn't warrant them the title of "horror punk". |
shizzy has it down. i wouldn't consider them horror punk in the least. they covered the misfits a couple times. so did the bouncing souls. they used a little horror punk type imagery. so do most bands, to some extent or another.
but the nephilim aren't monsters, they're real, it says so in the bible dammit. |

I think he used the nephilim as a symbol, although the nephilim had been created prior to the writing of the song. I don't know what the nephilim is in the bible though. =/ I'm getting a tatoo of the nephilim really soon in between my shoulderblades. Probably in the next week. Whenever I find time. |

Dude, are you a ****ing cuke or something. AFI (a finger inside) is nowhere near punk.
They might have had fast beats at one point but the music as a whole was far from the punk attitude given by many great bands such as A Global Threat and Clit 45. Please, never offend our punk scene by brining in such a mainstream band to represent an underground scene. |

The Nephilim are the children of male angels and female humans. By having relations with humans, those angels fell and the Nephilim are known as the children of fallen angels.
|
SYMAOYE sounds like a straight up hardcore record to me. By timing, do you mean, the year of release?
I don't understand everyone's beef with "Demonomania". The song owns. Hard. Better than the Misfits version. A hardcore song with less than a minute in length. What more is there to ask? |
Yeah the year. Most hardcore is 80s so it's sort of late
And Demonomania is just like "MY FATHER'S A WOLF DEMONOMANIA! DEMONOMANIA! MY MOTHER'S A WHORE! DEMONOMANIA!" over and over and over and over and....you get it |

I prefer the AFI versions of both that and Halloween.
|
I agree on Halloween, and I'll add Last Caress (that's a really good cover) but I just don't like Demonomania. Haven't heard the Misfits one yet. My friend Jorgan says it was a bad song to start with.

I'm listening to Suicide File right now and I gotta say, hardcore is almost as good now as it was in the 80's. Plus, the term "post-hardcore" doesn't refer to the time period. It's a totally different genre with a totally different sound. And yeah, the lyrics aren't the best. But the song is fun. And the recording for all of the Misfits - Earth A.D. is kind of poor, and Danzig's voice isn't as good on it as the other albums. So I think AFI's version completely blows the original out of the water. |
