yyz, definatley the greatest instremental i ever heard. The guitar solo reminds me of the taliban, but its still the coolest ever. Oh, and geddy's bass doodles are amazing!!! I play a mean guitar and i cant figure out the bass solos. The drums are effing eh!!! (Im canadian) Anyway...eh, rush is the greatest band i can think of (besides Mozart...Lol) Anyone wanna argue? Im up for discussion(if im here for it)

BludgeonySteve 08-21-2005 10:57 PM

All albums mentioned so far are my favorites by them, but i'd also add Presto and A Farewell To Kings.

thunderzstruck 08-21-2005 10:58 PM

Please learn to type well, yes we all love Rush too.

ummm alot of Canadian people are on this website, no excuse. Noone is bashing rush in a RUSH thread right now, why would they come into a RUsh thread?!

Shazzam 08-21-2005 11:05 PM

Yes basically invented prog rock.

And Boston is awesome too, Tom's solos are so spacey.

****...thought it would work. I was just reading back on some old posts on this thread so thats why. Oh, and i hate rap and i would go into an eminem thread to bash him, definatley!!!

Please don't do that, because they'll be just as annoying to them as if someone came into here to endlessly bash Rush. Eminem had talent too

Yes, talent, very talented, but just not the talent i like, but i guess youre right. Its all opinion. But its also opinion to share why you dont like something, which is why i thought someone would leave some negative posts, b/c i personally think they are quite funny.

godinplayer 08-22-2005 12:24 AM
2112 is a msterpeice (the song) But the albums pretty good too
the whole first "side" is one story/song isnt it?

I heard the part where hes supposed to be learning the guitar and he just strums the strings open, its pretty sweet

BludgeonySteve 08-22-2005 12:33 AM

He sure learns how to play guitar quickly. On second he's hitting open strings and after a minute he's playing some crap that it would take me hours to play perfectly...

BludgeonySteve 08-22-2005 12:38 AM

Bitch, get out of my country before I call the mounties on you for public drunkeness.

Yeah, he then takes it the priests (the people who control every faucet of the media) and shows them the guitar. They say there's no use for it, saying it's too acient and it'll just destroy their creations. He walks down a street when an oracle takes him to a place like how we are and shows all the many "artists" at work and the talent they posses. He gets sad when he realizes they left his home planet when the Federation took control and censored everyting. So then the main character realizes how this censored society isn't as good as a free place (he always thought were he lived was the best in the galaxy because of the peace), even if they do have peace (one of the big things going for the federation is claiming they have had peace for a long, long time)

He goes back into his cave and commits suicide realizing without self-expression and all these restirctions on life aren't worth living for. In the final seconds I think it's an army taking over the federation and the priests.

/My view on the song, I hope that made sense, I just typed what came to my head

Is the clean intros Alex is playing supposed to be him? hmmm intresting, he's good!

dr._feelgood 08-22-2005 08:56 AM

i downloaded a ton of Rush songs yesterday and i was wondering which album i should pick up first

Glass Onion 08-22-2005 08:59 AM

Avoid Feedback unless you want to hear them cover some other peoples songs.
Even though sometimes it can be overrated, 2112 is probelly my favorite. I enjoy Fly by Night aswell
You could get Chronicles if your into Best Of's, But I always avoid those things.

dr._feelgood 08-22-2005 12:15 PM

hey that reminds me... the other day someone told me that 2112 syncs with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, like how Dark Side of the Moon syncs with The Wizard of Oz. Has anyone else here tried this and can confirm if this is true?

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 12:21 PM

no.

Glass Onion 08-22-2005 12:25 PM

wtf are you on about? That mankes no sence whatsoever.

dr._feelgood 08-22-2005 12:29 PM

link

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 01:09 PM

meh doesn't sound as good as dark side and oz

Could try it though, but Id on't have Willy Wonka

Who figures this stuff out anyways?

dr._feelgood 08-22-2005 01:10 PM
Who figures this stuff out anyways?
People with waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on their hands.

Arucard 08-22-2005 01:21 PM

So, who likes Roll The Bones as much as me? I think that album kicks so much butt its unreal, the use of synths and keyboards amazes, and the funny rap at the end of Roll The Bones just tops it all off.

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 01:38 PM

Can't say I have ever heard it :(

dr._feelgood 08-22-2005 01:43 PM

My uncle gave me Roll The Bones when he cleaned out his CD collection a few months ago, but I never took the time to listen to it and sold it at a garage sale and now i'm starting to regret selling it. :upset:

Arucard 08-22-2005 01:53 PM

You slags! Its a great album.

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 02:07 PM

:( I need more rush albums but I have no money at the moment

Anyways, I hear for the offical threads the names can be changed, this thread is official enough. What should it be named if we could?

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-22-2005 03:04 PM

We should call it "The Temples of Syrinx."

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 04:26 PM

The thread of Syrinx? like that?

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-22-2005 04:36 PM
The thread of Syrinx? like that?
I like it!

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 05:19 PM

haha its soo cheesy it might just work

-:Vincent:- 08-22-2005 05:31 PM

Rush is overrated. Not bad but overrated, so is Neil...

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 05:44 PM

What? How? They're not even known by the mainstream.

Arucard 08-22-2005 05:50 PM
Rush is overrated. Not bad but overrated, so is Neil...
You name another drummer who can play as well as him and write lyrics as well as him. You can't? Go home.

thunderzstruck 08-22-2005 05:54 PM

Peart's lyrics are so incredible

Maggot Dream 08-22-2005 07:08 PM
Rush is overrated. Not bad but overrated, so is Neil...
To say Neil Peart is overrated is an exercise in ignorance. Right up there with John Bonham, Keith Moon, Ginger Baker, etc in influence, and is one of the most technically skilled drummers out there. He's one of the few rock drummers who can stand up with the jazz greats.

YDload 08-22-2005 07:42 PM
What? How? They're not even known by the mainstream.
Rush is on classic rock radio a whole lot. Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, Limelight, Closer to the Heart, Working Man, and Freewill enjoy lots of radio airplay.

Huber 08-22-2005 07:49 PM
Rush is overrated. Not bad but overrated, so is Neil...
I don't hear them being praised enough to call them overrated.

And no, Neil is not overrated. Go watch one of his DVDs.

Jude 08-22-2005 07:54 PM
What? How? They're not even known by the mainstream.
Yes they are...but they're definitely not overrated. Neil Peart in particular > nearly any drummer I've ever heard.

Huber 08-22-2005 07:57 PM

He is one of the greatest ever, but not the greatest. He's among Steve Gadd, Thomas Lang and others.

HumanHiFi 08-22-2005 08:14 PM

everything about Rush was fantastic, theres no argument against Neil Pearts abilities and Geddy Lee is known for being one of the best rock bassists as far back as you know.
