I would definately rather wait than download it
|
Yeah, don't listen to this guys view on it.
Yeah, cause if my view doesn't coincide with yours, something's gotta be wrong here! The album blows. Repetitive, completely uninspired, poorly mixed (by NIN standards), lyrically uncreative and completely cliché, it's the biggest musical dissapointment of the 2000's so far. Sure, it has a few catchy pop lines, but there is a serious lack of substance. Better luck next time Trent. |
No. I want to restrain myself from downloading the leak.
It's so easy just to IM me and I could send it to you. (evil, I know) |

Wrong. As someone who's been listening to NIN since Pretty Hate Machine, I've always had a lot of love for Nine Inch Nails. I own the 17 Halos and have always had a great amount of respect for Reznor. I'm not a fanboy though, there's nothing to "get" here, it's pure regurgitated, uninspired trash, save for a few fleeting moments. |
Whatever you say, chief. I bet the album rules.
Go ahead and blind yourself with forced optimism before you've even heard the music. If you convince yourself it's good, maybe you'll enjoy it regardless of the actual music, right?

Right..... The album is amazing though. Great lyrics, great music, it's just basically perfect. |

Okay, seriously, shut up. |
Whatever you say, chief. I bet the album rules.
Josh: No no.. Even though I download many albums.. I can't download this one. I would feel really bad.. because I've come this far without downloading it.. I must not. Do not tempt me, for I shall send my wrath of holy.. ..... um... NIN.... on.. you. ...
Alright, I won't tempt you anymore, but if for some reason you want to get it, just ask. |
Well at least we know Trent isn't gonna be out in the cold this year, as long as there's still an army of fanboys running around to lean against.
|
I've got the album preordered and I've been listening to the leak for 2 days now. Not really sure what to make of it. I guess I was hoping for something fitting the calibur of TDS or The Fragile. There's some catchy lines in here and good moments, but that's not really what I listen to Nine Inch Nails for. There's about 3 songs that I enjoy, the rest seem a bit bland..
NIN is my second favorite band and I was really hoping that Trent would come through with another mind blowing offering of great music to listen to, love, analyze, and appreciate. The lyrics dont appeal to me as much as Trent's other offerings, and there's a lot of areas where the music is almost a chore to get through. I'm dissapointed but at least I'll get to see NIN live soon, and I'm pretty sure they're not losing any ground in that area. |
This bad press is scaring me,you guys are **** sukers for listenin to a leak and then getting people set for dissapointment before the albums out, fukers :upset:
May third will be a great day for me.
The new ryan adams cd comes out that day, and I'm also seeing ryan perform the same day, on top of the fact im getting the nin cd and i'll have something to look forward to when i see nin live the next week. I win :) |
Who's Ryan Adams?
And all this bad stuff about the CD... is... bad. Very very bad. |
Who's Ryan Adams?
And all this bad stuff about the CD... is... bad. Very very bad.
seriously? he's kind of an alt-country/rock/indie kind of guy, most of his stuff sounds 70s' ish. Not really anything to do with nin except his new cd comes out the same day and im seeing them both at the same place |
I was just at the official NIN site and there's some file there for download (under the "current" section) that Trent thinks Mac users will find interesting....Wonder what it is...Anyone have a mac and willing to download?...Then of course, let us know what it is. :)
|
Ok , I've been listening to the leak for a couple days as well now, and I've heard a lot of bad stuff abotu the record. I actually found it pretty **** good musically - (so far 5 songs that i really like, and the rest I'm sure will grow on me like every other NIN album). I also enjoy it when I'm stoned, which always is the real test of how good it is. ;)
|
Everyone who downloaded the leak can take their fucking criticims out of this thread. I'm not interested in hearing this. When the album comes out, bash it all you want, but don't try to start ruining it for the rest of us.
There'll always be people that don't like it, of course, but we're not impressed by you people who are so ready to jump the gun and prepared to actually not like something from one of their "favorite" artists that they'll take the slightest weakness and blow it up. Hint: Trent is NOT going to re-release TDS or TF, or Broken for that matter....get over it. |
Haha I thought you meant rerelease the actual cds, and I was thinking WTF its already been released.
And if you want another TERRIBLE NIN song, deep. The Mac file is THTF in Garageband so you can make your own remixes, theres already a few on ETS.
Do you even know what the hell he's talking about in this song...or what issue he may be addressing? I don't know but to me it seems like he was talking about the fact that some men feel "powerful" and/or gain self-confidence by letting everyone else know that they have a big "gun" or pen!s...it is an affirmation of their masculinity....and they do this because of the stereotypical idea that society has of men. It could be about his dear friend Tori Amos and the fact that she was unfortunately raped...He might be singing it from the rapists perspective... Or, as i've read before, he's simply making fun of gangster rapping and how alot of the time all they talk or rap about is their dicks and how easy it is to get women ....So, either way you look at it, those lyrics are just fine and well thought out...and were put into a certain "simple" way that obviously many people out there don't understand.
TDS was a ****ing concept album dumbass, get your facts straight. |
Also, closer has bad lyrics.
I like the album, theres only two songs i really dont care for. Getting Smaller and Beside you in time. |
TDS was a ****ing concept album dumbass, get your facts straight.
I never thought of it as a concept album until I heard about it from Kage and some of the other people. Then everything made ALOT more sense. |
Its hated by pretty well every serious NIN fan.
|
I'm actually pretty sure that a few people on here like Closer.
Why don't you like it? |
TDS was a ****ing concept album dumbass, get your facts straight.
Fu(kin' relax, dude. I think everyone is entitled to interpret any d'amn song which ever way they want. Besides, part of that was taken from an interview: ".....The record was nearing completion. I had written those lyrics pretty quickly and I didn't know if I was going to use them or not. To me, Downward Spiral builds to a certain degree of madness, then it changes. That would be the last stage of delirium. So the original point of "Big Man With a Gun" was madness. But it was also making fun of the whole misogynistic, gangsta-rap bull****." --Trent R. |
But it was also making fun of the whole misogynistic, gangsta-rap bull****." --Trent R.
OHHH BUUUURRRRNNN!!! OHHHHH AWW MAN!!! OMG!!! jk, But yeah, I think anyone can interpret a song anyway they want to. A song can have more than one meaning. |
I got Pretty Hate Machine a while ago and think it's amazing. would anyone suggest what i should get next?
|
meh, we all know reznors a coke fiend, he was probably ripped out of his mind during that interview.
|
But it was also making fun of the whole misogynistic, gangsta-rap bull****."
And also I usually dont consider a song thats meant to mock people to be good lyrics. |
Why don't you like Closer though?
(to 12 rounds or anyone that doesn't like that song) |
Well I worded that bad, its not that I hate it, its that everybody likes it despite it being one of the lesser songs on the CD.
The only songs I probably truely hate are Star****ers Inc and Deep |

It sohuldnt have been on TF imo, just didnt go with the CD, its good the first time, but after that I didnt care for it. The lyrics are predictable and it sounds like a manson song, maybe on purpose? who knows but reznor.
|
For closer id describe it as overplayed and overrated.
|
For closer id describe it as overplayed and overrated.
You need to listen to ALL the layers of closer again..its hard to really get into it because it IS and has ALWAYS been overplayed...but if you take it for what it is and really listen to how many tracks are there and how everything works together it really is a masterpiece... |
well, about closer, i think its a good song, but not quite as good as some of the other stuff on TDS.
|
Man, I just love the lyrics on Closer though (not for the same reason as all the other non NIN fans like it though..if yuo know what I mean)
And the song itself is jsut great, I can't really describe why I like it so much... But I don't think it is my favorite song on TDS, I'd give that one to I Do Not Want This. |
I can see that. But people here have heard it before it was on the radio, so they maybe don't see it like that. Sure, it gets radio play, but that doesn't mean it's crappy.
Indeed. And the lyrics are amazing on it as well.... I do not want this was probably my LEAST favorite on TDS but now it is really growing on me, (after 10 years heh) i love the verse piano riff. Ruiner is by far my favorite tho....simply amazing...but then there is Eraser....ahhhh i cant decide.... |
It's rather hard to pick one particular song off of TDS. I think every song has been my favorite at one point or another. Right now I'd have to go with The Becoming..or Ruiner. Grr. No, I can't pick.
|
I've always enjoyed March of the Pigs, it's so strange and it's meaning is very interesting. I believe it's about the Manson's followers. (the pigs)
At first, I thought it was a reference to Animal Farm. |
^^ Thats very interesting. I had also heard somewhere that the song did have something to do with that (Manson's followers). But I also read this a couple days ago:
interviewer: can you tell me who the pigs are? trent reznor: uhh, it kind of depends which song you're talking about. but, it could be anywhere from...well, for example in march of the pigs... i'm referring mainly to..anywhere from the media to people who i thought were friends that are around me to the kind of.... the issue i think i was addressing was the feeling we got when in america when we attain a certain level of success and it surprises us to see all the legions of people around you who start ****ing with you and um can't wait to see you fail, waiting for you to **** up, ripping you off, trying to use you...the fact that american media in the underground world, you're their darlings, to oops we accidentally start selling some records, and "we have to turn our backs on you" because we're not cool anymore because people know about us now. interviewer: right, is that "take the skin and peel it back/doesn't it make you feel better," is that what that line's about? trent reznor: right. Either way...I like that song alot too. |
