what you get banned for?
I made a thread called MX Marylanders, as I wanted to know who else here lives in Maryland. People posted stupidly in it(I thought that was the reason for its closure), so I made a new one. Apparently there was a bunch of other threads for other states, and I got banned

-TheGlassPrison- 03-15-2005 04:11 PM

thing - 2 week ban, 12 days 15 hours left.

Thats what the mod said, i asked him how long you were banned for

Thanks man for telling me. 2 WEEKS? Thats a while... Oh well.

Double Bass Jim 03-15-2005 06:43 PM

2 weeks is ridiculous! Your unbanned man.
Did you, by any chance, get offered a modding job for a different site (which i wont name) recently, playwithfire? I wont mention the site on account of advertising, but im curious...
I know the MX'er who got that job, I wasn't offered it and had never known about it up until he mentioned it to me.

So as of now I'm pretty dedicated to the MXD&P ;). I visit the Pearl forums once in a while, just as a guest though, to see what opinions are on there. I decided against joining because seeing as it's owned by Pearl, it's pretty biased towards Pearl.

I don't really frequent many other forums, I check in on things on a few every couple of months but that's really all. MX is the only one I'm on even on a weekly basis (though with MX it's usually a daily basis).

Yeah...I was offered first, and i suggested a few people i knew of here in my early days on my other username. Bobbyjohnny was the other one offered, and possibly some others i dont know about, but i was just wondering.

Im still dedicated to these forums though...when i see some worthy questions of being answered. The other one doesnt even have more then 15 members next..none that post rather then the mods.Thats were most of my articles come from though.

Anyway...i actually got a jam going this week...my first for a long time.
i toldmy firned Id go to his house and tune his very very crappy set for him, but itll probably die again in 5 minutes of playing, but a promise is a promise. It should be fun

RichHunt 03-17-2005 12:59 AM

Does anyone else find that the bass drum is a fair bit louder than the snare in Hells Kitchen (DT of course), especially near the end.

Maybe it's just because the bass drum has a big oomph to it and the snare is kinda deep.

Yeah he is king imo. Classic comedy king! well in my era.

Yeah. I've always found Mike's snare sound to be generally quite weak and quiet.
Geez, now I feel like the old Fogie!!

My name is Rich and I'm from Warren, MI (North of Detroit) and I'm 40 (yikes!)

I played percussion from Junior High partway through college. Played marching band, concert band, pit orchestra, jazz band you name it.... Toured Europe with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp travelling international concert band and jazz band one summer, that was COOL! So I sold my set off halfway through college (a late 70's Slingerland metallic blue) cuz I was strapped for cash and didn't have time to play them.... Graduate, get a job, get married, have kids etc...... somewhere in the back of my mind I miss playing... not just the drum set but all percussion! Last year I joined the Warren Concert Band, a local community band that's been around for about 35 years now, god it feels good to play again, with a serious group!

Now my oldest son plays percussion too, in the middle school. He's pretty good if I do say so myself! About 2 months ago he gets "invited" to join the jazz band (and yes, it's by invite only) and his instructer calls me one day to say he's doing pretty good but will really needs a set at home to practice with (see the wheels turning  ), turns out all the other drummers in jazz band are 8th graders and will be graduating this year, there are no 7th graders and he's the only 6th grader invited to join so far, odds are somewhat good he may be the ONLY drummer next year in jazz band. So, the wheels are turning, his birthday is tomorrow and he will be surprised with a Pearl Export set (Dark wine/black hardware) and Meinl CMS cymbals, god I can't wait to set it up and surprise him, and then sit down and start showing him some moves....... :D :D :D :D :D

This is a great forum!!
Hi my name is Les. Dont feel alone...LOL....Im 39 and i too have run the gambit of the playing drums and percussion since 6th grade.... i have seven children and four of them are percussionists.....my basement(when we are all playing) is louder than any drumcorp could be.....LMAO I have tried a lot of different kits. I have recently aquired a set of pdps and they are great...sabian and gibralter.

guitarloser 03-17-2005 09:16 AM

My name is Marvin Beagle, i am 17 and have been playing drums for 4 years and guitar for 2. I am in a band, were not that good! I play backup guitar occasionally but mostly hold down the Throne. My favorite band is Metallica and I have a 5-Piece Pearl kit and Zildjian ZXT Titanium cymbals.

sleepless 03-17-2005 02:09 PM

Bah...I usually don't like to do this but what the hell.

My name's Douglas Dean Read, born in Siloam Springs, Arkansas on 11/16/87, I now live in Indianola, Iowa. I am obsessed with music and drugs and women. I am a supposed "genius" in the top testing percentile in the United States. I don't give a fuck about high school. I have chosen to devote my life to percussion/business pursuits, and the love of my beautiful girlfriend Kaci. I like Blindside, Tool, local music scenes...and I just got a mohawk today...for fun.

TTTSNB 03-20-2005 04:41 PM

Nice everyone.

playwithfire 03-20-2005 10:45 PM
Thats still one of my favorite snares, so much ring and overtone.
IMO ringy snares have to have a really even decay to sound really great. A nice PING reaches a peak volume quickly after the strike and then decays evenly, if the ring tremolos then it doesn't sound nice.

-TheGlassPrison- 03-20-2005 10:54 PM

I need to get a bio in soon..

SilenceNOmorE 03-21-2005 09:02 AM

I love Mike Portnoy's snare

My names David Dovey, I am 18 and from Perth, Western Australia. I have been playing percussion for 6 years, kit for just over 4, and have been in a band for just over a year. My band is Axiom, we play metal (I suppose the best sub-genre to describe it as would be melodic metal). I am doing Bachelor of Design at Edith Cowan University, (2nd year) and have been going out with my beautiful girlfriend for coming up on 5 months. I love reading, watching DVD's, and above all else, listening to and playing music. My fave bands are Tool, Metallica, Dream Theater, AFI, Bad Religion, In Flames, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, A perfect Circle. Other music I like is old-school heavy, thrash and power metal, prog metal, classic rock, old school hardcore, underground hip-hop and melodic death metal.
My kit:
Pearl Export EX (black/black h/w)
14/5.5 wood snare
10x9 tom
12x10 tom
14x14 floor tom (suspended)
16x16 tom (w/ legs)
Cymbals: Zildjian
14" ZBT Hi-hats
21" A Zildjian Sweet Ride (Traditional)
16" ZBT Crash
17" A Custom Crash
18" Z Custom Medium Crash

Dixon Double Kick Pedal
Tama Hi-hat stand w/ Ludwig drop clutch
Cymbal Stands: Dixon and Pearl
Pearl Rock Cowbell
Vic Firth Danny Carey Signature Sticks
Wincent Rods and Brushes

Phototropic 03-21-2005 09:20 AM

Hey I'm Jon from Wales, UK

I play Drums and Guitar :) I played drums for 2 years up until about 2 years ago, I have been writing and recording a lot of songs, and now I feel the need to get back into drumming

I wanted to buy a kit again to record drums on my songs but I have been offered a place in a band so I can't wait to get jamming with them

I mainly listen to rock, with a bit of folk thrown in for good measure

My fav bands are Kyuss, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Tool and a couple of others

Peace out ;)

Arucard 03-21-2005 09:52 AM

fiojamdrummer 03-21-2005 10:54 AM

Hi all!

My name is Fiona, I am a school teacher and I live in the Isle of Man. (Home of the TT!. I am 24 years old and enjoy listening to all types of music.

I played drums when I was at secondary school - played for about 2 years but then sort of just gave up... I think it was because I didn't really 'get it'.
Anyway, I took drumming up again in April this year. I bought myself a Yamaha DTXpress electronic drum kit, as noise and space were a big issue. I started playing for a local band who play with other 'learning' groups (it's called a music workshop and we tour round the Manx pubs, basically playing and enjoying ourselves).
I've recently ordered an acoustic kit as I found it really hard to do a gig with an electronic (sound comes from the PA which is far away - not the same response etc) so I'm waiting for my brand new Yamaha Stage Custom Noveau to arrive next week :p

I'm now playing in another band called the Rejected Barbie Dolls...having a great time!

I've just bought a guitar as I fancy learning a bit. I think it will as to my musical ability and have a positive impact on my drumming (I hope!)

Nice to find out who I'm chatting to here.

Erm…. Not sure what else to say now…..

Cheers guys!

Umm... Its pretty good, i prefer his Live At Budokan one better. But thats because of the point raised earlier, that his bass drum totally owns his snare.

My faverouite snare of all time is probably David Garibaldi's on Tower Of Power's live record.

Simple Man 03-25-2005 10:53 PM

greenday14 03-26-2005 09:47 AM

Well, my name's Drew, i'm 15, i've been drumming for about 2 years, more like 1 and 4/5. I'm in a band called Mack, and I'm seriously thinkin bout quitting cause our singer sucks. I like alternative and indie and more underground stuff, not pop. Pop is *shivers*. Anyways, so happy Easter everyone (I know it's tomorrow)!

Seafroggys 03-26-2005 11:58 AM

Hey, pop can be good. Just listen to Kylie Minogue!

Actually, naw, late 80s early 90s pop was pretty good. Then techno and hip-hop started mixing with it, and you got what we got now. Erg.

Fuzzy 03-26-2005 06:44 PM

Meh, everyone go listen to some Kraftwerk :P
