FII is a good album, Just the album that's disregarded by most Dream Theater fans.

BludgeonySteve 01-29-2005 03:30 PM

SFAM is their best :).

omg FII is teh sell out lolz
FII is a good album, Just the album that's disregarded by most Dream Theater fans.
Trial of Tears is one of their better songs, I think. Not quite up there with Glass Prison, but still very, very good. I find myself listening to it alot lately...

That being said, does anyone else share my view that SFAM is just a bit overrated? After I finally sat and listened to the album, I felt a bit disappointed...musically, it was a bit too light for my taste, with the exception of a few parts here and there. The story is great, but it was hard to get into it, due to the instrumentation...

BludgeonySteve 01-29-2005 03:34 PM

It's really a second and third listen album. Listen to it a few more times to really get into it.

But yes, it is a tiny bit overrated.

^Dream~Theater^ 01-29-2005 03:34 PM

People overhype SFAM way to much when they have alot better work, It's just a masterpiece when it comes to being a concept album. Trial of tears, New millenium, Peruvian skies, Lines in the sand, Hells kitchen..Fii Had alot of good songs even though they were pushed into making the album a certain way.

Yeah SFAM was slightly overrated. FII is ok, a few great songs on there but the rest are just a waste of space.

RiceMonster 01-29-2005 03:42 PM

I haven't really heard anything off of FII, so I can't judge. I agree that SFAM is over hyped, its very good, but people praise it to much.

I think that everybody says SFAM is really good because it came out right after FII! And I agree with your statement, Peruvian skies and trial of tears are great songs but new millenium...

The bass on New Millenium is unreal!!
The bass on New Millenium is unreal!!
Yeah Myung plays a chapman stick which is pretty cool, but apart from that I dont think it was such a great song.. But I agree, the bass is good!

BludgeonySteve 01-29-2005 05:52 PM

Hehe. Myung is the most talented member of dream theater I think. He copies the guitar parts but on bass alot.. That's extremely hard to do.

^Dream~Theater^ 02-01-2005 05:16 PM

More talented than Petrucci? That's saying a mouthful:)

Another 2005/2006 tour date:

June 18th - Loca Rock Festival - Murcia, Spain
(also on the bill: IRON MAIDEN)

jiashen 02-02-2005 03:25 AM

hello people, here's a quick question. i just bought scenes from a memory and on the last track, finally free, at 11:17 after "open your eyes nicholas - *shocked exclamation*" there's a whole length of buzzing sound all the way the end of the song at 11:59. tell me this isn't intentional.

jamesclelland 02-02-2005 09:25 AM

i recently bought train of thought, and i was blown away. are there previous cds just as good, better? i was thinking of getting six degrees of inner turbulance but it's god**** expensive.

Try Scenes from a Memory or Awake.

dUSK 02-02-2005 09:37 AM

Awake is awesome, although lately I've been preferring Train Of Thought. Also, has anyone been able to get that bonus footage stuff on ToT to work? What is it?

It is intentional! It's also the begining of "the glass prison" (1st track off 6doit)
It is intentional! It's also the begining of "the glass prison" (1st track off 6doit)
Wow, I have never noticed that it is also the begining of "The Glass Prison", hmm.

IvortheEngineDriver 02-04-2005 07:50 PM

I bought 6 Degrees a while ago and put on the back burner and had to firmly digest I&W, Awake and ToT...wow, the Glass Prison owns my ***!

Right now, its the best DT song I have ever heard.

That's all I wanted to say...

RiceMonster 02-04-2005 07:57 PM

To be honest, I've never been a fan of the Glass Prison. I'm not sure why.

Omega Red 02-04-2005 08:42 PM

Some one send me some good dream theater. preferably with as little singing as possible, and some good bass playing solos what have you. other than that i'll take everything you have. zip it and post it at www.yousendit.com

then i'm me TIA

ytsedrummer 02-04-2005 08:55 PM

All Hail The Glass Prison!

MNbassist78 02-05-2005 12:03 AM

Yeah, I really like the riff in "The Glass Prision" with the wah, and basically the whole song, which I love.

By the way, The glass prison RULES

thanks a lot, i was just about to go back to the shop to ask for another copy. would've wasted my trip. anyway SFAM is quite incredible. i actually downloaded it (shhh...), and bought it because i thought the songs were great. then i realised there's even a story woven into the songs. haha, good stuff. i like how the vocalist sings higher at parts to mimick a girl's voice (victoria). it's pretty **** funny.

MAthiAS 02-05-2005 10:03 AM
Yeah, I really like the riff in "The Glass Prision" with the wah, and basically the whole song, which I love.
Yeah, kind of like how Home's riff is.

GenuineImitation 02-05-2005 02:31 PM

I have been getting into dream theater lately and I have train of thought and Once in a livetime. I have heard both pull me under and under a glass moon, is the rest of the cd Images and Words worth getting?

ytsedrummer 02-05-2005 03:38 PM

ALL Dream Theater is worth getting.
