His name is Dave, and he's pretty good, yeah. He messes up on the solo's sometimes live, but that's just because it's live. He is actually really good. He can play solo's behind his head. I think that if he were just a little bit better then he could be the guitarist for an awesome metal band.
He used to play lead in a death metal band.
He used to play lead in a death metal band.
that's friggin awesome, I knew that he had played in tons of bands bofore Sum 41 but I didn't know about the death metal thing

Dave aka Brownsound is an excellent guitarist, great solo on The bitter end

Agent_Orange 01-21-2005 09:23 AM
where do you get it???

by the way, I did some convincing of the PDWAB to just rename it instead of closing it, that's why it is now called Sum 41 Thread instead of The official Sum41 thread (mod endorsed!)
I oredered mine off the interweb.
Did anyone watch SNL sum 41 with Ludacris? What do you think?
my goodness you europeans are lucky, that sounds like pretty much one of the coolest things ever

metal_milita 01-23-2005 06:05 PM

Daves first solo to Bitter End is easy if you hammer on/off. Second solo is tricky, but with some well learned techniques you can learn it in a day.

metal_milita 01-23-2005 06:06 PM

^^ Not that I'm saying the solo sucks. Anyone can play a really hard solo. The hard part is making a really hard but GOOD solo.

metal_milita 01-23-2005 06:11 PM

Anyways, the best part I like about Sum41 is how no one can classify them into a genre. Rockers thing sum is rock, punkers say their punk and metal heads deny they ever play metal. Thats so cool

I can't play a really hard solo, but I don't play guitar yet, I think that Dave did a really good job of making that a really hard but awesome solo

yeah, that happens, they are now rock, and I haven't talked to too many punkers who said that they were punk, but I suppose that there are more than I am seeing

HHOP - Pop-Punk
AKNF - Pop-Punk
DTLI? - Hardline (sort of a really heavy punk sound, as close as punk gets to metal)
C - Rock

Agent_Orange 01-24-2005 09:21 AM

Did anyone see that SNL with sum 41 and Luda. It was kinda cool.

chuk-metal(they even said it themselvs not hevy metal just normal metal but with catchy lyrics ther no real genre

metal_milita 01-24-2005 11:45 PM

I can play all of 1st solo in Bitter End exactly right, and half of the second solo. I'm still learning, and I can also play the entire song "Bitter End" + "88" (minus last last solo). Sum41 songs are relativley easy.
If you're a bassist, you'll find much more creativity with guitar, often the best rythm guitar players have bassist roots or genes because they know how to define the beat of a song. So go for it.
Sum41=50%Metal/Rock30%/20%Rock to me

they may have said it, but that doesn't make it true. On all accounts I've heard them say that their new album is Rock. And I don't see any way that it could be metal (but believe me, I would love it if they did some metal)

that's really cool about you and the solos. I can play The Hell Song and Makes No Difference, and I started to learn Welcome To Hell and No Reason and 88 but all of the tabs were so wrong that I couldn't save them.
Sum41=100%Rock, it's true, they might have 1 song (The Bitter End) that represnts metal in their music, but that is it

TheBassicBassist 01-25-2005 06:43 AM

EVERYBODY!!!!!!!! You can download the Sum 41/Ludacris video in the video section of the media section of the site http://www.sumpieces.com :smoke: I am going to try and download it, but my internet is so slow it'll probably take me an hour and a half.

I didn't get to see the whole thing but I was coming in from work and my Dad was a sleep on the couch and I heard this music that kinda sounded like Sum but the lyrics were all gangsta. I was highly confused took me a minute to figure out what the hell was going on. It was preety cool though.

TheBassicBassist 01-25-2005 11:26 AM
Downloading it now.
that's awesome, I'll probably go there when I get home from the school that I am currently at and I'll spend a couple hours downloading it. I hope that it is worth it because often I will download a video and the audio is the only thing that I end up with. I hate it when that happens
