Pink Floyd claims to not have been a drug orientated band, or more like Gilmour does. He says so in the DSOTM video...he also says you can trust them on that. Now, I listen to "set the controls for the heart of the sun" and I'm thinking...hmm? But then again, they were just an all out experimental band. Besides who give two ****s about wether they did drugs or not? No one questions the Beatles on that matter. It's just sad that people think Floyd is stoner music and it's cool because of that.

Here's something intresting I read...I'm not sure if it's true, but that sucks for them
Discrimination anyone?
Gilmour, Wright, and Mason weren't heavy into drugs. However, Roger said that he and syd barrett "enjoyed rock & roll, drugs, danger, and sex, in that order." Also, there's all the stories about the band having to put down $5000 every time they went to a hotel, to pay for any damage waters might cause while on an acid trip.

As for that article, looks like a load of crap to me.

the mighty zep 11-04-2004 04:44 PM

I believe it. But i think the odds of just an old rusted 70s car would be the same of having drugs with or without a zeppelin bumper sticker.

And i hate that crap about people disliking floyd because their a stoner band or only stoners listen to them. I would like them to name their favorite bands and i think itd be pretty obvious about 90% of all classic rock bands did drugs. If they can even make music that good with or without drugs...theres an obvious sing of greateness here. Dont bash on stoner bands, because they can be wrecked and still have a better musical career then any one of us

funk_rock_jazz_drummer 11-04-2004 04:53 PM

pigs ( three differant kinds) is just a melodic masterpiece

Kingofdudes 11-04-2004 04:53 PM

Every other post in that dang classic rock poll: "lolz pink floyd isnt teh classic rock"

Retards...

Det_Nosnip 11-04-2004 04:56 PM

Well, they aren't really "classic rock," they were doing their own thing that happened to correspond with the same time period. They're prog or art rock, really.

Kingofdudes 11-04-2004 05:00 PM

Classic Rock as I see it, is memorable, influential music, that has been able to stand the test of time. And Floyd has been able to do that.

the mighty zep 11-04-2004 05:04 PM

floyd defintaly is classic rock, though their genre is prgressive/art/phycedelia rock.

that is a beautiful definition
i have a classic rock radio show at my school, and i hate when people tell me certain music isnt classic rock because it was too 'tripped out', 'not real rock' etc

no_talent 11-04-2004 05:14 PM

i hate the term "classic rock"

Broken Arrow 11-04-2004 05:29 PM
i hate the term "classic rock"
For what reason???

Syncratic 11-04-2004 06:27 PM

Pink Floyd is PURE FREAKIN' CLASSIC ROCK! I'm listening to Comfortably Numb as we speak...listen to it and tell me you don't like Floyd!

Riva 11-04-2004 11:20 PM

Ok people, the time has come. Pink Floyd and Led Zep are facing off in the finals. I know this is going to seriously test some loyalties, but I am certain the Floyd will prevail in the end. Just make sure you vote for them.

fake accounts made to vote will* be accepted

*will not

BludgeonySteve 11-05-2004 03:01 PM

The poll is up now.

$5000, it's like what you put down when you rent an apartment with a really big dog. Poor guy, treated like an animal. Oh well, who cares about him anyways? He's only Roger Waters.

I'm hoping it's a hoax, but I guess only people of that area would know.

Frodo 11-05-2004 05:12 PM

I have The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish you were Here, Animals, The Wall, and Pulse. They are indeed my favourite group ever. Interesting thread as well, I've learned some more PF trivia.

Oh, and D'boon thanks for the 'Murder' recommendation, its fantastic.

DeusExMachina 11-05-2004 08:45 PM

If anyone wants some interesting Pink Floyd trivia, go to http://www.mojo4music.com/html/floyd_answers.shtml It's the answers to a quiz in Mojo magazine, interesting stuff.

weatherman123 11-05-2004 08:45 PM

question:
didnt waters' girlfriend or wife or some sort of significant other sing on ummagumma?

~The*Lemon*Song~ 11-06-2004 12:36 PM

Which song? I don't recall a femine voice on that album...Waters didn't get married until alot later.

lunch998 11-06-2004 12:51 PM

This is late, but Mary Whitehouse, in Pigs(Three Different Ones), was a person in England fighting for Censorship and she had attacked Pink Floyd on a few occasions.

Im not sure about that one, maybe you should check out the line-up for all the parts in the album and see if anyone else is featured as other vocals. Not something a yahoo search couldnt find out.

I know for a fact that Gilmours girlfriend wrote alot of the lyrics in the album Division Bell. About 30 years off topic, but still relevant.

and we need more people to vote for Floyd in the Ultimate classic rock band, their getting crushed by these n00b "Led ZePpelin Rox!" people. Anyone who hasnt voted yet, get out there and vote! I promise itll only take 15 seconds out of your day.

....your name is the mighty zep...why on earth would you make fun of someone for saying "led zeppelin rox?"

let people vote what they think, not what you want them to think.

~The*Lemon*Song~ 11-06-2004 02:12 PM

yes, and they think to vote floyd.
Coze if they don't *shakes angry fist* :D

weatherman123 11-06-2004 04:41 PM

well i was looking at ummagumma on vinyl, and there was a lady beside waters and my friend said she sang on a song...i think its written down in there too, but i dont own it and i havent been able to verify if this is indeed true
anyways....has anybody grabbed the MOJO floyd special?

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-06-2004 05:00 PM

Ummagumma sux except for the live songs

weatherman123 11-06-2004 06:37 PM

i disagree, but to each his own
ummagumma is a great listen in my opinion

Riva 11-06-2004 08:40 PM

Ummagumma is great, but I only have it on tape.

I'm listening to Waiting For The Worms again. I love the melody for this song.

lunch998 11-06-2004 09:17 PM

My favorite Pink Floyd song right now is One of These Days.

By the way, the Cover of Ummagumma is so cool, and the picture of all their gear lined up.

abdab67 11-06-2004 10:16 PM

Piper at the Gates of Dawn is my favorite album. Oh, and Syd did'nt mean anything with the title, its just one of the names of the chapters in The Wind and the Willows.

abdab67 11-06-2004 10:18 PM

Also I agree with the one guy, Ummagumma's studio stuff is complete garbage yet the live stuff is great.

I've got the MOJO Floyd special. Lemme look it up, and I'll post the answer.

Kingofdudes 11-06-2004 10:28 PM

I need to order that MOJO

Best version of Welcome ot the Machine is the one of Roger's In the Flesh cd :thumb:
I recommend a listen of it.

lunch998 11-06-2004 10:29 PM

I recommend getting Obscured By Clouds, it is so horribly underrated. A must for true Floyd fans.

DeusExMachina 11-06-2004 10:35 PM

Doesn't say.

Kingofdudes 11-06-2004 10:36 PM

Does anyone know if Richard Wright has any other bands or solo projects after Pink Floyd? I want to check out some of his stuff.

DeusExMachina 11-06-2004 10:42 PM

Yeah. He has some solo works. I know on the David Gilmour DVD, they perform a song off his solo album with Rick Wright singing.
