This one goes out to Flynn. I finally listened to Black Rose Immortal and I must say, it's quite amazing. I especially like the part right around 12:38. The drum beat is so delicious.
I think my favorite song off of ****ation is Death Whispered a Lullaby. God, I love that song! :)
I love playing that song ;) That, Blackwater Park, and In My Time Of Need (and the intro to Drapery Falls) are the Opeth songs that I can play on guitar. Great band to just jam out to. BTW, I noticed on the DVD Mike said his favorite song from ****ation is Hope Leaves. That song always struck me as forgettable, not really worth listening to. hmm. |
Hopes Leaves is one of my favorites :D
I struck someone a deal a couple weeks ago. I would give them any CD to listen to, and they would give me any CD to listen to. I gave them Opeth a little early (they forgot the Phish CD). It turns out they can only listen to it until the vocals come on. It's too "devil music" :-\ Apparently Opeth sings about satan all the time   Anyways that got me mad since our deal was to listen to the WHOLE CD. Oh well. |
devil music, funny
Kaden, im jealous |
opeth is my favorite band. just wondering whats you guys' favorite song by them?
|
well one of my favorite Opeth song is Face Of Melinda
|
the funeral portrait!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I finally got my friend to realize he likes Opeth. He'd always say stuff like "Opeth sucks, emo emo wah wah" to piss me off, but he never really based his opinion on anything. So tonight we were driving around playing music, and I had a mix cd with some Woods of Ypres on it. He said he liked it, so I said "I've got their full length, hold on..." and slipped in MAYH. Here's a brief transcription:
(April Ethereal is on) Jon: His voice is better on this one. (thinking it's Woods of Ypres) Me: Yeah, well, uh, this one is newer. Jon: Dude, he sounds like that guy from Opeth, but better. (Credence is on) Jon: This guy's got a tight voice, who is it? Me: You really want to know? Mikael Akerfeldt Jon: Hmm. (doesn't know who that is) Me: Dude, why do you talk **** about Opeth, you like them everytime you listen as long as you don't know it's them. Jon: WHAT! I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO OPETH!? Oh man, I like Opeth... Me: Relax, it's not like you're finding out you're gay or anything. Jon: I know, but it feels like it. (Silence) Jon: ****, I like Opeth. Huzzah! |
^^ Yeah, sadly, people tend to have negative first impressions of the band. I think that some of it is actually intentional on the part of the band, as alot of what they are represents everything that people are either often afraid of or who people hate without really knowing why (ex: death vocals, or for metal fans, acoustic breaks and dynamics).

me and a girl i am/was in love with decided to go to an opeth concert in april.
heh, she freaked out on seeing the website. decided it was too scary. and i m like 'nooooooo, these guys arent violent or satanic, just good musicians' we didnt see them. :upset: |

Favorite song off of each album:
Orchid: In Mist She was Standing, Forest of October Morningrise: Black Rose Immortal, To Bid You Farewell My Arms, Your Hearse: April Etherial, When Still Life: Godhead's Lament, Benighted Blackwater Park: The Drapery Falls, Blackwater Park...****, THEY ARE ALL GOOD!!! Deliverance: Deliverance, Master's Apprentice ****ation: Death Whispered A Lullaby, Hope Leaves Weakness is a great song, but the song I have never gotten into is A Fair Judgement. "Lost you there..." hehe :) |
Freaky....mine too! Although, the ending of closure is the best part of the album, IMO.
I agree...the Latin Drums just make it awesome. I kinda like the end part of To Rid the Disease...the piano is haunting and I like the way the bass comes in |
Kaden, im jealous
of what? All those early Opeth albums I won from the internet? |
Anyone have the powertab to Epilogue? I can't seem to find it anywhere
|

...What? |
What do you guys think the new open will be like?? any ideas??
|
In the documentary on the Lamentations DVD they said they wanted to do something very different with the next album; Mikeal wants to do a concept cd again, but wants the songs to have a more 'black metal' feel.
Here's a random quote from an intereview I was reading that mentioned a new album; Mikeal: Yeah, with more like a swing to it, and also have some ultra extreme parts as well as some of the beautiful metal bits. |
I had to post this. A lot of my old fav bands have sold out and most of the crap I listened to 5-10 years ago just flat out suck now. I bought a CD last year entitled Orchid by Opeth. Lemme tell you...It opened my mind to Music. I listened to Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera etc when I was younger, I am talking the early 90's. There are a select few good bands that have been out there forever and havn't sold out. Slayer, Iron Maiden etc. But Opeth...I don't think It's possible. if you havn't heard of them or heard them I suggest Buying ALL of their CD's. The most Intricate band In my opinion. Songs average around 13 minutes...And you just want MORE!!! The first song I heard by Opeth was In Mist She Was Standing. I had goosebumps....Just when I thought There were no good bands out there Opeth rescued me.
Opeth has no Genre. They are Opeth :thumb: "Through the eternal flame I travel...As the rain keeps falling" - Mikael Akerfeldt.
**** yeah i love them so much. |
I agree...the Latin Drums just make it awesome. I kinda like the end part of To Rid the Disease...the piano is haunting and I like the way the bass comes in
Yeah, that's an incredible part as well...it springs to mind some vivid imagery for me...I'm picturing a light snowfall, late on a cold winter night, staring straight up at the sky as the snow falls around me... Sorry, I get very specific images sometimes with certain types of music... |

 Sorry, I get very specific images sometimes with certain types of music...
Yeah I know what you mean. Opeth really do that to you, most oftenly you'll get a forest scene image in your mind when you listen to them. I love how they do that so easy. Still Day Beneath the Sun gives my mind an image of being in the middle of vast wooded area, and the sun is slowly fading away, and you can just see the rays of the sun shine through the branches and leaves. Opeth are awesome. :thumb: |
I have currently heard 2 songs by Opeth (thanks to Kaden). They have a good, yet unique sound that I really like. Opeth > others
|
what two songs have you heard?
|
what two songs have you heard?
I sent him Harvest and The Drapery Falls. |
Hey guys, the other day I ordered "Still Life", then today they tell me that it's out of print. Is this true?
If so, I cry. |
Weakness is a great song, but the song I have never gotten into is A Fair Judgement.
This could just be me, but i love A Fair judgement, i think it's one of their more progressive songs even though it isn't the longest But i have to say, my favourite opeth tracks would be April Ethereal The moor Serenity painted death Leper affinity In mist she was standing Black rose immortal Deliverence Windowpane |
Hey guys, the other day I ordered "Still Life", then today they tell me that it's out of print. Is this true?
If so, I cry.
It shouldn't be...I think they are remastering it soon, that's probably why. You might have to get it off of ebay or something, though. Have you tried TheEndRecords? I bought Morningrise and Still Life off of there for like 16 bucks total |
This could just be me, but i love A Fair judgement, i think it's one of their more progressive songs even though it isn't the longest
But i have to say, my favourite opeth tracks would be April Ethereal The moor Serenity painted death Leper affinity In mist she was standing Black rose immortal Deliverence Windowpane
Great songs, some of my favorites...especially April Etherial. I still think When is the best track off of MAYH. I don't know why I haven't gotten into A Fair Judgement, I just don't like it as much. I love the acoustic part right before I believe the 2nd verse |
Favourite songs? Hmmmm:
Harvest The Leper Affinity Face of Melinda Deliverance The Funeral Portrait Wreath Benighted I don't have much of their older stuff (I know, it's terrible), that'll change once I get paid, so that's why they're all of Still Life, Blackwater Park & Deliverance. ****ation was a good album, but they really should have done it as a 2CD album. |
^^ Agreed...2 albums worth of ****ation material. :)
[/purposefully misinterpretting statements in favor of own opinion] |
The Funeral Portrait
Drapery Falls Leper Affinity Harvest Black Rose Immortal Hope Leaves Those are all my favorites that I can think of at the moment |
A Fair Judgement is definetly one of my favorite songs. The second solo is :D
I haven't been able to get into any of MAYH except Epilogue (got the powertab for it anyone?) and Remember Tomorrow. |
my favorite song is Blackwater Park
|
^^ Agreed...2 albums worth of ****ation material. :)
[/purposefully misinterpretting statements in favor of own opinion]
Nicely done! :) how does everyone think the band is going to be like without Lopez? You think Mendez's playing will be enhanced or will it falter (due to the fact that he's had Lopez a drummer for a long time now)? Do you think the band will be hurt without Lopez' awesome drumming (his latin percussion on the end of Closure, to me, made the song)? ANSWER ME **** IT! :) |
Why does everyone think Lopez is out of the band? It hasn't been confirmed anywhere, nor even mentioned on the official site.
|
Cardboard is right, its not offical yet, just a rumor.
|
hmmm...good point
|
BTW, whose that in your avatar Cardboard
