Edit: Any albums or songs by anyone**

Anyone know some good Progressive Power Metal like Symphony X??

From what I know, no one sounds quite like them. The most prog-like PM band I can think of off the top of my head is Blind Guardian.

Don't worry about it dude, who knows, maybe Blind Guardians a band like Iced Earty, you just gotta listen to them a lot before you begin to like them. So maybe that's what I'll do

Satch and Vai don't have neoclassical songs. Try some Becker, Friedman and Malmsteen.

ArcLite 01-20-2005 04:28 AM

While we're talking classical I have to suggest Symphony X.

Nice... took me a while to like them but well worth it

On a related matter (lists of CDs getting bigger and bigger), I'd like some recommendations for good albums from the 60s and 70s. Preferably not just "all of The Beatles/Black Sabbath/Pink Floyd/insert preferred 60s/70s band here", if you please.
You useless bastards :(

munky_magik 01-20-2005 08:46 AM

*has a natural deficiency in 60's/70's music and is therefore excused from making reccomendations on the subject*

i have a request. i think the music and style of necrophagist is completely awesome (the complicated and technical nature) but i cant stand the singers stupid voice. that low bellowing crap just really annoys me. what other bands play in their style?

well i just bought the Rush album 2112 and...i've been blown away, its amazing so go check that out 1976 i believe. I spose any other rush album too but i can't vouch for them

IAJP 01-20-2005 11:31 AM

2112 is quite possibly one of the best albums of all time.
Can anyone recomend me another song by "The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown" ?(they did, "Fire...I bring you to burn" etc.)

Bartender 01-20-2005 11:41 AM

That's the only song I know by them, unfortunately. I would also like to know something else by them though.

Verikansa 01-20-2005 12:34 PM

can anyone recomend some not to heavy not to soft songs I hate to use the word Mainstream because i dont believe in that word, but yeah i guess im looking for mainstream music thats good.

On another thread someone mentioned 40 Below Summer and i liked them so im looking for more like Breaking Benjamin or 40 Below Summer.

You forgot For Your Love, I bet that's the one you're thinking of.

bob the ripper apple. 01-20-2005 02:38 PM

can some one recommend me some bands that are similiar to opeth, preferably without keyboards. by the way i've already looked into borknagar. dont really like them that much.

Bartender 01-20-2005 02:48 PM

Farmakon, maybe. A bit faster than Opeth in general, but I remember a song of theirs (that I recommended) being reviewed as "TOTAL OPETH WORSHIP 10/10" in Forced Listening. Try the song Loosely of Amoebas.

Maybe also Agalloch. A little more folky, and also a little more inaccessible than Opeth, I think. Harsher, or bleaker, maybe. Excellent though. Try The Mantle (the album).
