Well there's the movie. And the DVD has special features with some interviews and insights, so the special features are kind of like a documentary.
Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' is so amazing. The incredible concept which is somewhat based on Roger Water's childhood is magnificant. Therefore 'The Wall' movie and album, surpasses 'Dark Side of the Moon' in my book.

I've been listening to that album a lot lately. I have DSOTHM, The Wall, and WYWH, what should be the next album? Maybe Animals?

Yes. Then Meddle.

I'd also like to say that The Wall was their worst album from 71-79.

Hmmm, I think that "honor" goes to Obscurred by Clouds, actually.

Meh, I don't count that one. I was under the impression it wasn't actually an "album." Seems it is. Oh well, I'll omit it anyway, because I kick ass.

 It's such garbage compared to Meddle and DSOTM.

I figured as much, which is why I've stayed far away from it.
I think I'll continue to do so.

Yeah, I know you secretly listen to it in the middle of the night when no one else is around.
The greatest guitarist of all time? No way! off the top of my head I can tell
you tons of other people that are much better. Roger is better with lyrics
enough said. Granted Gilmour has tons of talent. but still you can't say that
Dave is the best at anything...he was/is very good though
Name me 10 better guitarists. I can name 10 other guitarists who are great, but still nowhere near as good. (In no particular order):

1. Brian May (Queen)
2. Steve Howe (Yes)
3. Eric Clapton (Solo, Cream, Derek & the Dominoes, The Yardbirds)
4. Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
5. Slash (Guns 'n' Roses, Velvet Revolver)
6. Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits)
7. Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)
8. Randy Rhoads (Blizzard of Ozz)
9. Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
10. Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple)

Here, we see some of the greatest guitar players ever to have lived, but still they cannot live up to the standard of Dave Gilmour. I know that all have different styles, but they all have a certain level of skill. That level of skill, whichever guitarist you care to name, does not match up to Gilmour. I realise I am repeating myself a bit, but I cannot name a single other greater person ever to have lived. May sound extreme, but it's true.
I think JakLovesStrats is a fake account. That's the only explanation.

That being said, Gilmour's tone on TDB is like aural sex (omfg punz lol).
Fake account? How do you figure that one out?

Riva 11-22-2005 07:00 AM

Jak, I banned you for making comments like that, and then you come back and make more. Bloody hell.

And yes, a lot of the avant garde metal acts have Pink Floyd influences, also.

Eccles 11-22-2005 09:09 AM

I think Obscured by Clouds is Pink Floyd's most tragically underrated and unappreciated album. The opening tracks Obscured by Clouds and When You're In are just great rock music, with less of the ponderousness of the following albums. Wots... Uh The Deal is a ballad which rivals Wish You Were Here for sheer beauty, and Free Four is a great 70s pop/rock tune, something completely original in Floyd's catalogue (much like the rest of the album :))

OBC has some great slide guitar work aswell.

/would add more, but has to go to street law class

Doctor Night 11-22-2005 10:27 AM

So I'm planning on buying 'Relics' in a short amount of time. Is it any good. I'm buying it 'cos I've run out of them to buy, I have the famous four and I dunno what to get next. So I decided 'Relics.'

magicbus 11-22-2005 10:29 AM

Which albums do you have? Relics is kind of a compilation album, and IMO there are better ones you can buy first.

Animals, WYWH, DSOTM, TW = Floyds Famous Four.

Lunch 11-22-2005 10:37 AM

I would go with Meddle or Obscured By Clouds next to help make the transition to the early years. Or you could go all out and get Piper At the Gates of Dawn.

magicbus 11-22-2005 10:43 AM

Yea, I'd also suggest Meddle, then probably OBC. Meddle is tied with DSOTM and WYWH for my favorite Floyd album.

I can't choose :upset:

You should go with this option.

Yeah, when I first heard Piper, I despised it, but since then its grown on me a huge amount.

Get The Division Bell and Piper. Those are two of the best, and definitely don't get enough respect.

Naa, that album sucks......

I don't know how anyone could listen to such non-sense.

I would do it on the order they came out. That's always tons of fun

Why in the world do you need all of their albums? I don't understand anymore (even though I've done it several times) why someone would want to waste their time collecting every album a band has come out with when most of the albums are sub par at best. You could be exploring other great music instead of collecting these albums that you'll only listen to a few times and then trash later. I downloaded Pink Floyd's entire discography one time and ended up very disappointed with all the sub par albums they had. DON'T be blinded be all of the great albums you're hearing now (DSOTM, WYWH, Animals...etc) because not all of their music is great and you'll only end up disappointed. (or at least I was) Ended up deleting alot of them.

To be honest there are only 6 albums that (IMO) are really worth getting:

Piper At The Gates of Dawn
Meddle
Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Were Here
Animals
The Wall

Just my opinion...I know most will disagree.

I agree with you. I did that with Hendrix and Metallica. I was talking about this the other day, THis girl said she wanted all of Neil Youngs albums (like 30) I was like why? all I want are his big 5 and someone will probably give
me those. Then if I like the ones they give me maybe I'll decide to support
the bloody record company's who really care nothing for the artist. But maybe
he's a "Fanboy" who has lots of moeny to waste. Lord knows I'm not and I can't afford it. So thanks to everyone who creates mailing lists

I would add a few to that list, but that's mostly right. There are a few Floyd albums that IMO aren't consistently great, but I'll probably still buy most of them.
Why in the world do you need all of their albums? etc
I like at least half the songs on almost all of their albums, and some of the songs on the rest.
