Nick, I've been wanting to get into Johnny Cash lately and I need some recommendations. Can you recommend me good albums of his and tell me which one you think is the best?

I recommend The Legend of Johnny Cash CD that came out this year for beginners. It's an amazing and comprehensive greatest hits album spanning from his beginnings to his death.

Also The Essnetial Johnny Cash 2 CD is quite good.

If you want actual albums that aren't greatest hits I recommend With His Hot and Blue Guitar, Storytellers with Willie Nelson, American IV: The Man Comes Around, Carryin' On with June and John

I have all this stuff on soulseek as well.

I AM THE SKA BOSS YOU SILLY!

I want something that sounds like teenagers who can't play their instruments but are so furious and emotional that they make great music.

Thanks :thumb: Also, what kind of music would you consider him? Wasn't he considered a Rockabilly musician in his early years?

He auditioned for Sun Records as a gospel musician, was market as a rockabilly musician along with Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis, but was also considered a country musician. He goes back and forth between the rockabilly and country genres even up to his final album.

I can't believe my luck! My mom's friend just brought over an Essential Johnny Cash three disc set.

The three disc box set is marvelous. When I was first getting into Cash, I listened to the entire thing in one sitting, 3 hours of Cash. I was blown away.

Ghostfire3 01-01-2006 10:24 PM

There's some cool pictures in the booklet thing, like the one of him, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis.

Does anyone have any recommendations for any really good political music? I mean political music that is both intellectual and really passionate. Sort of like early Against Me! or something.

I can't put my finger quite on what I'm looking for, but I just blew a lot of money on music so I'm clean out. If anyone has anything they want to trade on AIM with me, I'd be more than happy to hit them back with a CD or two. My screen name is arsonmadeeasy.

AIRIC 01-02-2006 10:19 PM

Erik Petersen/Mischief Brew definintely.

Evan Greer. Type his name in google and search for Riot-Folk also, it's a label he's on. You can download the majority of his stuff for free. He's like Phil Ochs but if Phil Ochs was 20 years old now and not dead.

Other than loud, what do Lightning Bolt sound like?

Its mostly just intense noise rock, and alot of it is pretty fast and there isn't alot of vocals. There's some great riffs, and the drummer is absolutely insane, one of my favorites. I recommend you listen to their newest album, its called Hypermagic Mountain.

I was blown away when i first heard them, 'cos they sounded so different to anything i'd heard before. They take some getting used to, but they're cool as f'uck. I can only imagine what they'd be like live.

Anxious 01-04-2006 07:01 PM

I would have to bring earplugs for that, I've heard people have gotten lasting hearing loss from their shows.

If the vocals don't get to you you'll probably like the Meat Puppets.
How about some Hardcore? The only hardcore i really listen to is Refused.
Killing the Dream
Modern Life is War

I'm drawing a blank right now, but those two bands are hardcore bands I enjoy and I'm not huge on the genre.

TakeWarning 01-06-2006 01:19 AM

Hardcore:

Bane
Sinking Ships
Go It Alone
Blue Monday
Carry On
