I listened to it the second time today, i did realize it was actualy a good album, i don't think its as good as TETA though.

Bicuspid 10-19-2005 09:59 PM

A Speculative Fiction
Fixed Frequencies
Iteration
Fedalliah's Hearse
Rock for Sustainable Capitalism (Bashes the hell out of Fat Mike on this one.)
Cut into the Earth (Great mellow, jazzy feel to it; even in the harder parts it still maintains that mellow feel. Definitely a lot different from most of their ventures)

The album is a lot less Thrashier than TETA, that threw me off a bit on first listen; but the melodies, lyrics, vocals, drumming, etc are put together so well it floored me by the second listen. This album has so much undertone and various things going on, you don't really pick up on most of it by the first listen. Lyrically, I think it's their best to date, easily. It's a lot less angry in comparison to older albums, but it seems to be thought out a lot more. Not to say a single bad thing about past lyrics, these just seem more direct. Probably the best way I could describe the comparison.

Rock for Sustainable Capitalism is the best song on the album. Die Jugend Maschiert is also awesome. The other songs are all good.

I still feel it's slightly over-produced though.

fatwreckpunk 10-20-2005 05:30 AM

I feel its not as good as it could have been, they have gone for a diverse sound in a lot of the songs

shutup.

TakeWarning 10-20-2005 06:04 AM

I forget, are Propagandhi on Fat Wreck, because if they are, then why would Fat Mike allow them to release Rock for Sustainable Capitalism.

feldwebel 10-20-2005 07:53 AM

cause they have total control over their music!

thats why fat wreck is great.

Cause Fat Mike would say, "Nay, ye coked-up canucks, you can't sing what you want about me! I'LL DROP YOU FROM THE LABEL!"

albert_bass 10-20-2005 08:05 AM

^Yeah, I don't know what happens with some of you guys and Fat Wreck, it's a pretty good label and of course they'll let you have opinions.

I completely agree. Pretty awesome though even being overproduced.

MrClean 10-20-2005 08:07 AM

Just listened to the album, and damn.. It's great :D Not their best album [I liked 'Less Talk, More Rock' more], but still very good..

Bringer of Greater Things, Name And Address Withheld and Rock for Sustainable Capitalism are my favorite songs of this album..

sketchyjoe 10-20-2005 08:44 AM

Some of the songs feel slightly drawn out.

Yeah, that'd be my one complaint about it. But they fill most of it with excellent lyrics (unlike a lot of other bands who wouldn't have as awesome lyrics to begin with, and then would repeat lyrics to elongate their songs).

its not as good as everyone thinks it is. Give me todays empires, tomorrows ashes any day over this !!!!!!!!!!!!

Your opinion doesn't count or matter to anyone in the world. When they release their next album, you'll be crying about how much more you liked potemkin city limits. I also happen to think it is as good as everyone says because they put a lot of work into it, I can tell. I love jordan's drumming in this one.

Yeah, it is. If you have any appreciation for musicianship, lyrics, and style complimenting substance, you'll agree.

Good.

Buzzbomb 10-20-2005 02:30 PM

I come to like this album more with each listen, its not gonna leave my cd player for awhile. Jord's drumming is the best work hes done.

Bicuspid 10-20-2005 02:57 PM

I don't think it's over produced at all. The effects they put in compliment the songs completely, the mix is evenly balanced, nothing overshadows, it isn't muddy, yet it isn't too crisp, just crisp enough. The low end is just right where it isn't over bearing, but it sounds full. I thought they did a great job with the production.

Teeb 10-20-2005 03:04 PM

I was hoping "Name and Address Withheld" would be different from the one on the G7 comp.

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 10-20-2005 03:35 PM

I want to buy it, but I'm saving for the new xbox :(

I just think there's a little of rawness lost in the production, but it's still great.

Rockafella 10-20-2005 03:43 PM

I saw it at a record store a week ago for $14.99 and I didn't buy it because I am cheap.

lynch_me 10-20-2005 04:36 PM

Stop whining.

carl 10-20-2005 06:00 PM

It looks like I'll be interviewing them when they come through town. Anything anyone curious about that I should ask about?

Ask If they still have a good relationship with John.
