I listin to Korn and stuff like that
Okay. Let me think for a minute... Okay, here's some new bands and some relatively new ones who are worth a look:

Iced Earth
Kamelot
Lunatica
Wuthering Heights
Lost Horizon
Children of Bodom
Kalmah
Norther
Skyfire
Cryonic Temple
DragonForce
Firewind
Human Fortess
Melechesh
Opeth
Wintersun

Some of those are more extreme than others, but they've all got very strong qualities.

Shattered_Future 07-03-2005 10:21 PM

Add to list: Nightwish, Nile, and Arch Enemy.

Otherwise, a good list.

James Van Halen 07-03-2005 10:21 PM
I wasn't saying that just because i like mudvayne, i actually don't like them it just sounds like a stupid thing to say lol "i can play all of their songs" that is a pretty weird thing to say, but i guess your answer was pretty reasonable
Point taken, I should've been more exact with what I said.
I just find Slipknot to be obnoxious garbage with nothing particularly musically interesting. I never really say them as anything groundbreaking or even special to begin with.

Not in relation to the music, but I also think their singer is a pretentious ***.

Anyway, that's just my stance. I feel that the American metal scene has watered down significantly since the explosive surfacing of the death metal scene in the late 80's. There are still good bands here, but they're getting harder and harder to find.
I agree. Most good metal these days isn't in America. Sweden and Norway are my favorite countries as far as metal is concerned. America still has great bands like Iced Earth and Nile to it's name though.

Yea...American metal is slowly circling the drain...

Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall are decent though.

Steerpike 07-03-2005 10:24 PM

Actually I forgot a lot of bands.

Nightwish
Nile
Arch Enemy
Angra
Edguy
Hammerfall
Symphony X
Mastodon

James Van Halen 07-03-2005 10:25 PM

I like some of Shadows Fall, but i'm not big on Killswitch Engage.

Shattered_Future 07-03-2005 10:26 PM

Rhapsody? Sonata Arctica?

I'm just throwing out power metal bands off the top of my head...its late, and i can't think straight.

James Van Halen 07-03-2005 10:26 PM

I might get killed for this, but I still enjoy a lot of Dimmu Borgir. Everybody hates them now, but I really enjoy their orchestrated stuff.

Shattered_Future 07-03-2005 10:27 PM
I like some of Shadows Fall, but i'm not big on Killswitch Engage.
Well, more "popular" metal bands, mind you...

I'm sure there's some great underground metal act that the US hasn't discovered yet.

And Dimmu Borgir is decent...i think they go a bit over the top with their image, but they have a few decent tunes.

RiceMonster 07-03-2005 10:28 PM

It seems Blind Guardian was left out of that list.

I'd also like to add:
Ulver
Immortal
Emperor
Darkthrone
Cryptopsy
In Flames
Lykathea Aflame
Mithras

James Van Halen 07-03-2005 10:30 PM

Is Otep any good?

Shattered_Future 07-03-2005 10:31 PM

Hey...i forgot there were other genres than metal there for a minute.

Stupid non-sleepiness...

Anyway...heres a few decent non-metal bands.

Alterbridge
Strung Out
Rise Against
Tool
311
Cold

Can't think of any more at the moment...

Shattered_Future 07-03-2005 10:32 PM
Is Otep any good?
Depends if you like the ultra-heaviness opposed to melody...

Personally, i like them. The chick from that band can outscream dozens, if not hundreds, of others, including guys.

RiceMonster 07-03-2005 10:32 PM
Hey...i forgot there were other genres than metal there for a minute.
What is wrong with you? There are no other genres! :p

James Van Halen 07-03-2005 10:32 PM

Please do not repeat the name of Alterbridge in a list of "decent" bands ever again. ;)

Shattered_Future 07-03-2005 10:34 PM
Please do not repeat the name of Alterbridge in a list of "decent" bands ever again.
Please open up your mind and do not judge the band just because they had former Creed members in it.

Seriously, Tremorti (sp?) can bust out great solos, and they have great guitar riffs as well. The drums, while they could be better, aren't complete crap, and the singing is heartfelt and emotional.

Sounds like a decent band to me...guess it all depends on your taste.

Steerpike 07-03-2005 10:34 PM
Please do not repeat the name of Alterbridge in a list of "decent" bands ever again. ;)
Alterbridge actually aren't bad. But Tremonti was way too over-zealous on that record. His solos slipped into the masturbatory too often.

Metalhead1409 07-03-2005 10:44 PM

I like alterbridge more than creed. never really got into them

Steerpike 07-03-2005 10:46 PM

Are any of you going to check out those Lunatica uploads I put up at all?

RiceMonster 07-03-2005 10:55 PM
Are any of you going to check out those Lunatica uploads I put up at all?
I'm listening to it now; excellent stuff :thumb:

Steerpike 07-03-2005 10:58 PM

Tell everyone else in the thread that. It's ridiculous what I have to go through to get people to listen to me when I tell them I've found a great band worth their attention.

Immortalsoul 07-04-2005 02:49 PM
Dimmu Bogir is a good band but them and slipknot is like the fastest bands they know of . Slipknot are sellouts.
Yep Slipknot are sell outs! Lets see: 3 Multi-Platinum selling albums, Sell out tours with other great bands, Very successful side projects, Um... Did I miss something? It's cool if you don't like them, but to say they are sell outs is just plain ignorant. :thumb:

James Van Halen 07-05-2005 12:43 AM

My appologies, but Alterbridge sounds way too much like Creed for me to stoumach. I have no doubts that Tremonti has talent, but he wastes it on crappy music IMO.

To claim that they aren't sell outs 'cause they're succesfull is much more ignorant.

mr black 07-05-2005 05:56 AM

All i can say is ...wOOt :smash:

blacklantern 07-05-2005 06:16 AM

let everyone Woot away!!!! Wooooooooooooooooooooooooot! Woot! Woot!

James Van Halen 07-05-2005 11:01 AM

Eh?

superdigg 07-05-2005 11:07 AM

eh, lame thread. it's not really an open question.

Not quite inverted pentagrams, but I've seen similar things. Jesus jumping Christ on a crutch, how I hate that.

Jev 07-15-2005 08:51 AM

I don't know i'm into metal and the scene in my area is punk/indie so i rarely meet any metalheads and i don't know what a punk poser's like.
