OMG. Today Saturnus requested that I be their friend on myspace instead of me hunting them down to request an add. I must be popular in the e-music world.

Everyone should go listen to Subterranean Masquerade. A bit of a progressive symphonic doom super group.

Has anyone here heard Slumber? They released an EP that was a rerecording of their two demos. I suppose melodic doom is what to call them. Quite good but they have a tendency to get a littole old. Listen to Rapture if you can find it.

I like a lot of stoner rock aka fuzz rock or whatever you want to call it. Kyuss, Fireball Ministry, QOTSA, Fu Manchu, and Black Sabbath who is pretty stoner rock even though there not really considered it.

Not sure if they've done anything else prior to now, but they have an album due out within the next month or so.

Good job! I've been listening to the split they did with Reverend Bizarre. Such a great band. I'd kill to see them live. Put it this way they come across better than RB! Which is saying something!
I love candlemass and My Dying Bride.

I own every MDB album 0_0 money well spent
I have "As The Flower Withers" and I would consider more black metal than Doom Metal

Jondur 05-13-2005 06:26 AM

It's more death metal really and not that representative of their later stuff. Of which Angel and the Dark River may be a good indication of their style.

Still doom death though.

At the moment I'm listening to While Heaven Wept: Chapter One. It's an anthology of all their work up to 1999. And it's really rather good. Not as polished as Of Empires Forlorn but the quality is still there.

Dancin' Man 05-13-2005 08:13 AM

Stopping in to metnion that October Tide are awesome. Is it a trend among doom bands to have months in their name? Novermber's Doom, October Tide... are there any more?

Wow, you've heard of November's Doom as well? They're awesome.

Anyway, I don't know about the doom bands-months trend, but if you look at it, all of those bands with certain months in their names have months that occur during Fall (or autumn or whatever you want to call it), which is a pretty gloomy time of the year. So if you think about it, those names are perfect for doom bands.

Dancin' Man 05-13-2005 07:41 PM

While December - February are black metal months. Dark and cold.

I want to know what Jon has to say about Slumber.

Jondur 05-16-2005 03:58 AM

I've never heard them. Maybe I'll try and download tonight (no-no to downloading at work!)

Hope you're all well.

SK_Metalhead666 05-25-2005 09:37 PM

My Dying Bride and Cult of Luna

joe_fresh 05-26-2005 11:03 AM

jondur, or anyone else, recommend me a new band (doom, that is), obviously not one which i, or anyone else has mentioned on this thread. cheers

Jondur 05-27-2005 06:13 AM

errr - I've forgotten who has and hasn't been mentioned! But try some of the following (sorry I can't upload anything anymore - Nazi work IT people!)

Warning - stole the show at doom shall rise, absolutely crushing!
Cambian Dawn - great St Vitus style doom.
Icefall - only did demos so good luck finding them!
Isole - used to be called Forlorn, ace melodic epic doom
Gorilla Monsoon - seriously - they sound like Thee Plague of Gentlemen.
Iron Hearse - UK band playing in a The Obsessed stylee
Iron Man - been going forever!

joe_fresh 05-28-2005 09:38 AM

i liked gorilla monsoon, the songs on their site are pretty good

isole are quality band, i own forevermore, its an amazing album

I shall have a look at the others later

Hauntedman 05-31-2005 11:25 AM

Only got into doom because of Sabbath, but am big fan of Cathedral, Electric Wizard and My Dying Bride. Can Iron Monkey be classed as doom or stoner metal?

BTW Cathedral seemed to follow Sabbath in every way. i.e. going a bit soft on some later albums before turning heavier again on Endtyme.

Jondur 06-01-2005 04:53 AM

Iron Monkey aren't doom really. They're more hardcore influenced, stick em next to EyehateGod.

Can highly recommend Orodruin to you though. Much better than Cathedral etc.

joe_fresh 06-01-2005 05:01 AM

anyone heard any memento mori, i picked up live, death and other morbid tales, la danse macabre and songs for the apocalypse the other day from a mate who didnt like them. They're pretty good, although the albums with messiah are the best, and the most doomy.

I also got the new candlemass album, its a good album.

Jondur 06-03-2005 03:51 AM

Joe - Can you upload some Memonto Mori? I've wanted to hear them for ages but never quite got round to it for some reason.

sure, anything from any specific album?

Jondur 06-03-2005 04:34 AM

Tell you what - send me an email: jonathon_gibbs@hotmail.com and we'll do a couple of CDR trades? I'm sure I've got some out-of-print stuff that might be of interest to you.

its a good plan but my cd burner is shagged. Its been broke for nearly half a year, but have not got round to getting a new one. I shall try to get one this weekend, finances permitting.

Meanwhile, any memento mori you want specifically, or shall i just upload a few tracks from different albums?

Jondur 06-03-2005 06:27 AM

That's the one :thumb:

Grey Incision 06-03-2005 07:05 AM

Hmmm. I'm new to the doom metal stuff. But from what i have heard, i really enjoy it.

Only heard

Swallow the sun-Deadly nightshade
All Isis stuff
Old Katatonia stuff, namely Brave

I know it is probably nothing at all, but if this is an indication of doom, i will like it. I just wanna hear, slower, drawn out tunes, with longer, drawn out demonic sounding growls :).

By the way, heard Kyuss, and i happen to think it's fairly dodge. so sorry to all stoner fans, but my opinions suck:(
