Not a bass tap on the ToT album.
errr.... how about the intro to This Dying Soul? With the tap harmonics being played under the chug riff? Or the section just before the 'Don't cross the crooked step' on Honor Thy Father? Just after the 'watch the way you talk' and the shred bit? Admitedly, they're the only two sections, but there IS bass tapping on the album. :p |
I got the Metroplis 2000 DVD for Christmas, and I was very Impressed. The performance was incredeble, but I didn't think to highly of the short skits it had on it. I really like how they included everyone who was involved in the recording, such as the choir.

I got The Budokan cd for christmas. OMG HOW GOOD. Im sorry.
People that criticize Dream Theater in a negative manner either:
a.) Are musically retarded. b.) Listen to rap. c.) Don't try anything new. d.) All of the above. [EDIT]: Any information about the new album coming soon?
i like dream theater and all, but people that critizice dream theater are not musically retarded, maybe they like shorter simpler music, or they like a more melodic feel to guitar solos, or maybe they dont like heavy metal. There are many reasons to hate DT, they are not an easy band to listen to. |
^ statements B and C also seem hypocritical to me.
Has anyone else had any trouble seeing the bonus material on the Train of Thought cd? I've tried the link from the DT site and it hasn't worked. Is it worth the effort trying to see it?
Didn't worked for me... That sucks |
I've recently started to try out DT, but so far the songs i've got are all softer, balladlike or acoustic songs. That's great and all, but i'd like some heavier stuff.
Any suggestions? |
the glass prison is a heavier song :thumb:

Buy Images and Words.
You won't be disapointed. Best Dream Theater album in my opinion. On a side note I finally learned my first DT song fully through. Through Her Eyes. :) It may be the simpilest DT song out there but I'm happy. :) |

Alright: I wan't to by a dream theater album, but I don't know wich I should start with. I only heard one song but one of my friends (that got almost same music taste as me) want me to by one.
could you suggest one please? (wich is the best one) |
Well it all depends on what sound you wanna start with. Dream Theater dances around with sounds (like every progressive band) If you wanna hear the real heavy side of Dream Theater, pick up Train Of Thought, if you wanna hear the real technical side, pick up Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence, if your'e into eighties metal with all that high pitched squeling, pick up Dream Theater's debut album- When Dream And Day Unite, if you wanna hear the all around thing, pick up A Change Of Seasons (EP), If you wanna hear heave with some strong keyboard wizidry, pick up Awake, if you wanna hear eighties metal ,mixed with technical sounds and odd- timesignature filled tunes, pick up Images And Words, the debut album with current singer James LaBrie. The album I started out with was Scenes From A Memory- a concept album wich connects with a song on Images And Words. Scenes From A Memory is FILLED with trure keyboard wizidry, done by current keyboard player Jordan Rudess. It also features some heavy tunes, some quite mellow tunes and not quite so technical as Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence or Images And Words. Hope that helped.

When Dreams And Day Unite is their first cd, which dosen't feature James Labrie but is still a powerful album with some great songs (YTES Jam) Images has more of their 80's style in their, but has some very good songs (Learning To Live, Take The Time, Metropolis), A Change Of Seasons is basically 1 song and a whole bunch of covers, but the titled track is all you really need, an epic 23 minute masterpiece is well worth it. Awake is going back to their early roots but is a great album with some unforgettable songs (Lie, Erotomania, Caught In A Web). Scenes From A Memory..Basically the best concept album i've ever seen, This cd is a MUST BUY for anyone, regardless if your a DT fan or not, Some great songs are (Dance Of Eternity, Finally Free, Home, Overture 1928). Six Degrees Of Inner Turbluence is where i think they got the most technical and stepped it up in the heaviness and with a 42 minute EPIC piece on the second cd which is absolutely orgasmic :) Id well suggest it to anyone, some great songs (The Glass Prison, The Great Debate, Blind Faith, And the whole Six Degree's Of Inner Turbluence Piece itself. Train Of Thought..Undisputed, the most heavy album from Dream Theater and all the songs are very catchy, Some very good solo'ing on this cd even though lots of people disagree, some good songs (As I Am, This Dying Soul, In The Name Of God) |
Anyone else find the intro to Dissapear kinda creepy?
Very haunting indeed, also the way James sings some of the vocals sends shivers down my spine like " So I'm moving on, I'll never forget as you laid there and watched me. I gave you my hand, I sais its okay, letting go, its time to leave here. And I'll carry on, the best that I can withoutyou here beside me, let Him come take you home." And that little bit of piano comes in with the intro repeade and it fades out, just as I said before, its a very haunting tune, same with Space Dye Vest from Awake. |
I didn't find Disappear creepy, more like really melancholic and depressing.
|
That's because its about James LaBrie's mother's passing I believe.
