^ Err no,the follow up album will be the same death vs. melodic that opeth have always done. Mikael Akerfeldt was quizzed on the radio about a possible BM album by Andrew Hoag last time they were in Australia.
Mikeal stated that at the time of making the documentry he was in the process of writing one of the heaviest songs for the new album, and that he was considering doing a full concept BM album then. He has since decided to scrap that idea and continue to make music for opeth generally the way that it has always been.

I cant wait :D

Kaiwaz 08-12-2004 08:05 PM

Explain always been? Morningrise always been? Still Life Always been? or just plain Opeth always been, as in playing what they feel?

deadinholywood 08-12-2004 08:13 PM

The albums are always going to be completely different to each other (ie. BWP vs. morningrise) but the same element of Melodic/death metal will be there. I wouldnt want them to sound exactly like they did still life etc.
It will not be a BM album

Kaiwaz 08-12-2004 08:18 PM

What is your Favourite Opeth Lp and Why? How has it Changed your life? What is the most Dramatic Opeth Song IYO?{In Your Opinion} And finally what do you think their new LP should sound like?

I lament this heritage
Cannot bid farewell
The pale face...you went as far as you could
And from that moment
I witnessed your beauty, fealt your death
Mine is yours, mine is yours
In the wake of dawn
The mist of morning linger before it leaves

*sigh* I don't know if I can answer that, being that I've only heard BWP and ****ation. "The Funeral Portrait" really does it for me, though.

I vote we "Official" this thread.

I'll second that.

Kaden 08-12-2004 10:01 PM

I want to buy every Opeth cd, all in one go. I'm gonna try to find them at a used cd store nearby soon. I'm dying only having Deliverance :upset:

LeperAffinity 08-12-2004 10:03 PM

You're missin out man...I mean Deliverance isn't a bad cd, but it doesn't do Opeth justice. The other albums just blow it away.

Yeah, I get the feeling it's their worst one.

I've heard other Opeth songs though, and I used to own ****ation (it got confiscated by an English teacher though). Blackwater Park is my favorite song ever.

Yeah great song. I would like to know how they came up for the concept for the song To Bid You Farewell. The bass is really eerie in that song. I mean some strange Notes along with the guitars. Crazy song. Would have to be my Fav Opeth song aside from Black Rose Immortal.

Yeah. Agreed...I do like Deliverance but it isn't up to their standards IMO. The Masters Apprentices is my Favourite tune from that LP. I have recently been listening to a lot of the "hearse", trying to play the intro to the song When...It's ****ing impossible. I can play all sorts of stuff but the intro is quite hard to play and get it to sound right. Some strange chord structures are involved. I can pretty much play all of Karma...Jazz chords start it out, sounds badass! :thumb:

Kafkastolemyslippers 08-13-2004 05:07 PM

My favorite Opeth CD is ****ation...wierd, huh? Although Morningrise is close.

DirgeforNovember 08-13-2004 05:18 PM

My Arms, Your Hearse... my favorite album from Opeth. Great stuff.

-Listy- 08-13-2004 05:25 PM

is anyones least fave album Still Life..or is it me..dont get me wrong i have all their albums..but i dunno..its still a good album..maybe i havent listened to it enough for it to grow on me..
Orchids my fave followed by Morningrise :thumb:

IvortheEngineDriver 08-13-2004 08:44 PM

^^^^^

My least favorite is My Arms...I love the first 2 songs but I don't really like the others. But, I haven't listened to My Arms in a little bit, I forget sometimes.

But to answer Flynn's question...my favorite is still Blackwater Park. I remember just listening to the first 4 songs off of it (Leper Affinity, Bleak, Harvest, Drapery Falls) with my jaw on the floor and then...holy ****, the title track. When ever Mike sings "Mod round the dead"...I ****ing lose it! With the bass slapping in the backround...I think its almost an orgasm when I hear it ;)

But, the best song, to me is still Drapery Falls. Just beautifully haunting and the lyrics are amazing. The guitar in the front...the only word I can describe it is epic, just amazing...Then when it slows down, how bad *** is that "Spirling to the ground below, like autumn leaves left in the wake to fade away. Waking up to your sound again and lapse into the ways of misery" <-----Just amazing

BTW, Flynn, I answered your question about why Mike doesn't like The Night and the Silent Water a few pages back...You're welcome ;)

For me, Everytime I listen to Opeth, I end up righting a new guitar riff. Its just like something goes off in my head. I **** you not.

Not surprising...when I listen to Opeth, tons of lyrics pop into my head...Opeth just inspires you.

Often I think "Man, I like that word...I need to use that in a song" or something like that...Another reason to love Opeth

Still Life does grow on you. It used to be my least listened to Opeth LP. It's been in my CD player in my Truck for 2 months straight now. Yes, it does grow on you. Still Life IMO is their most intricate Lp they have recorded. I can't explain why in words. The guitar work is strange. I mean they recorded chords I don't think anyone even knew about  but seriously though...Very well put together LP. Orchid and Morningrise are badass too. No other cd's I own can even come CLOSE to their complexity. Still Life took me by surprise. I wasn't expecting it to sound like that and thats what makes it grow on ya. It totally sounds nothing like The "Hearse" and a long shot from Orchid/Morningrise. Like vines it grows on you.

I shant resist. In tears for all of eternity.
She turned around and faced me for the first time.
Run away, run away. Just one second, and I was left with nothing.
Her fragrance still pulsatingthrough damp air.
That day came to an end.
And she had lost in me, her Credence

I just bought MAYH a few days ago and have listened to it twice. When I first heard the reviews I was immensely excited, but when I listened to it, I was let down. I was expecting so much more. I have only listened to it twice though. Nothing stood out yet and I hope that will change as soon as I get more listens in.

Morningrise still stands as my favorite album (not just Opeth). Every track on that CD is.. AHH!!! I mainly like the distorted harmonies or whatever you'd like to call them.

*still hasn't found Still Life*
I had to post this. A lot of my old fav bands have sold out and most of the crap I listened to 5-10 years ago just flat out suck now. I bought a CD last year entitled Orchid by Opeth. Lemme tell you...It opened my mind to Music. I listened to Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera etc when I was younger, I am talking the early 90's. There are a select few good bands that have been out there forever and havn't sold out. Slayer, Iron Maiden etc. But Opeth...I don't think It's possible. if you havn't heard of them or heard them I suggest Buying ALL of their CD's. The most Intricate band In my opinion. Songs average around 13 minutes...And you just want MORE!!! The first song I heard by Opeth was In Mist She Was Standing. I had goosebumps....Just when I thought There were no good bands out there Opeth rescued me.

Opeth has no Genre. They are Opeth :thumb:

any reccomendations for cd's to listen to?

PeEpHoLe_10 08-15-2004 09:01 PM

^^^
If your new to Opeth get Blackwater Park. Cant go wrong there.

relliK 08-15-2004 09:18 PM

^^^Its the best introduction to Opeth.I second the Blackwater Park recommendation.

bucket 08-15-2004 09:51 PM

BWP was my first and boy was I happy.

I think Bleak was the song that got me into growling.

they are definitely an inspiration. Whenever I play guitar, I'm always trying to fool around with a few riffs that have an Opeth feel to it. Haven't really written any songs though. hehe

bucket 08-18-2004 08:46 PM

What other bands do you all listen to? I am having a difficulty finding anything that I enjoy as much as Opeth.

Suggestions?

Dancin' Man 08-18-2004 08:53 PM

I just found Opeth a few days ago.....Awesome. My favorite CD's seem to be Blackwater Park and Damnation

Deathless One 08-18-2004 09:12 PM

I've yet to find a band like Opeth. I love 'em though - need to pick up one of their CDs. Suggestions? My favourite song is The Drapery Falls...

bucket 08-18-2004 09:16 PM

Blackwater Park seems to be the most frequently recommended for starters and it's also one of best. The Drapery Falls is on that one.

My personal favorite is Morningrise. Oh my God, it is awesome.

Check out the CD Reviews for 6 out of 7 Opeth albums.
