You tried to make this joke already. If no one quoted it with an  smiley, then it wasn't that funny. ;)

Azhi Dhaki was a Sumerian hydra, and that culture was near the dawn of civilization. So I think that pwns any silly made-up mythology that Dragonlance comes up with. Matter of fact, you want a quick lesson in ancient mythology you should listen to more Therion. :)

It's also similar to the name of a very depressing ambient black metal album.

Sumerian/Mesopotamian mythology goes hand-in-hand with all extreme metal. Matter of fact, all mythology does.

Typhon
Tiamat
Marduk
Kingu
Nidhogg
Fafnir
Quetzalcoatl
Midgardsormr
Fenrir
Skoll
Garmr

Those names are all of mythological beasts, and more than a few are used by extreme metal bands either as song titles or band names.

EDIT: Vikingcore, I was just in a stinky mood because my girlfriend made me return a library book in the rain. Don't take it personally. :)

Yeah, I was thinking that once I get some sort of metal band underway I'd borrow names from mythology. I also found a name I'd like to use for my black metal project that I found in Beowulf.

I thought her skit about how much it must suck to work at the help phone line on the back of the shampoo bottle was funny.

"Yes, sir, about the size of a quarter. Hmmm? No, it can't be two dimes and a nickel."

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-16-2005 10:19 PM

I can hardly ever remember funny quotes, but I still try to quote people from stand up routines or movies, and I end up effing it up. There's nothing more unfunny than an effed up quote. :upset:

It is still in theaters?

Good thing you said "all mythology does" because I was going to call you on the fact that all but 4 of those are Norse monsters. :) And Quetzalcoatl is either a God or a pterosaur, not a mythological monster. :)

Mayan, wasn't it?

Besides, it's either a Central American God of prosperity or a large flying reptile the size of a Tiger Moth.
Quetzalcoatl is an Aztec god, I believe.
Im not sure if it was a God, but it think it was like a bird with characteristics from a reptile. It was like the link between dinosaurs and brids.

EDIT: It was an Aztec God, i was confusing it with Archaeopteryx :D

No, that was a different animal all together. In fact, new research points to the fact that a lot of dinosaurs were actually feathered. In fact, birds may have been more closely linked to dinosaurs then we thought.

The pterosaurs, plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs were all of a different type of reptile that has no evolutionary descendant.

Is it just me, or is "East Hastings (II. Sad Mafioso)" quite possibly the greatest thing that GY!BE have ever recorded? That, or "Sleep (II. Monheim)". Yes, I am refering to the specific movements. These sections display GY!BE at their finest, I think.

Actually, all but five.

Marduk: the hero who slayed Tiamat in Sumerian/Mesopotamian/Persian mythology.
Tiamat: The "mother dragon."
Kingu: Tiamat's consort.
Typhon: The Greek beast born to Echidne and...someone...with a hundred dragon heads who was so powerful that he caused the Olympian gods to flee to Egypt until Zeus succeeded in burying him under a mountain in Sicily.
And finally Quetzalcoatl, a diety of the Aztecs.

Quetzalcoatl took the form of some weird bird-dragon thing, but yeah he was an Aztec God, not a beast. And also the largest of the classified pterosaurs last time I checked.

I think I might see The Red Paintings tomorrow night, originally I wasn't going to since I've seen them plenty this year, and I was going to see another band, Melodyssey the night after. Might just do both. I feel bold.
