AG 03-18-2010 01:07 PM

Sooo today was tons of fun. I made....wait for it....wait for it....

A SLINGBOW!

Yep, a bow made from a slingshot, for easy portability and cost effectiveness.

Pretty easy to make, didn't cost the earth (£10 for the barnett black widow slingshot, £15 for the whisker biscuit, £1 for miscellanoious bits of type III paracord and cable ties and £3 per arrow) and works incredibly well.

There is a mod online which details how to make one and add a bow-fishing attachement (some string that attaches to a spool on the bow and then your arrow, so you can retrieve a loosed arrow and whatever you hit) which I might think about, but for now this is finished.

She's accurate - 1/2" grouping from 5m and hits hard, I got 2cm into a phonebook (my air pistols don't do that)

Anywhoos, I fancy finding some land and shooting some longer distances. I might reduce the length of the powerbands so I can get a little more tension; but the trade off is band life. Also, I want some of these hunting heads but they're a rip at about £5 ea (and I think they'd break pretty easy)

http://www.teraasekeskus.com/tuotteet/zhaoshi/ZhaoshiMets%C3%A4stysK%C3%A4rkiNet.jpg

Anywhoos, ya'll should make one.

Aes820 03-18-2010 05:41 PM

Reckon you could kill a bunny with that?

AG 03-18-2010 06:13 PM

Not humanely, not straight out.

I don't think you could pierce the skull on a headshot, so instant death is out of the question, but you could hit it hard enough to stun it (giving you time to run up and snap it's neck).

I'd prefer to use my rifle to kill rabbits. The only thing I'd be comfortable killing with the slingbow is fish.

Left Face Down 03-18-2010 06:55 PM

AG cares about the bunny rabbits. Giving them a quick and painless death.

AG 03-19-2010 04:33 AM

Tron looks a-freaking-mazing.

I watched 'Moon' last night, excellent film. Defo recommended.

JoshIsNumber3 03-19-2010 05:34 AM

Moon is definitely great, Sam Rockwell is coming into his own as an actor. Also highly recommended Up in the Air and Crazy Heart.

Of course, you have to treat game with respect. If you don't you're no better than the scum that kick dogs about for fun.

Sad But True 03-19-2010 09:44 AM

It was actually a super soaker that was suggested, but the only one I can get my hands on before saturday night is a super hueg fucker that will destroy me everytime I try to drink.

motogrifo 03-19-2010 10:28 AM

Bruce E Kinesis 03-19-2010 10:55 AM

seriously when did guitar forum die such a death

and how did it come to pass that "pedals" deserved a single thread

Left Face Down 03-19-2010 12:15 PM

Grumpy old men are funny. There is this local shop that is literally a father & son business, no one else works there and ever has to my knowledge. The son looks like a guy who never made anything of himself and is at the family business yet only knows what he has learned while working there. While the old man is grumpy and set in his ways.

Does help that I agree with 80% of what he says, but the guy knows his stuff. Though I don't know how many parents with their kids would allow the guy to call Guitar Center "any old whore house" like he did when I was chatting with him.

Edit: Oh yeah, back to not sure if I want a strat or tele. Thing is in my Talman I have a 5 way switch where the middle switch is the bottom coil of the bridge and the top coil of the neck. It is a great clean sound to say the least. The Tele's middle-position reminds me of it a lot.

Though I did learn something new today. Fender apparently recently released the "Special Series" which has the Texas special pickups I liked and is American made. It's still $800, which sits it between the $600 of the Deluxe and the $1k for the American Standard.

I'll let you know what I do when I have the money of course. Until then I will ramble on for at least two paragraphs every other day until I do.

Edit 2:

One thing I've never been able to do, finger pick. Is it just me or did they make the letters for your fingers P, I, M, A for a reason? Like it is a Pain In My Ass.

Fish bowl. With or without fish tbh.

Left Face Down 03-19-2010 02:59 PM

One of my friends use to dump shots of alcohol into his fish's bowl when he was drunk. Surprised that thing lived the 7 months it did.

sup lod, any business majors in here?

if so, look at this, we're doing some ongoing group project thing thats a business simulation, pretty much we run a simulated business, and if we do it wrong we run it into the ground, but if we do it right we make imaginary millions of dollars.

i'm really surprised how bad some of these groups are doing, whats even more surprising is the groups that are doing the worst are the ones comprised of what i would consider to be the smart people in class.

bet you cant guess which group i'm in

mnemonic - I think your group is Digby.

Left Face Down 03-20-2010 04:15 PM

I think I'm in love.

Mesa Boogie Express 5:25 25W 1x12 Amplifier + Fender American Standard Series Stratocaster

Beautiful cleans, enough gain for me (my Peavey XXX can put out more than I like), and it even has a blues channel which gives that wonderful slightly over driven sound. <3 <3 <3 Now I just need a good job. C'mon economy, revive!

------------------------------

In other news I got some Schaller Strap Locks for my Talman as the strap always slips off the little nipples of pegs that thing has. My RGs have huge ones, kind of a pain to get the straps on and off, so I don't have to worry about them.

So did I screw myself out getting Schaller or what guys? I read a bunch of reviews and they seem to be the only ones that didn't have a "I used these for x months and then they wouldn't hold" story.

ferris, actually

AG 03-20-2010 05:57 PM

My wife spent £85 on running gear for me today, we went for a 5k afters.

Current running experience: None
Current fitness level: Fatass, gets tired walking up hill
Current speed: 9.20min miles.

Left Face Down 03-20-2010 06:01 PM

9.20 minute per mile doesn't sound like "Fatass, gets tired walking up hill" territory. I've never really been a runner. My best workouts have always been sprinting short distances, then walking about half the distance I sprinted; rinse and repeat.
