I downloaded them, but I haven't listened to them yet. I'm watching a Have I Got News For You DVD :)

Here's another upload of mine though, again for a different thread initially. It's just a zip file of a few Kraftwerk songs.

http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=34NG4MV2NN4MB3VMQXYTB59WV4

I've only ever heard a few minutes of his stand-up, but he didn't strike me as particularly funny :-/ Definitely not best-ever status, at least.
Actually, I think I like Bill Hicks more then him now, after cracking up so much at his work that you uploaded.

For some reason, Greg Girlado just appeals to me, but maybe he's not for everyone. :)

Listen to the song Soul Power '74 first, it will blow you away.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-23-2005 06:21 PM

I read his routine that you posted a while back, ATM. It made me lol.

I've heard Soul Power '74. Great song.

My favorite comedians include, but are not limited to: Mitch Hedberg, Zach Galifianakis, Dane Cook, Patton Oswalt, Paul F. Tompkins, Jerry Seinfeld.

Illmatic 04-23-2005 06:44 PM

I'm not too fond of Mitch Hedberg either, to be honest. He has some funny one-liners, but everybody who tells that many jokes is bound to tell some funny ones.

Favorite comedians: Bill Hicks, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Chris Rock, David Cross

Jom 04-23-2005 06:49 PM

Mitch Hedberg (RIP), Lewis Black, Brian Regan, Carlos Mencia, Dane Cook (when he isn't doing the maniacal screaming all over the place), George Carlin, Jerry Seinfeld, Tony Woods, and Chris Rock are some of my favorite stand-up comedians. I'll listen to any routine (because it doesn't really take much for me to laugh), but I would rather listen to content than volume when it comes to stand-up. The obvious exception is Lewis Black: his material is hysterical, but his delivery sort of intensifies the laughter.

"Candy corn. Corn that tastes like candy. And so, like an Alzheimer's patient... SON OF A BITCH !"

EDIT: that was in no order, by the way.

Your first four are, I think, my first four, as far as stand-up comedy goes at least.

Jasper Carrott is, I think, very underrated as a stand-up. He doesn't do much political stuff, but then neither did Pryor, and he was fantastic. He's not very well known outside of England (and he's very peculiarly British in attraction, I think, helped by his Brummie accent), but even within the UK he's underrated. Possibly because he goes for a kind of anecdotal, matey comedy, rather than anything especially high-brow. It's a shame, really.

Oh my god, I forgot about Lewis Black.

I saw him last May on the "Rules of Enragement Tour". The man is a comedy genius.

I like Dave Attell and Dave Chappelle a lot too.

Bartender 04-23-2005 07:09 PM

Lewis Black is definitely on one of the high rungs, just below Hicks, Pryor, Bruce and Carlin. The White Album and Rules of Enragement are both great, and he was good in his Comedy Central half-hour thing, despite the lack of time and inability to swear.

I didn't know you liked him though, Illmatic. I thought last time comedy was discussed he was one of the "typical angry comics" that you didn't like Carlin for having become similar to?

Permanent Solution 04-23-2005 07:11 PM

Hey Bart, can you close that Killswitch thread...it's basically someone trolling now and the threadstarter has already been referred to the correct forum :)

Jom 04-23-2005 07:11 PM

Ugh ! I forgot Dave Attell. Jesus.

My friend burned me a whole bunch of Comedy Central stand-ups on a DVD-R. There's like 20+ standups on there. Good times.

When I uploaded Dane Cook's standup for Efilnikufesin (I think it was him) in the old thread, that's where I pulled it off from.

I also forgot the Amazing Jonathan. That guy cracks me right up.

It's a different thing entirely. There's a difference between lukewarm delivery of generic angry material (ie, old Carlin) and over-the-top delivery of angry material (ie, Black)

I love Back In Black, too, even though it's very short and he can't swear. Short, focused bursts of anger = brilliant. The Daily Show is such a great show.

Also, someone from Illinois got drafted! This is exciting news.

Heh. They have a male singer called Drew (who also plays guitar) and a female singer called Kathy (who also plays bass). There's only three people in the whole band.

Random fact - on record, Drew records two guitar tracks and merges them with each other, but the band only recently recruited a second live guitarist to play these extra parts. Before then, he says it was a challenge and a bit of fun to see how much of it he could play on his own :-/

Fair enough, I get what you mean. I just thought that Black was one you didn't care for (by name), but I suppose I was wrong.

Dennis Leary's no cure for cancer is funny. The Blue Collar Comedy tour was funny, but now it's really overdone and getting annoying.

Denis Leary's No Cure For Cancer is funny..but it's a big rip-off of Bill Hicks material.

The best thing to come out of Denis Leary (so far) is Asshole, the song on No Cure (and so Jim Breuer's heavy metal cover of it).

Antihero - some good stuff on that list. Dom Irrera and Ardal O'Hanlon stand out especially.

Jom 04-23-2005 07:31 PM

Larry the Cable Guy ruins that whole shtick. The movie was funny, but the second movie and their own show is just a bit* overkill for me.

*extremely

Ron White is pretty funny.

"They call me Tater Salad... and this is my son... Tater Tot."

Engvall and Foxworthy are funny, even though the latter's "YYYYYYOU might be a redneck..." jokes get a bit tedious.

Larry the Cable Guy is just not that funny, except when the other guys pick on him for being smart.

Foxworthy: "Let me give you an analogy."
LtCG: /stares off into space, not paying attention
Engvall: /taps LtCG "That's where you compare stuff."

So I was in the pop punk community thread, and some kid says "I love Black Metal." Naturally this made me curious so I asked like who and he said CoB and CoF. :(

Jom 04-23-2005 07:38 PM

ATTN: Eleventeen

Nick Swardson, perhaps?

"Nicolas, I'm thirsty."
"Well, grandma, why don't I pour you a glass of milk FROM THIS GALLON !" [thematically lifts gallon over head]

"Nicolas ! You are the strongest boy in the world !"
"Well, grandma, you must be tired, so have a seat ON THIS STOOL !"

My favorite though, is his conclusion, where he talks about video games and music.

"My grandkids are going to run to me talking about the latest video game, and I'll be like, 'What? Back in my day, we played a game with a yellow circle, and it ate dots and was chased by ghosts !'

I can't wait until I'm old. I always say stuff like "This sucks !" and my mom will be all like, 'No, we don't use that language around Grandma. No.'

So this is what I'm going to do. For example:

'Grandpa, grandpa, you wanna go to the zoo with us?!'
'The zoo? Fuck the zoo, the zoo's gay.'
'Mom ! Grandpa called the zoo gay !'
'Shut up, faggot, don't tell on me.'

And I'll put on my Dr. Dre Chronic CD.

'This is what I listened to when I was your age. Your grandmother was a ho.'"

lunch998 04-23-2005 07:41 PM

I saw that the other day. It was hilarious when he did the lifting the carton bit.

Ray, you still want to do a Hip Hop/Rap F.G.?

NEWS FLASH! REALLY GOOD BAND WAS ON HEADBANGER'S BALL FOR A CHANGE!

They played Rage Against the Machine's "Freedom," which was indeed a good song. They also had some good VIDEOS, but not necessarily songs. There was this band called Diecast who had possibly the only truly silly video to go with that kind of music (newer heavy/thrash metal). There was also an American Head Charge video with a UFC fighter getting pissed off, so that's cool too.
